- Product Code: ga185315

Suitable for landscapes, nature, and astrophotography, the Canon EF-mount AF 14mm f/2.8 from Samyang is a bright ultra-wide prime characterized by its autofocus design and immense field of view. The optical design features one extra-low dispersion element, two aspherical elements, and four high refractive index elements, which help to reduce a variety of aberrations and distortions for greater sharpness, clarity, and color rendering. An Ultra Multi-Coating has also been applied to individual elements to suppress lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast when working in strong lighting conditions. Complementing the optical design, the autofocus system makes use of a lightweight focusing group for quick and quiet performance that benefits both photo and video applications. Additionally, the lens also has an all-metal housing and is weather-sealed for use in inclement weather conditions.

Ultra wide-angle prime is designed for full-frame-format Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however, can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 22.6mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture is well-suited to working in challenging lighting conditions and benefits astrophotography applications.
One extra-low dispersion element helps to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for notable clarity and color accuracy.
Two aspherical and four high refractive index elements minimize distortion and spherical aberrations to achieve high sharpness and accurate rendering.
An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and a neutral color balance.
Rounded, seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Dedicated AF/MF switch is available for quickly changing between focusing methods.
Durable, all-metal lens construction is weather-sealed for use in trying environmental conditions.
Integrated lens hood helps to block stray light from causing flare or ghosting and provides additional protection to the front element.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Will auto focus work with FTZ adapter to nikon Z7 body?
A: Samyang makes a dedicated Z mount version of the 14mm f/2.8 https://bhpho.to/32Q8oaV
Q: 2. Is this lens focus by wire? Some say it jumps when trying to manually focus stars as point sources of light.
A: Yes this is a focus by wire and doesn't have hard stops, so for focusing on stars it may be a bit more difficult than with a lens that has hard stops, but I have tried it and have had no issues focusing on stars.
Q: 3. What is a lens station?
A: Lens station is this USB dock that lets you connect the lens to a computer and update firmware and adjust settings on the lens. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1469575-REG/samyang_syiols_e_lens_station_for_sony.html
Q: 4. Does anyone have experience with the AF on the C70? Is it even compatible?
A: Yes, the Samyang AF 14mm f/2.8 RF Lens for Canon RF would be compatible for use on the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera.
Q: 5. is the firmware the latest update?
A: At the time this lens was shipped from the mfr, it had the latest update, there may be another update available at this time.
Q: 6. Do you need to elens station to update the lens firmware? I will be using it with the Sony a7iv.
A: Yes to update the firmware in the lens you do need the lens station.
Q: 7. is the autofocus as fast as the Sony lenses?
A: The auto focus is fast but not quite as fast as native Sony lenses.
Q: 8. Is this a focus by wire lens. Some say it jumps when trying to accurately manually focus stars as points of light?
A: Yes this lens has a focus-by-wire system.
Q: 9. Will this fit a Canon 80D?
A: This lens is compatible with the Canon EOS 80D.
Q: 10. Is there noticeable distortion with this lens?
A: The lens has some distortion and vignetting. While it is nowhere near the amount of the manual focus 14mm lens, the distortion and vignetting is not automatically corrected by Sony cameras (which only have profiles for their own lenses). While I have not seen an actual test of the distortion performance, there is not much, and it is relatively easy to get rid of in post-editing. One source I found stated that the measurement for distortion did not come in at higher than 1%, which is not a lot and which is surprising, especially for a super-wide angle lens. The old manual lens had a mustache distortion pattern, while it appears the minimum distortion on this lens is more of a barrel distortion pattern. While there is no profile for the lens in Lightroom, some have found that using the Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 lens' profile does a rather good job of correcting the slight distortion. In either case, if you are not happy with the lens' performance, the lens is subject to the terms and conditions of our 30-Day Return Policy (link found on the bottom of our website).
