Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this lens fit a Canon EOS 7D?

A: No, it wouldn't. This lens is made with a micro-four thirds mount.

Q: 2. Would this lens fit on a Fujifilm X-T3 body?

A: It would not. This is an MFT mount lens and the X-T3 uses a different X mount.

Q: 3. What are the mounting options for this lens? Is there a foot support? It is very heavy at over 3 pounds.

A: On the bottom of the lens is a 1/4 thread for lens support. You can use a 15mm LWS such as the Zacuto Recoil or Wooden Camera Quick Cage for DSLR. Then on the rods your could use this support. Zacuto 1/4 20 Lens Support B&H # ZAZ14LS1. In a pinch however you can handhold it. In this situation, the camera mounts to the lens so if you hold the lens, no particular strain on the lens mount.

Q: 4. This compatible with the Sony PMW-F3?

A: No, the SLR Magic Cine 35mm T1.4 Mark II Lens with Sony E-Mount is not compatible with the FZ mount on the Sony PMW-F3 Super 35mm XDCAM EX Full-HD Compact Camcorder.

Q: 5. will this work on a sony a7s ?

A: I bought mine for a micro 4/3 camera - the Lumix GH3, This particular mount is not compatible with the Sony system.

Q: 6. Should my focus ring be more accurate? When my focus ring is set to 7' focus is actually at 5'. When I set to 4' focus is 2' 8 . I do tend to measure my manual focus lenses and this is my first I feel I can't trust. I do feel infinity focus seems a bit soft, is it possible I'm not able to get infinity focus if the actual focus distance is shorter then marked? Wondering if I should return... anyone else test the focus ring accuracy?

A: In my decades of being a motion picture camera assistant, this was a situation the we had to look our for. The problem is either the lens is out of collimation or the lens mount flange depth is off. If both are correct, Infinity is Infinity and 5' is 5'. I would suggest that it is the lens and that you should exchange it if you bought it from B&H less than 30 days ago.Contact B&H Customer service to do so. B&H Customer Service Contact: https://bhpho.to/2caRE5L. If the lens comes back and you still have an issue or you purchased longer than 30 days ago, take or send the lens and the camera to a camera service center.

Q: 7. Since the crop factor has changed for 4k recording on GH5 cameras, now covering all of the frame how does this lens perform ?

A: From the beginning the SLR Magic 35mm T2.4 2x Anamorphot-CINE Lens (MFT Mount) has covered the the full MFT sensor so no problem there. Now with the GH5, instead of a 2.3 crop you will get the normal MFT 2x crop (from a Full Frame sensor). The image will have a slightly wider Field of View (FOV).

Q: 8. I have been trolling for differences between Version 1 and Version 2 (shown here) of this lens. Anyone? Cheers.

A: I can say that usually the difference between version 1, 2, 3 etc, etc with any manufacturer is some sort of improvement and 99 times out of a 100, it is the way you will want to go. My take away from the SLR website is that the mark II version has improved focusing and a more robust front section.

Q: 9. wanna get this on a red scarlet-w ef mount I'm about to order, any PL to EF mount solutions?

A: Unfortunately, there are no PL/EF or EF/PL adapters. However, as a RED Scarlet-W owner, your are in luck. You can get the DSMC TI PL MOUNT from RED. This will change the mount from EF to PL on your camera. While it is possible to do this procedure in the field, I doubt you will want to do this on a regular basis. You most likely will wind up staying with one mount for the duration of any particular job.

Q: 10. Can this lens be adapted to work on MFT bodies like the Panasonic GH5?

A: This lens cannot be adapter to work on an MFT camera. However SLR Magic makes a 25mm lens you could use instead. https://bhpho.to/3nOxHmZ

This is my first-ever ownership of a no-frills, fully manual lens. From someone who has always relied on the built-in autofocus power of other lenses, this one keeps me engaged in what I wanted to achieve and how to get it.

This lens is brutally honest. Miss a hair getting that sharp focus and there it is. So based on my current experience, this is not the lens to use if the scene is rapidly changing and/or moving and there's only a short window to take the shot.

However, if the shot was spot-on, you can't help but to be amazed as to how a dirt cheap lens could produce such high-quality photos.

Since the aperture setting is right on the lens itself, what I noticed was that all my photos have an F00 in their EXIF data. Shutter speed ISO and other data are there though. A bummer but understandable, since its mount doesn't have any pins that will communicate with the camera.

For me, I'll be using this lens for those unhurried situations. But this is a keeper for me. I'm recommending strongly.

A well built manual focus lens. Focus & Aperture ring are very smooth. It's lightweight and is ideal for portrait as well as street photography. A great and budget friendly all around lens that is fast and great in low light condition. Go get it.

Love how smooth the aperture ring on this lens is! Works amazing on my XH1 and XT3 using focus peaking! For the price, I highly recommend it. The 1.7 really gives you a shallow depth of field producing great photos.

Decent quality prime lens. I like that it has a f1.7 max aperture. The stock Sony Zoom lenses are great for point and shoot, but it's nice to have a manual focus lens that allows you to really control depth of field. Bokeh is good. Color rendition is good. Works well with macro tubes as well. Very good value.
