Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this work with newer sony cameras with Sony MI? (A7s, A7r, A7rII, etc?)

A: The manufacturer does not recommend using this on the Sony MI shoe. Even though the Sony MI shoe looks similar to a standard shoe, the hot shoe pin of this adapter may very well not line up. It is always recommended to buy devices specifically made for the Sony MIS.

Q: 2. Will the QR accept the Arrca -type plate from the Peak Design system?

A: Its take the Arca-type with 1/4 -20 mounting screw. I am using it with a fuji x-e2 With an arca/swiss handle and it works great. I would recommend this Barska ball head.

Q: 3. Does this come with a 1U rack adapter to fit a standard server box?

A: It's not included, but you can purchase one here: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1492867-REG/ubiquiti_networks_ckg2_rm_g2_cloud_key_rack.html

Q: 4. This unit runs on a battery. My question is, if the battery fails in the middle of a shoot, will it make it impossible to fire the flash from an older power pack? Or will it still fire with potential damage to the camera?

A: According to Vello, they state that if the battery dies, the HSA-PVU Hot Shoe Adapter would still provide voltage protection for your camera. However, the PC sync terminal may lose the ability to trigger the flash or power pack connected to the adapter, depending on the voltage needed to trigger the unit. So the short answer is if the battery dies, your camera remains protected, but the flash connected to the adapter may not fire.

Q: 5. What is the accuracy of the range finder?

A: The accuracy of the Barska 8x30 WP Battalion Binocular range finder has not been published by the manufacturer.

Q: 6. I am going to use this hot shoe adapter to connect the Samsung NX10 and Godox AD100 Pro with a PC Sync cable. Will it work?

A: While it is possible to use the Vello HSA-PVU Hot Shoe Adapter with Safe Voltage Conversion to connect a Samsung NX10 and a Godox AD100 Pro using a sync cable, it has not been tested to our knowledge. Your results may vary.

Q: 7. Does the compass show mils or degrees?

A: The embedded compass for the Barska 8x30 WP Battalion Binoculars with Internal Rangefinder (BH # BA8X30BWPB) is demarcated in degrees.

Q: 8. Honestly, I know nothing about this stuff...if I bought this could I (to save money) basically pin it to my wall & just crop out the edges? I have started to create videos for youtube and for webinars and need a more professional looking background than my wall.

A: I have thought about doing the same thing because I shoot everything in one location. It would keep the backdrop perfectly straight if you hung it well. I would try it temporarily to make sure the color of the wall does not effect the shading of the cloth (color bleed through). If it does your software may have a more difficult time removing the green completely. The lighting could also cause a distortion if too much was to pass through the fabric. All that being said, I think every situation could be different. Just have to try it and see.

Q: 9. Does anyone know if the mounting plate has a D ring?

A: Unfortunately, this information is not provided by the manufacturer.

Q: 10. I have a Vivitar 283 strobe, which I realize can be fired on my Nikon D700 using this Hot shoe adapter. Can my TTL quenching work with this system in the same way it does with Nikon strobes?

A: No, the 283 should be shot in manual, E-TTL will not work with this strobe.
