Q: 1. Is it possible to mount a Canon Extender EF 1.4X iii to THIS Canon Extension Tube EF 25 ii TO the Canon 100mm f/2.8L Macro?
A: Yes, that should work. I would recommend taking a look at the Canon web-site. They will have a compatibility table for the extender.
Q: 2. How close can I focus with the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM lens and this extension tube? How exactly can you quantify the effect of the tube?
A: From the manufacturer, The EF 12 II extension tube changes the minimal focal distance to the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM to 85cm. There is no way to quantify the effect of the extension tube.
Q: 3. Is this a 1.4 or a 1.6 or a 2x converter? I'm not sure.
A: The Canon EF 25 II is not a teleconverter. It will not alter the focal length of a lens. It is a 25mm extension tube that will allow you to focus closer to the subject than otherwise possible with the lens.
Q: 4. Can the Canon tubes be stacked?
A: Yes, they can be stacked. I have used a 12 mm tube with a 25 mm tube, or two 25 mm tubes together. It is important to know that you'll lose the ability to focus to infinity. You'll gain the ability to focus closer than your lens's minimum focusing distance. You'll get some magnification as well. Generally, you might do this for macro work, or use combinations with large telephoto lens to focus closer to capture small birds for example.
Q: 5. Is the Canon EF 25 II Extension Tube compatible with my Canon 17-55 mm F/2.8 IS USM lens? Will it give me the ability to use auto focus and image stabilization with this extension tube or will I lose that ability?
A: This extension tube has full Auto focus capabilities; that's what all the pins are for they allow communication between your camera and lens. The image stabilization isn't depended on the extension tube. It's set separately on the lens. I am not sure why you want to use an extension tube on a wide-angle lens. Extension Tubes are usually used on telephoto lenses, allowing them to focus closer, and on macro lenses to gain some extra magnification. The whole point of an extension tube is to decrease the minimum focusing distance of a lens, and gain a little more magnification. A wide-angle lens inherently has a close focusing distance already, and normally you are shooting wide, and don't need any magnification, because if 35 mm is close enough, just zoom in to 55 mm. You have both abilities, but there really not usable on your lens. If you had a 600 mm lens, then this extension tube would be a good accessory to have.
Q: 6. I want to scan my negatives with my 5D IV but I don’t have a macro lens. Will this allow me to scan my negatives using my 50 1.4? Or do I need a true macro to scan negatives successfully?
A: You can but you will have to crop a bit to get full image. Your best bet is to get an extension tube set from Kenko, in which you can use 1-3 tubes to get the desired magnification. Click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/3fMfW3O or the Vello set; https://bhpho.to/3ixtnGA
Q: 7. How is this extension going to affect my 24-105 f4, mounted on a 5D mk II? I will be doing jewelry photography and trying to figure out if I need to invest in a macro lens vs modifying the one mentioned above. Thank you! Still figuring it all out, I hope the question makes sense :)
A: This extension tube will allow you to focus closer. The minimum focus distance of the 25-105 f/4 lens is about 17 . With this extension tube you should be able to focus at about 4-5 . That would be at 24 mm.
Q: 8. Does this work with a Zeiss 85 mm Milvus?
A: Hi Jim, I only have canon lenses. Works with them including my 85mm 1.8. Wider lenses give more depth of field.
Q: 9. Is this extension tube compatible with the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens (not the L series)? I'll be using it on a Canon 5D Mark III
A: Yes it is. Actually I also own a Canon 100mm Macro no L series too and I use two extension tubes with it. However you might sacrifice a little bit of sharpness when using two of them, and the depth of view is very shallow at 2.8, so you may have to shoot at very small appertures to have a better depth of view. And with this, you'll have to use a flash gun to iluminate the subject, but here is one tip: if you already own a 430 EX, 580EX or any othe flashgun, just attach a piece of white blank paper at it to bounce the light from above. This creates enough light to expose the subjects and very soft and defuse light making it very natural. You can check my instagram @dvl80 for some samples of macro with the settings I'm mentioning. Regards!Davi
Q: 10. How is an extension tube different from a 2x converter?
A: A teleconverter increases the size of your image sensor, whereas extension tubes do not and mostly used for macro photography.
