Blending notable imaging qualities with refined handling, the PowerShot G7 X Mark II Digital Camera from Canon is a compact point-and-shoot characterized by its large feature-set. Utilizing a 20.1MP 1" CMOS sensor and DIGIC 7 image processor, this camera offers a maximum ISO 12800 in Program mode, and achieves smooth image quality with reduced noise when working in low-light conditions. Delivering notable image quality in a variety of situations, a 20.1MP 1" CMOS sensor and DIGIC 7 image processor combine to create the Canon HS SYSTEM, which avails clean, clear imagery with minimal noise and a wide dynamic range, with a top expanded sensitivity to ISO 12800. The sensor and processor also avail the ability to shoot raw or JPEG files at up to 8 fps or record Full HD 1080p60 video in the MP4 format with stereo sound.

In addition to benefitting image quality, the DIGIC 7 processor also enhances focusing speeds and tracking capabilities for maintaining sharp focus on moving subjects, even in low light and low contrast situations. Additionally, the processor also enables Dual Sensing IS that interprets data from imagery in order to intelligently reduce blur caused by camera shake.

A built-in 4.2x optical zoom lens provides a versatile 24-100mm equivalent focal length range, and features a bright f/1.8-f/2.8 maximum aperture range to benefit working in difficult lighting conditions throughout the zoom range. This fast maximum aperture also teams up with a nine-blade diaphragm to produce a smooth bokeh quality when using selective focus techniques. Additionally, a Super Spectra Coating has been applied to individual lens elements to noticeably reduce lens flare and ghosting when shooting in strong lighting conditions.

An Intelligent IS image stabilization system is also incorporated into the lens design to minimize the appearance of camera shake for a variety of shooting scenarios:

  • Normal IS: Corrects for a wide variety of camera movement types when shooting stills.

  • Panning IS: Intended for use when making tracking shots, this setting ensures that IS will not interfere with desired lateral camera movements.

  • Macro (Hybrid) IS: Used for both stills and video recording, this setting corrects for shift-type camera shake that is common when photographing close-up subjects. It also compensates for motion blur associated with recording video while walking.

  • Tripod: Image stabilization is deactivated when shooting stills atop a tripod.

  • Dynamic IS: This setting is effective when recording video using wider focal lengths and simultaneously walking or moving.

  • Powered IS: Ideally suited for shooting video with telephoto focal lengths, this mode compensates for the camera movements that become more apparent with greater zoom magnifications.

  • Active Tripod IS: Unlike the stills tripod mode, this video-specific tripod mode compensates for slight amounts of shake that can be caused when recording movies from a tripod.

  • A sleek, compact profile incorporates a large 3.0" 1.04m-dot touchscreen LCD that features a 180° upward, 45° downward tilting design to support taking selfies or working from low shooting angles.

  • A manual control ring surrounds the lens for intuitive control over select camera and exposure settings. The ring can also be set to have clicked intervals, for tactile recognition of settings changes, or can be de-clicked for smooth, quiet transitions between adjustments.

  • Built-in Wi-Fi with NFC allows you to wirelessly share your photos and movies with a linked smartphone or tablet as well as remotely control the camera from the mobile device by using the Camera Connect app.

  • Picture Style affords in-camera control over the color, contrast, and sharpness of imagery.

  • In-camera raw file conversions let you preview and apply adjustments to files without needing to process the files on a computer.

  • A Time-Lapse Movie function automatically compiles sequentially-recorded images taken at predetermined intervals and composites them into a seamless movie file for smooth playback.

  • A dedicated Panning function can lock onto an intended subject and, using image stabilization, automatically adjust the shutter speed to render a sharp moving subject set against a blurred background.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I need help building a underwater rig for a Canon Powershot G7 X Mark II. My question is what housings work with a Sea and Sea Grip Stay L and 2x YS-D2s? What cables do you need?

A: Please email us at uw@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a for assistance with your inquiry.

Q: 2. I would like to know the minimum focusing distance in Macro mode at 100mm focal length. Is it 5cm or or 50 cm?

A: The Canon G7X in macro on 100mm would be able to focus as close as 1.64' (50 cm).

Q: 3. Hi, I just got this camera and am learning it, but it seems as soon as I turn it on, I'm hearing little clicking noises, like the camera is trying to constantly find focus, even when the shutter is not depressed. Happens in all modes. Do I have something wrong in my settings, or a camera issue to address? Thanks in advance.

A: Hey there. Not really. Mine doesn't do that. Did you try to contact somebody from canon or B&H. It sounds weird to me...

Q: 4. When the G7X MKII reaches the 1080P 60FPS file size limit, which is well before the 30 minute time limit, does it create a new file automatically / seamlessly and continue to record until 30 minutes or does the recording simply end when the 4GB SD card file size limit is reached?

A: The camera would stop recording and you will need to restart recording manually.

Q: 5. Does the camera come with a battery charger? How does the battery charge?

A: Yes, the camera comes with a battery charger. The charger has flip-out prongs on the bottom that plug into your wall outlet.

Q: 6. Hi! How much is to send the camera to Brazil? Thanks!!

A: B&H does ship internationally, and can ship the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II Digital Camera to Brazil. Shipping costs would depend on the shipping method you chose. If you add the item to your cart and then continue to checkout, once you had entered in your shipping information, you would be able to find a list of all of the available shipping options to your location, along with their respective costs and delivery times. For specific questions about shipping to Brazil, I would suggest contacting us directly through email.vendas@bhphoto.com

Q: 7. Received a powershot G7X Mark II as a gift. Desiderate to use it 3 weeks later but the monitor remains blacked out. Nothing in the manual to address this, beeps when I touch the monitor. Anyone have a solution?

A: For this inquiry, please e-mail our Customer Service Department directly along with the order number so we can better assist. Their e-mail address is cs@bandh.com. Thank you.

Q: 8. How is the viewing on LCD screen in sunlight?

A: It is decent. The TFT LCD design allows the LCD screen to be bright and have high contrast, and the glass used is designed to reduce glare. However, if the LCD screen is in direct sunlight (such as if the sun is directly behind you), it may reduce the brightness. However, as the LCD screen is a multi-angle screen, it is easy to re-position the LCD screen to a slightly different angle for easier viewing in this condition.

Q: 9. I need a completely silent shutter. Can this shoot completely silently like the RX100's Silent Electronic Shutter or is there always some sort of click? Is it soft enough that someone sitting next to me in a theater wouldn't hear it when continuous shooting?

A: You can turn off sounds while holding the down arrow on the dial. You can also do this by going to the menu and choosing the Mute option on the third settings tab.

Q: 10. What is the average battery life for flash photos and non-flash photos?

A: It is approximately 2-3 hours of continuous shooting.

Camera is as great as others' comments. Have not encountered any serious technical or creative issues. In-camera resizing is a minor concern: S1 (2736x1824); S2 (2400x1600); M (3648x2432). These image sizes are not email attachment friendly. Was expecting something like Powershot S90s resizing options: M3 (1600x1200); S (640x480); XS (320x240). Thankfully, photo editing software is available for resizing, for example, Photoshop's Image Sizing for custom resizing, & Photomatix Essentials 4.1 (64-bit) resizing presets (4). Getting Started booklet, and to some extent, downloadable electronic manual, does not cross-reference Part Names in Index. Stumbled across camera part 13 (Step/Continuous selection lever) explanation in booklet, page 45. Have yet to find any reference to it in electronic manual. Not a big deal.

I was looking for a good point & shoot to carry with me all the time, something better than the regular point & shoots, (my Nikon DSLR & lenses were too much baggage sometimes). After a few months of research I decided on the G7 mark II. It gives me great sharp photos quickly on auto or I can go fully manual and plan the shot. The LCD is bright and I have no problem seeing it outdoors. The tilting screen is convenient. I was impressed with it's low noise in low light situations. Also, the built in time lapse function is fun. Probably a little big to stick in your pocket so I have a small case attached to my belt - works for me. Looking forward to using it as a travel camera.

It's the go everywhere camera that I always have with me when I'm not carrying my 1DXII. Love that it operates in a similar fashion to the EOS cameras with similar controls and menus. The Face detection AF and touch screen are incredible!! Excellent lens quality, bright aperture and longer zoom (than the SONY RX models). My only complaint is that the AF confirmation sound can not be turned off without muting all sounds (so you have to hear that AF confirmation if you want to hear the shutter sound). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Taking pictures for personal leisure, hence, there are situations I took picture in Low Light, Full Light environments. I personally dislike the use of Flash, this camera with 1.8 - 2.8 fast lens work very well for these environment. The LCD panel is solidly built, so is the camera body, focusing is fast, pictures are extremely sharp. I migrate from Canon G12 , the learning curve is smooth, just have to accommodate learning to use the new features. The touch screen features add a lot of fun in setting up the camera. I have this camera for almost 2 weeks now. All in all, extremely good camera. Nevertheless, the battery capacity is so so, I plan to buy a spare battery, for I know I will need it in a trip. Also, I wish Canon provides interface cable, just like in the other Canon cameras. (extre $16)
