The 32" OC-OSB80 Octa Softbox from Raya is an 8-sided light modifier supported by aluminum flexrods which are attached to the separately purchased Octa Fluorescent 7 fixture.

The softbox features a highly reflective pebbled interior and a removable front face that attaches with simple touch-fasteners. It also has a detachable interior clip-on diffuser for additional soft light if desired. In use, it renders the signature wrap-around look that the modifier's shape is well known for, as well as natural circular catch-lights in your subjects eyes. This softbox is made to be used with the OC-OF7 Fluorescent 7 fixture and fluorescent lamps only.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The specs say a max of 350W but each socket is rated for 105W. Has anyone tried using 105W CFL's in this fixture with success?

A: I have not but there is a single fuse in the back so my guess is it would work with up to three but I dont think you will be able to put more than three in at once or it will blow the fuse for the whole fixture.

Q: 2. To speed setup, can the domes be set up then just put them on the stands and add the bulbs at a close location w big suv?

A: The softboxes in the Raya Octa Fluorescent 7-Socket Fixture 2-Light Softbox Kit can be attached to the light fixture in advance and placed on the stands when you are ready to shoot.

Q: 3. Is there a max wattage rating? per socket? total wattage? Are the sockets plastic or ceramic/porcelain? Will it accommodate a mix of different wattage bulbs?

A: The total wattage the light fixture is rated for is 350 watts in fluorescent bulbs. The sockets are plastic not ceramic.

Q: 4. I was recently given one of these, can you use LED lamps or do you have to use CFL's?

A: You have to use CFL's

Q: 5. Can the light level be adjusted, or is it always on ?

A: The Raya Octa Fluorescent 7-Socket Fixture has dual rocker switches on their back panels, each of which control on/off function for 3 or 4 lamps allowing the creation of a light ratio. You can either turn one switch on to use 3 lamps, the other switch to use 4 lamps, or both switches to use all 7 lamps at once.

Q: 6. Will this support tungsten bulbs?

A: Unfortunately, the Raya Octa Fluorescent 7-Socket Fixture 1-Light Softbox Kit is only suitable for fluorescent lamps or LED lamps.

Q: 7. I'm looking at some CFL Bulbs that are 45W but they are 3" in diameter. Will they fit if using all 7 in the fixture?

A: It is difficult to say as B&H uses slightly smaller than 3" 32W Florescent bulbs in this fixture. 3" might just fit but it depends in part on the shape of the base as well. If it is narrower at the base it may work.

Q: 8. Can 4x85w or 3x105w bulbs be used safely in this lamp ? I'd like to reach the max rating of 350w, but 50w bulbs seem hard to find and/or very expensive. thank you

A: They are $2 each which is cheap, and they last for years which is a good value. They work very well. I would not change the bulb type at all, ever. Do a search for CFL bulbs 5000K 50W and you will see how easy they are to buy.

Q: 9. Can this be used with the Impact Luxbanx softboxes?

A: This fixture does not have a standard sized ring it is only compatible with a specific softbox https://bhpho.to/3aWQ96X.

Q: 10. Can someone tell me the output of these lights in lumens or lux at 1 meter?

A: According to the manufacturer, when using the Raya Octa Fluorescent 7-Socket Fixture 1-Light Softbox Kit, using the included Eiko 26-watt bulbs, inner baffle, and diffuser would be 678 lux @1 meter (3.3 feet). The CCT color temperature is 5,061K, with color accuracy measurements listed as CRI 87.6 and TCLI of 70. Unfortunately, they did not have a lumens measurement for this light fixture setup.

Nice and bright, use them indoors, the only thing I should have thought about, is the size. The head is not really easy to break down, but I don't think they were meant for that.
