The screw mount Lens Hood from Leica is compatible with the Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH lens. The hood is designed to block stray light from the sun or other light sources and to prevent glare or lens flare.
The black anodized lens hood can also be used to protect the lens from accidental bumps or scratches. In the top left corner is a side window for filter adjustment when using a circular polarizer or variable neutral density filter. The hood can be a spare or a replacement item for what is originally included with the lens.

Q: 1. When using the 28mm lens do you need to use the Leica Universal Wide-Angle Viewfinder for M System. What is this viewfinder typically used for ?
A: The Leica Universal Wide-Angle Viewfinder for M System would not be needed when using this lens on an M series body.

A: This hood is only for the 2 lenses listed. It is a screw on hood and it cannot be modified for the earlier lenses.
Q: 3. Hello!Does the lens hood for the previous ver of this lens (B&H # LE2820MB MFR # 11604) fit this version as well? I ask because this new screw in hood design interferes with the use of a circular poloraizer on this lens. Thank you.
A: The lens hood for the previous version of this lens will not be compatible.
Q: 4. Will this lens use the manual rangefinder focusing or will focusing only be through live view ?
A: You can use this lens with rangefinder as well as live view
Q: 5. Is the lens hood included with the lens?
A: Yes, the Leica Lens Hood for Summicron-M 28mm f/2 (Black) B&H # LEH28F2BAF is included.
Q: 6. Could I thread this on a Leica q2?¿? Or any m hood like this one?
A: No.
Q: 7. I am debating to buy either old or new version of this Leica Summicron 28mm lens. The price is about $1000 difference. Can anyone tell me if it is worth to buy the new version?
A: Excellent question. Here's my take I owned the most recent prior version of this lens (the version you're referring to as heavily discounted). I was always very satisfied with that lens. However, when this newest version was announced earlier this year, I took a flyer and sold that lens, anticipating eventually buying this new version. My motivation was based on Leica's statements that they had redesigned the optics for a flatter image more attuned to digital sensors. I own a first generation M Monochrom and recently wanted to do some landscape and ruins shooting, so I purchased this new version of the 28mm Summicron. I have not been disappointed and in fact I have been even more satisfied with this newest 28mm Summicron than the prior version, which as noted I felt was very good. I know this is much more info than you were looking for but when buying a $4K lens it's important to take lots of factors into consideration. The most important factor I think is will this new lens (or any lens) produce the kinds of images you want to take. I do a lot of landscape shots (and LOTS of trees) and the improvement in edge to edge sharpness from f2.8 on up was worth the expense to me. Even at f2, this lens is great but the difference between the two lenses is not particularly noticeable. By f4, watch out! Hope this helps.
Q: 8. Just confirming, this fits on the Leica 35mm Summicron ASPH?
A: Hi Mike, u need to make sure that ur 35mm summicron ASPH is made after 2016, the new version allow u to remove the metal ring attach to the front of lens, then fit this 12570 hood u thinking to buy. Hope that helps
Q: 9. How do I know that the lens is made in Portugal or Germany ? You are not stating this detail.
A: The Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH. Lens BH #LE282SM • MFR #11672 that B&H sells are made in Germany.
Q: 10. Is this compatible with both 28 Summicron Asoherical lenses? Version 1 and 2?
A: There were two different ways to mount the lens hood for these two lenses. The first version of this lens took a clip-on hood. The second version takes a threaded hood. There’s no modification available for the first lens. This lens hood is threaded and would be for the second version of the 28mm Summicron.
