Supporting up to 12G-SDI data rates, the Teranex Mini IP Video 12G from Blackmagic Design is a 12G-SDI/Ethernet encoder/decoder that supports TICO encoding for high-quaity video over Ethernet transmission. The compact size of the Teranex Mini makes it very useful for portable racks at live events or in broadcast trucks. One unit is required at each end—multiple units can be used on the same network—controlled by a Mac or Windows computer using the included Blackmagic Video Hub software.

The unit supports up to 1080p60 over a Gigabit Ethernet LAN with higher data rates supported by using an optional 10G optical Ethernet connector. The Mini IP Video 12G has a single 12G-SDI input and two 12G-SDI outputs in addition to the Gigabit Ethernet connector and a slot for an optional 10G SFP. An optional Smart Front Panel with a built-in LCD display provides local setup and control and replaces the standard panel with DIP switch setup that comes with the unit. Up to three units can be easily installed in an optional 1 RU 19" rack tray, and it features a built-in 90-240V power supply, and all you'll need is a standard IEC power cable, sold separately.

Requires a minimum of two units—one for encoding the signal and one for decoding the signal.

TICO encoding is a visually lossless compression designed to let you distribute video across an IP network.

The unit supports signals up to 1080p60 over a standard Ethernet connection. For support of signals up to 12-G SDI (4K DCI or 4K UHDF), an optional 10G fiber optic Ethernet LC connector is required.

Blackmagic Videohub Software can be used on Windows or Mac OS computers to turn them into a router server that can manage the connections between multiple units so you can build a large custom sized router on your network.

Supports AC voltage using an optional IEC cable (Blackmagic units do not ship with a power cable) or you can power it via PoE+ with a compatible router.

Setup is done via built-in DIP switches, Blackmagic Teranex setup software, or an optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel with LCD screen.

You can control your Mini 12G-IP via the optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel with LCD screen or Blackmagic Video Hub software.

Embedded audio is supported—there are no separate audio inputs/outputs.

Blackmagic Teranex setup and Video Hub software is included on the SD card that ships with your unit.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this be used to strip audio out of the HDMI to send to a separate mixer?

A: No, the analog audio ports are inputs only for embedding external analog audio.

Q: 2. Can you add a delay to the audio to match/sync to video latency that may be present?

A: There really isn't a need for an audio delay, as the unit has a fairly powerful reclocking option.

Q: 3. Will this take an analog composite signal from let's say a hi8 (576i) and up convert it to 1080 and up?

A: Yes, you can use this converter to upconvert an SD analog composite signal to 1080 HD-SDI.

Q: 4. Does the RJ45 connection support video pass through? If I were to go SDI in and Cat 6 out to a video control that sends to an LED Wall?

A: The ethernet port is for software control only. It does not pass video.

Q: 5. Will it work as a second monitor on a mac?

A: You can connect the extended or mirrored desktop into this converter via HDMI and connect an SDI monitor to the output if you wish.

Q: 6. Does it support 3D luts?

A: Yes

Q: 7. I'm trying to find more information regarding the Teranex Mini Analog to SDI converter and its output format. Specifically, when converting from an SD analog source to HD, what output is it producing at what frame rate? Is the HD output progressive scan or interlaced? How does it handle the de-interlacing of the analog SD source? How does it handle aspect ratio conversion? Does it convert 29.97 fps interlaced material to 59.94 fps progressive scan to maintain proper motion cadence? When capturing from an analog tape, how does it handle signal drop out or control track issues?

A: All conversations will be the same frame rate and scan. There is no rate conversion or deinterlace. Those functions are available in the Teranex AV product. You should use a time base corrector or TBC to stabilize analog tapes prior to conversion.

Q: 8. Will this work better than a software solution for converting video shot at 60i/29.97 fps to 24p (1920 x 1080)?Many thanks..

A: This mini converter does not work that way. It only converts HDMI to SDI. Same resolution and frame rate.

Q: 9. What is the latency of this unit?

A: Teranex Mini SDI to HDMI 12G currently has a one frame delay when Instant Lock is turned OFF but we are looking into doing an update in the future which will result in a few lines of delay only. If the Instant Lock feature is turned ON, the delay could be up to 2 frames.

Q: 10. Can someone recommend a piece of hardware to duplicate xlr audio ? I have two inputs and would like to have 8 outputs to run into these audio injectors since they don't have xlr loop through.

A: You could look at the Behringer DS2800 2-Input/8-Output Distribution Splitter for Commercial Applications, BH #BEDS2800. https://bhpho.to/31kTDhj
