An evolution of the tested DX telephoto zoom, the AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR from Nikon is a 105-450mm-equivalent lens featuring an updated focusing mechanism along with a compact form factor. One extra-low dispersion element is used in the optical design to greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range in order to maintain image clarity. A Super Integrated Coating has also been applied to minimize reflections and flare for greater contrast. Suiting both photo and video applications, the AF-P designation indicates the use of a pulse stepping motor that offers notably quiet, fast, and precise autofocus performance. Additionally, Vibration Reduction image stabilization compensates for up to four stops of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting.

Telephoto zoom is designed for DX-format Nikon F-mount cameras and provides a 105-450mm equivalent focal length.

One extra-low dispersion element greatly reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color accuracy.

A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.

AF-P pulse motor uses stepping motors to deliver impressively smooth, quiet, and fast autofocus performance that is well-suited to both stills and video applications.

VR (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by four stops to benefit shooting handheld in difficult lighting conditions.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Autofocus and VR switches have been removed from the lens design for a sleek profile; these operations are now accessible in compatible cameras' menu systems.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this compatible with a Nikon D90? I’ve seen a chart elsewhere listing this as compatible, but D90 is not listed in this descirption

A: It is not.

Q: 2. Can anyone give me a link to buy a snap on Lens Hood of decent quality at cheap price for this lens?

A: https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/818332-REG/Sensei_lc_58_58mm_Center_Pinch_Snap_On.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/818332-REG/Sensei_lc_58_58mm_Center_Pinch_Snap_On.html/aDon't know the quality, but it's cheap. Also can find on Amazon.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with a D750? If not is there something comparable?

A: While the Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR Lens can work on the Nikon D750, it is not ideal. The Nikon D750 is a Full Frame FX camera, whereas this is a lens designed for cropped DX sensors. It will mount, but you will not be taking advantage of the larger sensor in the camera. The better option would be the Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR Lens linked here. https://bhpho.to/3eqrnk2

Q: 4. Will this lens work with the D800. When I bought my camera, I was told by B & H photo that this lens is compatible. Is this true?

A: This is a DX lens primarily meant for APS-C cameras such as the D3500, D5600, and D7500.

Q: 5. will this work with a D40?

A: No, this is an "AF-P" lens, so it's not compatible with the D40. (It's also not compatible with the D300, since someone mentioned that one, too). You'll need to look for "AF-S" lenses for your D40. For the D300, you can also use "AF-S" lenses or even "AI" or "AF" lenses (not to be confused with the letters "AF" followed by a hyphen and then another letter). We realize this can be confusing, so please call (866.617.7712 / 212.502.6329), email (photo@bhphoto.com), or chat with us if you are at all unsure.

Q: 6. Will this work with the Nikon D3200??

A: NO, it cant autofocus or manual focus on a D3200. The manual focus ring is not connected directly to the lens, but by electronics, therefor no manual focus. And definitely no Autofocus either.

Q: 7. Can the lens be used on Nikon z7?

A: It can be used when you have the Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter (https://bhpho.to/2PwU1lm) and since it is a DX lens, you'll be losing resolution as it'll crop.

Q: 8. Is this lens, AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300MM F/4.5-6.3 ED VR LENS compatible my Nikon 3000?

A: No, the Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR Lens would not be compatible for use with the Nikon D3000 DSLR camera.

Q: 9. does this include a lens hood? thanks

A: No. This lens struggles in low light and isn't consistent outdoors especially when its cloudy or overcast. You wont need a hood unless you are looking for protection only.

Q: 10. Will this lens work on the D3000?

A: This is the new AF-P version and it does NOT work on the D3000, or the D90 for that matter. The other respondent probably has the AF-S version. You need the AF-S version for the D3000.

Having owned at least 20 lenses over the years, and tested a dozen of these using an ISO 12233 chart as well as distance settings, I have come up with the following review: 1- Very quick focus. Much quicker than the old 70-300 with VR (I own both). 2- Exceedingly sharp throughout the 70-300 range. Edge to edge. Amazing. 3- Very lightweight at 14 ounces. 4- Unbelievably inexpensive for its performance. Cons: No lens shade included. How dumb of Nikon! Lens shade is on back order. 300mm stops at f6.3 . . . and one of the reasons it is so light! This is probably Nikon's best value to price lens made. Sure, it has some plastic components, just don't sling it around like a pro lens. It isn't!

I have used this lens with my NIKON D500; taking pictures of magnolias and the results are excellent. It i is reasonably light-weight and handles well. Lloyd A. LeZotte, M.D., Ph.D. Photographer & Scholar

I have had this lens for a short time. I bought it for use with a D7200 body. But since my 70-200 lens is in for repair, I have been using this dx 70-300 on my D850. Have been getting surprisingly good results. Don't know how durable a plastic lens will be, but for the price it is worth the risk. D850 with this lens makes a much more comfortable carry camera that with the 70-200.

I bought this lens for my Nikon D7500 and I love it. I've gotten some excellent shots of wildlife with it. The zoom is even better in DX format at 450mm max zoom (300mm x 1.5 = 450mm). I highly recommend this lens to use as your standard telephoto zoom lens.

My wife and I make jewelry for sale in our retirement. I have been using a Nikon D5300 for about a year. I was not quite happy with the sharpness of pictures with two kit lenses. After reading reviews of the 70-300 AF-P I decided to buy it. I couldn't be happier I get sharp pictures with correct colors. (The kit lenses also had correct colors.)

I bought the 18-55 AF-P lens as soon as it was available and was so impressed with the improved sharpness and handling over the previous 18-55 versions that I purchased the 70-300 AF-P hoping that the same would be true of this lens and I was not disappointed. The lens is sharper than the previous 55-200 and 55-300 lens that I had. The zoom is smooth, the manual focus works well and while I don't use it a lot I do like not having to move a switch. The mounts are plastic and while I would prefer they were stainless steel it keeps the cost down and I have never had one break even though I have had several plastic mount lens. I am careful with them though and don't pick the camera up by the lens. I find the 18-55 AF-P and this lens along with the D5500 are all I need. I have the D750 with several primes which I love but find myself using the D5500 and these 2 lens more and more when I want a lightweight combination. Both lens are definitely winners.

This is the second AF-P lens I've purchased (both are zoom lenses), and the AF is fast, and accurate. It's on a D7500 body, and the f4.5-6.3 max aperture has worked fine for me since most of my photos are taken outside, where even early morning, and late afternoons have relatively strong Florida Keys sunlight. I've shot the full focal length range of this lens, with both stationary, and moving subjects, and the lens renders good color, and contrast, is quite a bit lighter than the 70-300mm lens I use on my Canon 6D, and its very affordable!
