The Sennheiser SKM 500 G4 is a handheld wireless microphone transmitter compatible with the EM 300-500 G4 wireless receiver. It features an interchangeable microphone capsule design and is offered without a capsule included, so you can choose the one that best fits your application. The transmitter operates on a wide 50 MHz UHF tuning range with 2000 selectable frequencies available. It provides up to 8 hours of operation on two AA batteries, with a transmission range up to 330 feet and a selectable 10/30/50mW RF power output for overcoming interference in difficult RF environments.

The rugged, all-metal SKM 500 G4 offers an adjustable gain which allows you to set the optimal level for your voice, and the controls can be locked out to prevent accidental changes. When the Sync function on the receiver is engaged, the transmitter and receiver quickly link to the same frequency via infrared. A backlit LCD displays essential information and provides fast menu access.

The unit can be powered via two AA batteries or a rechargeable BA 2015 Accupack battery (available separately). With the LA 2 charging adapter and the L 2015 quick-charging unit (both available separately), the Accupack can be recharged without removing it from the transmitter.

The transmitter's interchangeable capsule design allows you to use a variety of optional dynamic and condenser mic capsules, with pickup patterns ranging from wide omnidirectional to narrow supercardioid—capsules include the MMD 835, MMD 845, MME 865, MMD 935, MMD 945, and MMD 42.

In addition to the EW 300/500 receiver, the SKM 500 G4 is backward compatible with all previous evolution systems. You can mix and match G4/G3/G2/G1 receivers or bodypack, handheld, and plug-on transmitters. It is also compatible with EW 100 systems.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this make interference if I have the Sennheiser ew IEM G4 Wireless Monitor System (A1: 470 to 516 MHz) next to me?

A: No, the Sennheiser EW 500 BOOM G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Plug-On Microphone System will not interfere with the Sennheiser ew IEM G4 Wireless Monitor System (A1: 470 to 516 MHz). Each system's transmitter and receiver will pair to a different frequency to use for transmitting audio, so even though the bands overlap, there should be no problems with interference between the two systems.

Q: 2. How do I choose between the AW+ and GW1 models?

A: If you are using this in USA, and you are only using a few wireless systems on set, either of the frequency ranges which we carry of the Sennheiser EW 500 G4 wireless microphone systems will work reliably for you. If you are using many systems on one location, you will get best results by dividing between the available ranges. If you need something that can work internationally, please contact us so we can help you find the best option.

Q: 3. Does this work with the ew 100 g3 body pack?

A: Yes, the EM 300-500 G4 receiver is compatible with G3 series transmitters.

Q: 4. Does this have phantom power!

A: Yes, the SKP500 transmitter included in this kit can supply 48 volts phantom power, to mics that require it.

Q: 5. What does this mean: "Note: While this system includes two transmitters, only one can be used at a time". So I can't use both mics on separate receivers? Would like to plug into my zoom h6 and have both mics on separate channels. This sounds like I can only use 1 mic and 1 receiver at a time from the description. Is that correct?

A: The Sennheiser EW 500 G4 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System Kit includes two separate wireless mic systems that can be used simultaneously. The first system is the Sennheiser EW 500 FILM G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System includes two transmitters - the SK 500 G4 Wireless Bodypack Transmitter and the SKP 500 G4 Wireless Plug-On Transmitter. This system gives you the option of using either the bodypack transmitter and lavalier mic or the plug-on transmitter with a handheld or shotgun style mic. The note you saw refers to the transmitters included with the EW 500 since only one transmitter can be used at a time with the system's EK 500 G4 Wireless Receiver. The second system included in the kit is the Sennheiser EW 512P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System which has a single SK 500 G4 Bodypack Transmitter and lavalier mic along with the EK 500 G4 Receiver. The Kopul CMCS-1 Passive 3.5mm Microphone Combiner/Splitter is included in the kit to join the two receivers so that the audio from both receivers can be combined into a single signal when using a device with a single mic input like a DSLR camera. When using a device like the Zoom H6 Handy Recorder, you can connect each of the receivers to separate input channels.

Q: 6. I just bought this unit. Works great till I plug in headphones then unit gets hot, batteries die, then it turns off. I wait for a minute, don't plug in headphones, all is good. Same batteries. Has anyone seen this before? I have 4 other G4s that are great.

A: Although we have not heard of this issue with the Sennheiser EW 500 BOOM G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Plug-On Microphone System with No Mic before, I would speculate that perhaps the headphones connected require more signal strength than the receiver can provide, or perhaps there is an impedance mismatch. I would recommend trying another pair of headphones to see if the issue persists. If it does, we may need to consult Sennheiser for further clarification on this scenario.

Q: 7. Can I use this device with xsw2?

A: This is a UHF transmitter, but it is not meant to be used with the XSW series of wireless microphones.

Q: 8. Will theSennheiser SKP 500 G4 transmitter work with my sennheiser EK 100 G3 reciever?

A: Yes. You can use an SKP 500 G4 Plugon transmitter with an EK100 G3 receiver together, as long as their frequency ranges overlap.

Q: 9. With the "2x MKE 2 Omni Lav & Plug-On Combo", will I need a third receiver to run both lavs and the plug-on at the same time?

A: The EK500 G4 receiver in each set included in the Sennheiser EW 500 G4 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System Kit is a single channel receiver capable of receiving wireless signal from either the body pack or plug-on transmitter. To utilize the lavaliers at the same time as the plug-on transmitter, extra receivers would indeed need to be implemented. Here is the link to the spare EK 500 G4 Pro Wireless Camera-Mount Receiver on its own for adding onto this kit: https://bhpho.to/3OBTkWc. Be sure to order a spare receiver on the same frequency range chosen for the combo kit.

Q: 10. Greetings, I would like to know if the SKP 100 G4 is compatible with an older G3 transmitter in G band. I wish to send the audio output from a Sound Devices MM-1 preamp connected to a Sennheiser ME-66 mic (line output level). Will this work fine without an attenuator? Thank you.

A: Yes the Sennheiser SKP 100 G4 in G-band will work with a Sennheiser ME66 and G3 receiver in G-band.
