Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this compatible with Sony alpha 1?

A: Yes it is!

Q: 2. After I mounted the Sony FE 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens on my a7R3 and accidentally I tilted the lens down a little bit, the lens barrel automatically extended to reach the 200mm mark. In other words, the zoom mechanism does not lock as the lens tilts downward. Is this the design of the lens or I have a defective lens? Your help is truly appreciated.

A: That is normal for this and many zoom lenses.

Q: 3. How is this lens for video applications?

A: It works great for video! I've been shooting 4k nature video with this lens on a Sony A7RIII with both manual and auto focus. Super sharp at all focal lengths.

Q: 4. anybody expirienced this lens on fs7?ivan

A: This is a superb lens and we would expect equal performance on the Sony FS7.

Q: 5. will the Sony alpha 7III focus to f11?

A: This lens with any late model a7 will auto focus down to f/40.

Q: 6. Mounted on a Sony a7R2 can reach be extended optically without teleconverter?

A: Yes. With standard digital zoom, pictures captured by the image sensor of the camera are enlarged using digital signal processing. Therefore, as the magnification level increases, signals to be estimated also increase and can reduce the image quality. When using Clear Image Zoom , however, zoomed images are captured close to the original quality when shooting a still picture. The camera first zooms to the maximum optical magnification, then uses Clear Image Zoom technology to enlarge the image an additional 2x, producing sharp clear images despite the increased zoom ratio. The Smart Zoom™ feature allows images to be zoomed without losing picture quality. The central part of the picture is trimmed and enlarged without image processing.

Q: 7. Does this lens accepts the 1.4x

A: Yes, the Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens is compatible for use with the Sony FE 1.4x Teleconverter. The above two items are offered as a kit, which is the Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens with 1.4x Teleconverter Kit, B&H # SO100400GM1T, listed on our website.

Q: 8. Do you sell a replacement pouch for this lens individually?

A: Yes. The following can be sourced directly from Sony parts department Please review the following. https://bit.ly/3CY7OdV

Q: 9. Perhaps a dumb question, but why would one want to use a teleconverter on this lens instead of just using APS-C mode?

A: APS-C mode crops the image. You lose pixels or resolution. With the adapter, you maintain full resolution, but you lose some light gathering capability and you must work within the limits of the lens.

Q: 10. Which Tripod will be good for Sony 100-400 and Sony A7RII? To keep it without shaking .

A: Manfredo or any other heavy duty carbon fiber

I have been shooting Canon gear for many years and after seeing that my Sony RX10III got better results than my Canon 7D Mark II equipped with Canon's 100-400 MM L lens, I decided to look into high end Sony equipment and purchased this lens with a Sony A9 II. Amazing results - I was blown away by the immediate acquisition of birds in flight which is one of my favorite subjects. I am totally sold on this and my A9 II camera!! I also love the fact that the lens as a programmable button on it which I use to transfer the camera to crop mode.

For the money this is the sharpest wildlife lens I've shot with. I enjoy photographing birds, but shoot a variety of subjects. I've shot with Sigma super telephoto lenses on Nikon gear and was please until I realize my Sony system produced sharper images when zooming in on the subject. I purchased the Sony 200-600 mm lens and was disappointed with the sharpness. I returned it and purchase this lens and it's outstanding. On my Sony a7R IV I can crop to compensate for the lack of reach. I have yet to purchase the 2X converter but I do plan to give that a try. Also this lens is compact enough to travel with where the other zoom lens where just too large and heavy for me to luge through airports.

Great travel lens and the lens is razor sharp. Works well with the 1.4X converter and has an overall possible 840mm reach when used with the 1.4x and APS-C mode on a full-frame camera. It's a little pricey, but I think it's worth it.

Fantastic lens on my Sony A7Riii. Crystal clear detail at maximum distance. Optical stabilization helps with hand held shots and avoids need for tripod except for long exposures. On-lens controls help avoid using camera menus.

I love this lens. I really truly love this lens as soon as I open the box and gave it a go. I originally bought the 200-600 but was just not happy with it. I decided to return and get this. Wow, am I glad I did, this lens is amazing. All the reviewers on Youtube and Journalism reviews are very modest when they say the 200-600 lens is pretty good verse this lens. It isn't, if you pixel peep and like sharp images this lens is vastly superior. I am an optics snob so giving up the extra reach for the improvement in clarity is so so worth it. Now if Sony comes out with a 200-600 GM for 2,999 day 1 purchase. for me If I could get the 200-600 with the 100-400 optics it would be my dream lens.
