Built with four 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A ports, the RocketU 1344A 4-Port USB 3.2 Gen 2 PCIe 3.0 x4 HBA Controller Card from HighPoint allows users to connect four USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB 3.2 Gen 1, USB 2.0, and USB 1.0 devices to their compatible Windows 8 and later, macOS 10.9 and later, or Linux system using a PCIe 3.0 x4, x8, or x16 slot. This card has a full-height form factor and can be used to connect to external drives, docks, drive enclosures, printers, scanners, mice, trackballs, flash drives, card readers, and more.

Please note that while each individual USB port supports up to 10 Gb/s of bandwidth, there are two USB chipsets, each of which drives two of the four USB ports. Each USB chipset provides two of the ports with 10 Gb/s total, so if both USB ports from the same chipset are in use, each port will only run at 5 Gb/s. All in all, this card has 20 Gb/s of total bandwidth available.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. how much watt usage for this card?

A: I do not know the answer to that question, as I have an 1150 watt power supply, and simply never was concerned.

Q: 2. Would this work on an Xserve 2,1?

A: not sure - sorry -the only problem I have it doesn't power every external usb 3.0 or 2.0 bus powered drive. media transfer stops half way through. I find that the new thunderbolt bus powered external drives with 3.0 connections do transfer media fine.

Q: 3. Will this work with PCI 1X Gen 2.0?

A: Yes, the Sonnet Allegro 2-Port USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C PCIe 3.0 Card BH #SOUSB3C2PME can be installed on a PCIe x1 Gen 2 slot.

Q: 4. Will this read SDXC cards?

A: I'm sorry, but the Sabrent 3-Port USB 3.0 Hub with SD and Micro SD Card Readers will only read SD or SDHC cards. It will not read SDXC cards. For a similar docking station that supports SDXC, I would recommend this one from Xcellon: https://bhpho.to/46deBip

Q: 5. Do the four ports share a 5 Gb/s bandwidth, so the more devices you connect, the slower each runs? Or, does each port have a dedicated 5 Gb/s bandwidth?

A: They do not share a 5 Gb/s bandwidth. Each port has a dedicated 5 Gb/s bandwidth.

Q: 6. Will this device read first generation CF cards?

A: The Wise Advanced CFast 2.0 USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Card Reader will read any type of CFast cards but be careful since CFast is not the same as CF. CF is mostly the short hand term for Compact Flash and those cannot be used in a CFast reader.

Q: 7. Can this card be installed into the new Mac Pro?

A: Yes, this card would work perfectly with the MacPro 2019 models.

Q: 8. do need power supply with this card?

A: No, the Sonnet USB3-4PM-E Allegro 4-Port USB 3.2 Gen 1 PCI Express Card BH #SOUSB34PME gets power from the PCIe slot.

Q: 9. Will this card work on PCI Express 1.0?

A: You can but it is not recommended as there may be a performance hit.

Q: 10. Will this work with High Sierra?

A: Yes Sonnet USB3-4PM-E Allegro 4-Port USB 3.2 Gen 1 PCI Express Card will work for High Sierra.
