This Cokin Evo Circular Polarizer Filter is designed for use with an Evo Aluminum X-Pro Series Filter Holder's front plate, or it can be placed directly on a lens that features 127mm front filter threads. When applied, it helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.

The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces, and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

Cokin Evo circular polarizer filters are constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity, and promote nearly flat attenuation of visible and UV light. This 127mm Evo circular polarizer filter features a durable, lightweight, 7.50mm-thick aluminum-alloy filter ring assembly with a front ring that can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect. These rings minimize the potential for vignetting, and the front ring also includes corresponding 127mm front filter threads for use with other screw-on filters.

To help eliminate internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface of the 127mm Evo Circular Polarizer Filter features 16 layers of Cokin's EVERCLEAR 5 anti-reflection coating. These coatings are resistant to oil, dust, dirt, and scratches, offering greater protection to the filter and helping it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. The coatings are also hydrophobic, resulting in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the telescope itself metal or is it cheap plastic?

A: it is metal. overall parts quality is good

Q: 2. What is the weight of the optical tube without accessories (no lens cap, finder, diagonal, or eyepiece)?

A: The OTA is about 6 lbs.

Q: 3. What can i see with this?, my other telescope is a 40$ scope and i can barely focus on the moon with it. is this able to view stars easy with faint village sized community lights?

A: So it really depends on your sky and the clarity. This is a great scope for the price point. I would recommend not using this where there are street lights. The image will be fuzzy, and distorted.

Q: 4. Does it have clock drive and works in the Southern hemisfere ?

A: It does have a clock drive, but I still haven't used that feature...I just find the planet I want and then use the controller to re-center the image...not really the best way to use the scope, but for me it works. One night I will take the manual out with me and figure out how to align by the stars and then the image will be centered all night in the scope...plus mine have Go To so once aligned you just push a button and thousands of items are available to see all centered in the view. As to whether it works in the southern hemisphere I don't know...maybe the Celestron website can help you out. All in all a great little scope for the money with very nice views of larger planets, star clusters and amazing views of moon...not to mention a great scope for birds, earth-bound images, etc...Jon W. on Jan 13, 2015

Q: 5. what kind of things can i see with this, without needed to buy any extras?

A: Bottom line is buy this set! The telescope, tripod, equatorial mount, software and rd flashlight is worth EVERY penny. To be honest, you'll have to buy additional eyepieces. The 4mm eyepiece is not useful with this telescope because of the aperture and focal length. I suggest buying a quality zoom eyepiece (one piece but includes five or six different magnification stops) and a shorty 2x Barlow. With these, you can see Jupiter and its striated atmosphere AND several of its moons (the number of visible moons depends on the time of year. I've seen Jupiter and four of its moons ibn the same field of view). You can see Mars and its varying shades of brownish red. You can see Saturn and its rings. With the 2x Barlow, you can see the space between the planet and its rings!Observing the moon with the eyepiece I've suggested will absolutely knock your socks off! In fact, observing the moon from half to full is so bright you may want to consider buying a moon filter. It's not necessary but you'll understand once you've marveled at the full moon! You may even be able to observe nebulae, galaxies and clusters. I've had my telescope, the same one you're considering, since early June and because of where I live and the time of year, I haven't been able to view any of those yet.The day my telescope arrived and using only the contents on the box, I spent hours looking at the moon. I lost track of time because I was mesmerized. At about 2am, my wife came outside and told me I had to quiet down (I was oohing and ahhing, pretty loudly I'm told!) I was so taken, I had several telescope parties over the summer, inviting every friend who expressed an interest. EVERY person that looked through the eyepiece voiced their amazement at what they were observing. The loudest oohs and ahs came from looking at Saturn and the moon. I must disclose that for the parties i was using my zoom eyepiece and the 2x shorty Barlow. What I'm saying is BUY IT! It's a fantastic telescope for beginners and intermediates.Enjoy!
