The Mackie HM-400 is a rack-mountable, 4-channel headphone amplifier designed to provide versatile headphone amplification for artists, musicians, and engineers monitoring through headphones in live stage applications and home, project, commercial, and mobile-recording studios. It features a stereo main output via XLR and 1/4" jacks and twelve 1/4" TRS stereo headphone outputs—three per channel—fed by a customizable blend of inputs.

One stereo main input via XLR and 1/4" jacks can be mixed with a per-channel 1/4" stereo aux input. Each channel offers 2-band EQ for quick tone shaping, stereo balance or main/aux input mix control, and output level adjustments. Also on each channel are switches for muting left and/or right signals and operating in stereo or mono. 7-segment LED meters display main input and per-channel output levels.

The HM-400 ships with an IEC power cable and occupies 1 RU in a standard 19" rack.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what are the inside dimensions of this bag? thanks!

A: Mackie does not provide specific internal dimensions for the Mackie Bag for 802-VLZ3 Mixer, however we can make a good estimate based on the size of the mixer it is designed for. The Mackie 802-VLZ3 Compact Mixer measures 10.7 x 8.9 x 1.8", and the interior dimensions of this bag should only be slightly larger.

Q: 2. Clarifying question: are left and right outs related in any way to stereo vs mono? Do both left and right out play the full sound output?

A: The signals from the left and right main outputs of the Mackie ProFX10v3 10-Channel Sound Reinforcement Mixer with Built-In FX are influenced by the "Pan" selection of each channel. The pan knob determines which side of the mix each channel's signal is sent to. For instance, channel 1 could be panned hard left, and channel 2 hard right, and channel 1 would only come out of the left main output while channel 2 only came out of the right main output. Panning can be done definitively to either side or anywhere in between, and the main outs will accurately interpret these selections in their output signal.

Q: 3. Any flag recommendations that work with this mic?

A: It comes with a acrylic plate and a mounting bracket that you can add your company's logo to. But if you want a standard three sided or four sided mic flag, any of the great ones B&H sells will work fine. I have used it with Rycote Triangle Mic Flag myself: RYMF1938TRI.

Q: 4. what causes recording on USB to glitch?

A: Glitches while recording to USB might be caused by problems with the USB drive. It may need to be formatted properly before recording. Inconsistent voltage can also cause glitches. Problems with the player or recording device can also cause glitches. Please contact us by phone or through live chat on the website if you would like help to troubleshoot.

Q: 5. Built-in effects?

A: No

Q: 6. Could matrix mixes be added to this via software update in the future?

A: The Mackie DL16S is a live mixer not a matrix mixer. So it is very unlikely that you will be able to add matrix mixes via the software.

Q: 7. wont stop ticking noise while recording, what can i do? steve

A: Unfortunately it would be difficult to tell what the issue is with the recorder if any. You may wish to contact a Rep here by phone at 800-606-6969 for assistance. You may also contact the manufacturer directly for technical support.

Q: 8. Bought the device recently. Playback is OK, but you can not select directories on USB drive. However, when wanted to make a record, could not do it because unable to select proper input as if input button on remote does not work. Can someone help me?

A: If you plug this from the REC OUT of your receiver to the REC IN of the recorder, you must use the receiver to select the playback source to be recorded. Additionally, it is not clear how to actually start the recording, because hitting the REC button once does not start the recording. You must press it twice rapidly.

Q: 9. is it compitable with mac?

A: The mixer will connect to most computers with the proper analog cable connections. There is no direct communication with the computers OS that will require compatibility.

Q: 10. Is the gain from this mixer sufficient for use with vintage ribbon microphones, such as the RCA77Dx? Thanks.

A: Tough to tell. I use a Heil PR 40 and do have to crank up the gain a bit. Great mixer and clean sound. Its worth giving it a try.
