The Master 40 Fluid Head with Wedge Plate and Pan Handle from Cartoni is a fluid head designed with a large payload range for broadcast or cinema camera rigs weighing up to 115 lb. Featuring a flat base, the head easily mounts on a set legs or a pedestal with a flat or Mitchell mount. The V-shaped wedge plate easily handles heavy loads, and the fluid head's camera platform slides for balancing your camera on the head.

Continuously adjustable counterbalance can be monitored via a digital readout, so you can precisely tune the head's response to your camera. Pan and tilt drag are both individually and continuously adjustable. The head pans a full 360° and tilts forward and back 90°. The built-in illuminated bubble level confirms that your fluid head is level and features a replaceable battery. The head includes one pan handle that can be used for right- or left-hand use, or a second pan handle can be purchased separately.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will this fit a Manfrotto 200PL Quick Release Plate with 1/4 -20 Screw and 3/8 Bushing Adapter quick release plate?

A: Sorry, no Manfrotto plate will fit this Magnus video head.

Q: 2. Will the Magnus VPH-20 Video Pan & Tilt Fluid Head fit a Zomei Q555 tripod? Also does this head come with a quick release plate or would I need to order one separate? Thank you.

A: This head will fit on any tripod, either 3/8 or 1/4 screw. This depends on whether you can get the tripod head off. We do not carry that tripod but the opinion is you can remove the ballhead and then you can put the Magnus in place.

Q: 3. If I have an Impact LS-6B tripod, can i mount this head onto it?

A: The head has a 3/8-16 threaded female mount with a 1/4-20 bushing adapter allowing it to mount on most tripods or other supports. If your tripod had one of those screw-on mounts it should be no problem.

Q: 4. Is this head aluminum or plastic?

A: This item would be made of plastic

Q: 5. Will this head fit a Manfrotto 290 Monopod?

A: Yes. The following system will mount and attach to the Manfrotto 290 system.

Q: 6. What is the fluid base ? From the picture of this product listed without this (B&H # CAK102), it just looks like a tripod. Does anyone know what this is? Thanks!

A: According to Cartoni, the K102 version does not have fluid drag tension in the pan and tilt while K103 does have that valuable feature.

Q: 7. I need to film a fairly close up headshot of someone while they're standing. They're 5'10". Is this system tall enough or should I invest in the Stabilo?

A: The Cartoni Focus 8 has a 63.5" maximum height. If they are sitting, this tripod will do just fine. Otherwise, I recommend raising the height by using apple boxes.

Q: 8. First pic does not show a tripod. Does it come with the one shown in the second pic?

A: The tripod needs to be ordered separately. The tripod shown is an H601 Heavy duty 100mm bowl tripod with P733 ground spreader.

Q: 9. I'm planning on purchasing a Magnus VT-4000 and want anout head for a slider. Does the quick release plate fit the same on this head so that I can change the camera quickly?

A: Yes. It is very easy to change the camera

Q: 10. Will this fit on the Manfrotto 385 post?

A: Yes, the Magnus VPH-10 has a 3/8" mounting thread and can attach to the 3/8" screw on the Manfrotto 385 post.

Haven't found any issues so far but I am starting to wish I went with a ball head due to it would have been more compact for hiking.

What more can I say, this Pan/Tilt head is just simply Awesome! This is my first professional quality Pan/Tilt head and I have to say I'm completely pleased. I made a trip out to the local state park were hugh flocks of Canadian snow geese gather for wintering. After missing my first oppurtunity to photograph the flock since they flew away as I entered the parking area. I setup and watched for their return. After freezing my tail off in 10 degree F temperature for more than an hour I returned back to my truck with my gear all packed up just in time to see the flock return! I snapped into action and setup my tripod and grabbed my camera, the quick release base which mounts directly to the base of the camera snaps right onto the top of the Pan/Tilt head with a spring loaded quick release lever in one swift motion. In less than a minute I had my Nikon D90 with my Nikon VR 70-300mm zoom lense setup and snapping photos as the flock made serveral passes and setup on final to land in the water! The Pan/Tilt head handles the weight of my Nikon D90 with my Nikon VR 70-300mm zoom lense with ease. In fact I adjusted the vertical and horizontal knobs so they would allow me to adjust the camera setup as the flock made their approach and it worked perfectly!

What impresses me about the Pan/Tilt Head is its sturdiness, and smoothness, easy to use and like a well greased machine. Stalwart.

I use this head mostly during airshows with my long lenses (+300mm) when I need quick panning capability. Typical Manfrotto build quality is excellent, and provides a sturdy platform for my Sigma 50-500 superzoom--which is truly a heavy lens. One day, though, Manfrotto will have the vision to make a hybrid head; one that adds the micro adjustment qualities of their 410 mini-gearhead into the 808RC4. I already do this by simply mounting a 410 on top of the 808. It's a heavy setup, but it really does the job of swiftly spotting and acquiring far off, fast moving subjects like aircraft.

I paired this head with the 055MF3 by Manfrotto. My main passion is landscape photography. While this would lead many people to buy a ball head, I prefer more precise control over the head and the camera. Built in spirit levels coupled with the angle identifier (think of a protractor on the head to tell the angle the camera is at) make shooting a photograph on precise angles much easier.

I use it at home, in the field. This thing is built for a life time of service. It is as smooth as silk!

... I sent it back and got this 3 way pan tilt head with the 190X legs. It was less than twice as much, and is ten times the quality. I'm very impressed by Bogen products. I have a monopod and table top tripod as well and they're both awesome. I actually kept finding things as I set up the tripod that I didn't even think about that were nice user frlendly things Bogen had included - they must really think of the user when they design their products.
