The white Tavor 5-O 5.25" 2-Way Active On-Wall Speakers (Pair) from Kramer are amplified 2 x 30W RMS surface-mount loudspeakers designed for professional, commercial, or residential applications where sound is needed. The SPK-WA511 is enclosed in an ABS cabinet and can be mounted vertically or horizontally. The mounting brackets are made of hardened steel that attach to each speaker, letting you rotate each speaker to the left or right.

The system accepts a line−level stereo input and amplifies it using a built-in amplifier, and outputs a speaker signal to the passive speaker. The Tavor 5-O speaker system features three available inputs (that can either be connected separately or connected simultaneously to form a mix of the inputs.

Q: 1. Do these speakers need an amp? If so, which would you recommend?

A: By no means am I an audiophile, but I purchased two pair for the decks on my new home. Because we are very rural and streaming costs are so high, I connected the to a Sirius radio, thru a Sonos Connect Amp. They work wonderfully, but I would assume any stereo receiver would suffice.

Q: 2. Are they waterproof or water resistant? Are they all weather outdoor speakers (sun)? Do they need to be covered shade?

A: The Yamaha NS-AW150W is water resistant.

A: No. Wall brackets are included though.

Q: 4. What level sound output do I feed to these speakers? Can the output be from the line-out port on a laptop?

A: A line output signal will not sufficiently drive the Polk Audio RC85i In-Wall Speakers (Pair), BH # PORC85I, to any quality, audible level. Recommended amplifier power for these speakers ranges from 20 to 200 watts RMS at 8 ohms.

Q: 5. Since these speakers come with a preamp, is it ok to connect a turntable that also has a preamp?

Q: 6. What is the depth of the speaker including the mounting bracket? From the front grille to the wall? Is that the 5.5" listed or is it more?

A: They come with a tilting bracket. Can mount to wall w/ standard zinc screw-in drywall anchors. I hung 11 of them in a food court at LAX Airport.

Q: 8. I'm impressed with JBL Control Contractor Series. I'm planning to have a set of speakers to build up a home theater from this series. However, I'm missing the center channel which I don't have any clue how to replace this position from control contractor series. Then, I'm going to the 2nd issue which is the subwoofer it's PASSIVE & it won't work with AV receiver. Control 19CS come in pair subwoofer, I thought may be subwoofer plate amplifier going to solve this issue but I'm sure. It seems that it won't going to work. Does any body have a suitable solution to my concern?

A: For the Center channel I would suggest to use the JBL Arena 55IW In-Wall Speaker. I have implemented a similar approach with my system and it works great. Regarding a subwoofer - I would suggest the JBL Arena Sub 100P 10 Powered Subwoofer also.

A: I bet they will - really like mine - mounted out on my patio - music around the BBQ

Q: 10. Are these speakers switchable between 4 and 8 ohms?

A: Two of the speakers with a stereo amplifier will be 8 ohms. If you add another pair of speakers, they would run at 4 ohms and require twice the power.
