I bought this recorder for filmmaking and music recording. Before this recorder, I’ve been using H4n for a while, which also provides reliable recordings. I see a huge improvement in functionality on H6 that definitely worths the price difference.
H6’s modular mics and 4 inputs provides much more flexibility.
The user interface is also much more intuitive and efficient. I can conveniently adjust each channels with the physical knobs (instead of having to select and adjust with buttons like on H4n). On H4n, I need to press the REC button to start monitoring and then press once again to start recording; while on H6, monitoring starts when the channel being selected so I only need to press REC once for recording.
The color screen is also a big improvement, although it’s a TN screen with low resolution which doesn’t look very pleasant.
The extra line out is also useful for sometimes when I want to playback, but remember to turn off mic channels before connecting to loudspeakers to avoid severe feedback, even just for playback. That’s because it automatically goes back to live record mode when it finishes the playback.
The self noise of the preamp is improved, but there is still a noticeable amount of noise due to the limit of its size. More advanced user may look into F8n, which has 10dB lower self noise and much more functionalities.
The build of H6 does not feels as metallic as it looks on the images. Actually it feels kind of plastic and cheap, but I guess that’s keeping it lightweight.
The wind shield and strap comes in this set is kind of cheap.

This little recorder packs a lot into a compact design. The sound is really clean and the digital meters are sweet! The mic attachments are a real plus but connecting a boom with an XRL cable is what I really like. And the unit is pretty durable.

Turning the device on, and formatting the card is loads quicker than the H4n! That sold me on this device right when I started using it.
The attachment to the xy microphone is the only one that also has a quarter inch pin for plugging in (not a con or a pro) just took me awhile to find it.

We were replacing an already heavily used H6 when we purchased this. While we looked around to see what else was available before purchasing this unit we quickly realized that nothing offers the features, especially the ability to view audio levels on the unit, quality, and portability for this price.

This little guy is great! I've been using one for about 4 years now and just one to use at my church. The LCD screen showing the levels and menu is awesome and makes this recorder so user friendly. Interchanging between mics is super easy and the level dials are great. I've used this recorder for interviews, documentaries, attaching it to wireless mics for narrative shoots, and it has multiple ways to hook up and record a live mix directly from a sound board! It's great.

A fantastic audio solution for those who need to record multiple audio sources simultaneously. Very easy to use. Physical dials to adjust input levels for each source. A variety of options for file type & bit rate to allow for both high clarity or excessively long recording times, if necessary. Accepts SDXC cards for large projects. Can potentially accept up to 6 XLR inputs when using the optional XLR attachment module. The interchangeable microphone capsules that attach to the recorder offer a variety of different options for different situations, and allow for recording the room sound while simultaneously recording XLR microphone sources. All for a relatively inexpensive price point, in comparison to other 4+ input audio recorder options that can get near/over a grand in price.

I seriously never leave reviews on products but I'm just extremely happy with this purchase. My main purpose was to use it as a portable audio interface since I record live bands and this think did an amazing job this past weekend. It also had a lot to do with the audio engineer mixing everything popular before sending me the signal. It is also very clear when people are speaking from a distance. We did a shout out style video outside the bands tour bus with engine running and it minimize the engine noise and made the voice of the people speaking super clear. When comparing the audio from in camera to the audio on this, this difference was amazing. I really recommend.
