Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the battery life using an L 970 series such as the Sony (6300 mAh), Watson (7800 mAh or 10,050 mAh)? Also, is the titlt adapter removable from the light panel, or is it permanently attached?

A: You will get about 6 hours from the Sony NP-F970 on the Godox LED126 Daylight-Balanced 7.5W On-Camera LED Light. The run time is going to depend on the capacity of the battery. The tilt adapter is removable.

Q: 2. What is the input impedance on these XLR ports? Do they support a Hi-Z mode for guitar pickups? Trying to figure out the easiest way to add a DI for H5/H6

A: John is correct, the XLR/TRS inputs are not Hi-Z inputs for guitars. I recommend running guitars through a direct box and then into the XLR inputs of the Zoom.

Q: 3. When added to the f8n pro does this allow for 10-channel/10-input recording?

A: Yes, when attached to the 10-pin input on the back of the F8n Pro, the Zoom EXH-6 Dual XLR/TRS Combo Input Capsule for H5, H6, and F4 Recorders will take the place of the stereo input and occupy the remaining two tracks available.

Q: 4. So I can have two back up tracks. One for each input?

A: When using the backup recording function included on devices such as the H6, a stereo backup file will be created. The left side of the file will be from input 1 of the EXH-6, the right side of the file will be created by input 2. This stereo file can be split into two separate mono files in post.

Q: 5. Will this module still provide the power to enable lav mics without power to work. In other words if I connect two lavs with xlr jacks will they each provide the voltage that the stereo 3.5mm jack did on the standard xy mic module, Not looking for phantom power, I know they won't do that. Also will this module still retain creating a backup -12db stereo tracks from the LR channels.?

A: This unit does not provide phantom power but you already know that. If you are talking about a wireless lav mic then yes, it will work because the power comes from the receiver, usually powered with batteries, with a XLR output that you plug into the module. Again, the module supplies NO power to the mic receiver and of course a wireless lav mic must also have a powered transmitter in order to provide a signal for the powered receiver. As far as I know the 3.5mm jack is NOT powered. It is simply an input for a stereo mic. Depending on how you configure the recorder (which mode you select) determines how you record each channel (independently vs. stereo) and as such, allows you to record an independent mono track with a 12db variance.

Q: 6. Since this module does not provide phantom power, to the added XLR's, can anyone recommend gear to cover that gap?

A: If you want to connect condenser mics to this input then you would require a phantom power supply for those mics like the Rolls PB223 for example. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/155423-REG/Rolls_PB223_PB223_Dual_48V_Phantom.html

Q: 7. Would this be good to use for recording an acoustic concert in a smallish venue? Can I hit record and put it on the floor in front of my seat and get a decent recording?

A: The Zoom H1N is good to use for recording an acoustic concert in a smallish venue, but I think you would get a much better recording by not placing it on the floor. If you could get it higher up and pointed towards the speakers, or toward the instruments in an acoustic scenario, that would get you a much better recording.

Q: 8. When connected to the H5, will the L/R backup track feature still be available?

A: The backup recording feature is available when recording the L/R inputs with any of the available modules.

Q: 9. Please clarify. Does this mean it only connects phones? Can it connect to other types of cameras that have wifi capability?

A: No, At this time the Roland AeroCaster Livestreaming System will only support phones/tablets as cameras. Here is more info from Roland - Connect your iPad to an HDMI input and switch wireless camera feeds from iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, as well as screen shares from computers and mobile devices. Use images from up to four wireless devices simultaneously, plus the camera on the host iPad.

Q: 10. How do you turn off the plug-in microphone power when the TRS input is connected to a stereo line source?

A: The Zoom H1N input automatically detects line level signal coming it so that it does not interfere with mic plugin power.
