Capture broadcast-quality sound indoors or outside for your next indie film, TV shoot, or documentary project with the black Rode NTG3B moisture-resistant shotgun microphone. Professional-level features such as low-noise circuitry, upgraded immunity to radio-frequency interference, and minimal handling noise reduce the need to repair and restore audio in postproduction.

The NTG3B's high sensitivity allows it to produce strong output levels without having to apply extreme gain at your mic preamp. Sonically, the NTG3B delivers consistently clear sound due in part to its gentle rise in high frequencies and its rumble-reducing attenuation of low bass frequencies. Its switch- and dial-free design lets you set up quickly and focus on the sound instead of fiddling with various mic settings. The solid brass housing is both durable and lightweight, and its anti-glare finish prevents reflections in the shot.

When your work takes you outdoors, you're bound to encounter humidity and condensation, which can cause many mics to fail. The NTG3B's RF bias technology makes it almost completely resistant to moisture, allowing you to reliably capture high-quality audio in normal and adverse environmental conditions. It also includes a weatherproof aluminum storage cylinder for maximum protection during travel.

The NTG3B was engineered for broadcast-quality sound, enhanced immunity to RF (radio frequency) interference, and low handling noise. Plus, its balanced output allows longer cable runs than most camera-mount shotgun microphones.

The combination of the NTG3B's 10" long body and supercardioid polar pattern yields focused on-axis directionality with maximum rejection behind the mic. Its low self-noise of 13 dBA and highly sensitive condenser element communicate detailed audio unburdened by the hiss that plagues many low-cost microphones.

Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output and compliance with 44 to 52 VDC phantom power, the NTG3B is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters, as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.

The NTG3B includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the NTG3B in the Rode SMR-4 shockmount (available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations between your boompole and the mic.

The NTG3B has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the Rode Blimp furry windshield and shockmount suspension system (available separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it compatible with DSLR cameras?

A: Not exactly. The cable attached to the mic is XLR and that is typically run into a separate recorder such as a Zoom H4n or similar. I think you could get an XLR to headphone jack adapter to plug into a DSLR if you can choose the mic input on your camera to accept audio. It's recommended to attach this mic to a separate audio recorder and sync the footage and audio in post. This is a very good mic.

Q: 2. Can the ntg3b plug directly into a Sony a7s2? Or is the ntg4+ the only one with a built in phantom?

A: The NTG-3 requires an external phantom power source and is not directly compatible with the a7s2. The Rode NTG-4+ features a built in rechargeable battery that will allow for direct connection to the camera as well as the Rode NTG-2 which is able to accept a AA battery for power.

Q: 3. Does this come with a hotshoe mount?

A: The Rode NTG-2 will ship with a stand mount only. There are many shoe mounts available. The Auray DUSM1 is a compatible mount, and offers excellent shock protection. a href= http://bhpho.to/1gXv7Tw target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1gXv7Tw/a

Q: 4. Where is the XLR cable?

A: XLR cables are a required but not included accessory for this microphone. We list several cabling options under the ACCESSORIES tab for this microphone.

Q: 5. How long does a single AA battery last in the mic?

A: While there isn't a published run time for AA, as they vary too much and also depend on the chemistry of the battery, on average you can expect around 50 hours (+/-)

Q: 6. is the cable inside of the boompole?

A: Yes it is

Q: 7. Does the NTG-2 have a db pad? Like a -10db switch?

A: No, the RODE NTG2 Shotgun Microphone does not have a -10 dB pad, but it does have a switchable high-pass filter set at 80 Hz which can be used to remove low frequency noise that is not part of your intended source.

Q: 8. Can I use this mic for recording birds, rain and other nature sounds?

A: This is a directional condenser microphone. It is sensitive to picking up many different things if you are close enough to the sound source by a few feet.

Q: 9. how do i change the battery in a NTG-2 microphone?

A: The bottom third of the microphone unscrews and the battery can be changed from in there.

Q: 10. Can this be connected to a iPhone 6s Plus?

A: Yes but you will need the SC4 TRS to TRRS adaptor. a href= http://www.rode.com/accessories/sc4 target= _blank http://www.rode.com/accessories/sc4/a

I purchased this microphone with the package. This microphone has outdone itself over and over. I love it.

Fantasic product. High quality, well made, and incredible sound. Better than the 416, and a fraction of the price.

For the price this sounds just as good as the rival MKH416. Use it for commercial ads, corporate videos, etc.. Very happy with my purchase of this microphone.

I ordered this kit, nervous about the quality and researched a great deal. I watched reviews of the NTG3 mic online and the quality was continually talked about as one of the best microphones in the field.I received the package in a week and must say I was happy with everything being so beautifully packaged, clean and protected. The boom pole itself came with two different cords that work for different lengths, as well as two filters for the shotgun mic. The audio from the NTG3 is crisp and professional indoors and outdoors. The only disclaimer I would give anyone thinking of ordering this kit is that it comes with XLR cords therefore, it is impossible to use unless you have a handyrecorder. In order to record your audio with any of the equipment in this kit, you will need something to plug your actual mic into...I would recommend something from the ZOOM series (Zoom H5, H6). Most people spending this kind of money on a mic know this, but just trying to help out anyone who might think this is a simple 'plug into camera' situation. It is next-level and requires extra care and caution when handling. If you're on the fence about this purchase, I would seriously praise the quality of the entire kit.

I love this mic. Works great under any circumstance. I travel a lot and the terrains very in temperature. The hot and cold never gives me an issue with audio. Comes with a handle metal container for your mic, is very handle as a prop. You could use it as a science fiction grenade or something, just make sure not to get the rode logo in frame. I've used other expensive mics before but this one is slightly less expensive and competes with the best. The only downside to this Shotgun Mic is the price, but even that isn't a huge concern since it's $300 cheaper than it's competitor.

I was frankly blown away by the rich tonal quality of this microphone for my production purposes. I've watched a lot of review videos and read some reviews elsewhere and I am impressed by the quality of this microphone that costs less than the industry standard Sennheiser MKH416. I've also listened to tests with the Sennheiser MKH416, but this is a better value for the money. Rode has done a phenomenal job on designing and building this microphone. The cylindrical case that comes with the microphone needs to be better designed though to slide the microphone in and out for easy access and storage.
