The 165 x 165 Formatt-Hitech Firecrest ND Filter Kit contains 3 Firecrest ND filters, ranging in density from 0.3 to 0.9 to provide a reduction in exposure from 1 to 3 stops. By darkening the entire image, you can photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required for greater control over focus, movement, and brightness.

The design of these filters has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promote nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. These filters provide a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the Schott Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multi-coating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order maintain truer colors and contrast. The multi-coating is also scratch-resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filters. Each filter in this kit measures 6.5 x 6.5" / 165 x 165mm and is 2mm-thick, making it compatible with the Lucroit 165mm Filter Holder.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this filter compatible with the Sigma 8mm f/3.5 EX DG Circular Fisheye lens? In particular, will there be the Vignette effect?

A: I don't know how you plan on attaching it to the lens but if you just hold it in front of the lens, you will get some vignetting that can be adjusted in post. BTW, there is really no other way to use a filter with this lens other than holding it or using the rear gelatin filter holder that takes cut to size gel filters.

Q: 2. How's the vignetting when shooting wide open? Do you have to crop any?

A: I use the the filter ONLY on my Canon 24mm TS-E... and I have not had any issues on any of my images from using this filter. As the old saying goes... you get what you pay for... so, if you're using sub-par glass using an expensive filter, EXPECT sub-par results... no matter the type of filter you use!

Q: 3. Does this filter have front filter threads to stack another filter?

A: yes there is a thread on front to stack more filters

Q: 4. Can you stack the filters. Or dos the color get to strong?

A: It may be possible to stack filters, but it's not recommended--stacking introduces more surfaces that can reflect light and more unwanted color cast possibilities.

Q: 5. Does this filter fit Cokin P holder?

A: Yes, it will fit either the Formatt Hitech or Cokin P Series filter holder.

Q: 6. Do these SuperSlim filters fit in a standard filter tray or do you need a special tray for them?

A: 2mm 4 x 5.65" tray that comes as a part of the Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra Cine Superslim IRND 5 Filter Kit allows you to adapt the filters to any ARRI standard-width 4 x 5.65" matte box tray. The Superslim Tray allows you to use the filters with common matte box brands like Bright Tangerine, ARRI, Chrosziel, and others.

Q: 7. Purchased FirecrestUltra 100x100mm ND 3.0 filter. It came with some self sticking foam gasket in separate bag. There are no instructions how to install the gasket.Question: which side of the filter should the gasket be installed on? One side of the filter has writing on.

A: Put the gasket on the side that does NOT have the writing.

Q: 8. Is this filter suitable for solar imaging?

A: Yes, when shooting in live view, you can use it. I wouldn't use it while looking through the viewfinder if you have a DSLR but live view is ok.

Q: 9. Does this filter come in a case?

A: No it doesnt!I boughta href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/212303-REG/B_W_65024717_E1_Filter_Pouch.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/212303-REG/B_W_65024717_E1_Filter_Pouch.html/aAnd its suitable.Mika from Finland

Q: 10. is this the same as firecrest irnd filter? I have firecrest irnd filter now and is looking for another one.

A: This filter is an IRND filter from the Firecrest Series.
