A: For most devices simulated sine wave is adequate. However, if you are backing up a device with an Active PFC (power factor correction) supply they require pure sine wave to operate correctly. Active PFC supplies are considerably more efficient than standard power supplies but need a clean input.

A: I assume you are asking if the UPS software will shut down your MAC if the power fails? You will have to go on line to the units mfg. and read an owners manual. I bought my unit to retain power to my computers if the power failed. When I am doing a video render, I don't want my computer shut down until I am ready. A: Yes, it's just a UPS (nothing to do with OS's), you can use it with or without management software.

A: The 900 watt rating is how many watts it will deliver when on battery. It's rated at 1500 watts pass-through when on line power. Even though your computer has a 1200 watt power supply, it more than likely never pulls that much. Most modern computers only draw 100-200 watts when idle or doing light tasks like email/web browsing. If you have 2-3 high-end power hungry video cards, are doing rendering or video processing, with a pile of hard drives, you could start getting up to the 900 watt limit. Buy a kill-a-watt and measure for sure. Also note that at 100% utilization on battery (drawing 900 watts) the run time is very short; maybe a minute or two. My workstation has an 850 watt power supply, a single GeForce 960 video card, i7-6700k, 16gb ram, 4 hdds and an ssd. With the router, a switch, and 2 monitors, I draw 350 watts when playing games & working on video encoding. I get approx. 15 minutes runtime. Idle it uses 75-100 watts, and a 30 min run time.
