A simple, yet powerfully effective tool for content creators, the Blue Microphones Yeti is a USB mic offering a broadcast-quality sound, a rugged design, and multiple recording modes to suit your needs. The Yeti, offfered here in a blackout finish, has become a go-to mic for people who record podcasts, and who stream on YouTube, Twitch, Facebook Live, and other similar platforms.

The multiple mic modes allow virtually any kind of content creator to do their thing with precision and ease. Use the cardioid setting to reject off-axis noise, minimizing room tone even when speaking directly into the mic. If you're recording with one other guest, select the Bidirectional polar pattern; now, you can speak into the front, while the guest speaks into the back, and the sides of the mic will reject unwanted room noise. Choose omnidirectional to pickup audio all around the capsule, which is great for work that features multiple voices. Finally, a stereo mode is wonderful for ASMR content or for recording music. A desktop stand and a USB cable are included, as is a suite of VO!CE software FX to improve your sound.

This mic is perfect for recording directly to computers, be they mac or windows systems. With the right, separately available adapters, you can also record with Android and iOS devices.

Yeti features controls for headphone volume, pattern selection, instant mute and microphone gain—putting you in charge of every level of the recording process. If you're experiencing distortion or feedback while recording an especially loud source, simply adjust the microphone's sensitivity with the gain control. Or, if you want to take a break in the middle of a podcast, use the instant mute button. Also, the included stand allows for pivoting in a variety of angles for ideal placement, with the added functionality of folding the mic down for storage and transport.

The mic has an integrated headphone amp with an independent gain control for latency-free monitoring. Simply plug your headphones into the mic's 3.5mm input, and you'll hear your broadcast-quality audio in all its glory.

The mic records audio at 16-bit / 48 kHz, giving you the broadcast standard for media playback. On the audio side, the tri-capsule design ensures that whatever mode you choose, the mic will pick up a clear and present sound.

Just plug the Yeti into your computer's USB port with the included USB cable, select it as a device in your recording software, and you're ready to get to work. The Yeti runs off your device's power, so no need to plug it into a wall. With driver-free operation, you won't have to download pesky software to get it up and running.

Blue VO!CE software is included, giving you an array of high-quality vocal filters, FX, and samples to showcase your voice in the best light. You'll find the following FX on hand:

  • High-pass filter
  • Noise reduction filter
  • Expander/gate
  • De-esser

Q: 7. Does anyone successfully power the blue yeti with wall outlet and record the voice directly to your camera? I have tried iphone and ipad charger, and it only shows power on, but camera shows no audio. Anyone can help?

A: The Blue Yeti is a digital mic that is powered by the USB port of the device it is connected to and can only be used to record audio to digital devices such as Mac and Windows computers, and can also be used with smartphones and tablets when paired with an appropriate adapter. The Yeti cannot be powered with a wall adapter and does not provide a mic level analog audio signal for direct connection to a camera's mic input. However, when using the Yeti with a computer, you can use the headphone output which provides a line level analog audio signal intended for headphones. Just as with a recorder's headphone output, you can use a line-to-mic attenuating cable such as the Kopul ACH4-25MON (B&H # KOACH425MON) or Kopul ACDR-35 (B&H # KOACDR35) for compatibility with a camera's mic level input. If a longer cable is needed to reach the camera's mic input, just add a 3.5mm TRS extension cable such as the Pearstone Stereo Mini Male to Stereo Mini Female Extension Cable - 10' (B&H # PEMMSB110B). As another option, the Blue Yeti Pro USB & XLR Microphone (B&H # BLYETIPRO) provides an analog mic level output signal via XLR as well as a digital output via USB.

Q: 8. What's the recommended configuration of the mic? There's no shock mount included, and with the Yeti attached to the reflection filter, there isn't enough room for cables.

A: The Yeti shockmount (BLRADIUSIIBO) can be used on a mic stand. It allows room for the cable.

Q: 9. How long does the blue yeti microphone take to charge

A: The Blue Yeti USB Microphone (Blackout) BH #BLPQ3CUSBMC is not battery operated and will not charge. It derives continuous power from the host computer via its USB connection.

Q: 10. what is the length of the blue yeti blackout micrphone's cable?

A: The USB cable included with the Blue Yeti USB Microphone is 6 feet long.

I used this Mic so far on skype, over ISP phone service and the people on the other end right away could tell the difference. I plan to do much more with this mic, though those were just tests. It is a good buy. Thanks to B&H and the mic company. Would not hesitate to recommend.

I purchased this microphone to record audio for instructional design (e-learning) programs I use, such as Articulate. After researching microhphones on this site and others, I decided to go with the Yeti. I'm extremely impressed with the ease of setup and the professional quality sound it records. The monitor/headphone jack is a great feature, as well as the 10ft USB cable. Heads up-- this mic is so good you DO need to buy a popper stopper with it. I bought the Shure 4-layer and it works great.

I use my Blue Yeti mic for podcasting and for voiceovers of online tutorials. So far, I have been very impressed with the Yeti's capabilities. I'm an audiophile so I'm pretty critical when it comes to recording, especially the human voice. For me, the Yeti shines when used in Cardioid mode. The vocal timbres are just right and require little post-processing, if any, as long as you have a decent recording environment. What's amazing is that you can literally plug the Yeti into any open USP port and start recording straight away. No downloads, no drivers, no setup. Using the open source Audacity program, recording is literally a matter of doing a few mouse clicks. This is a heavy mic which has its pros and cons. If you're recording on a desktop, you'll appreciate the solidity of the construction. It's a very sensitive mic and you need a solid base to dampen any vibrations. At 3 lb, it's not the most portable mic though. Overall, this mic gives excellent value for your money.

And this has been an absolute fantastic microphone! I needed this microphone for my personal recording studio, and I needed something that would be USB capable. While my professional microphone works just fine, my mixing board bit the dust, so I needed something I could use without connecting my mixer. Well, this has been a GREAT microphone so far - no issues whatsoever. It truly is plug and play, and it works flawlessly with my cool edit/adobe. Admittedly I researched this mic, and I was impressed with the pricing - especially the fact that it was $50 less than at retailers in my area as well as other online retailers. As a professional broadcaster, I would recommend this mic to anyone seeking a USB plug & play.

This Mic picks up even the most subtle nuances. Very clear reproduction of my guitar amps and acoustic guitar. Most features out off all mics in its class. Very sturdy. Professional microphone with Simple plug and play use. No complaints here!!!

I bought this for primarily Skype meetings (multiple local people, multiple remote), and it works great. Some echoing, but caused by speakers being too loud and positioned wrong. I was not aware of an awesome feature it has: The headset output can be used as a separate sound output device for your computer, mixed with that beautiful 0ms-delay monitoring of your own voice. In other words, play a track on your PC with Audacity, and sing along while recording - all over the headphones attached to the mic. Nice! Check the size of this thing before buying, it's rather big. Still easy to mount to a mic stand, however...
