However, it will also run off the D-tap cable from the larger brick style batteries (the ones that use the V-mount or Gold mounts), as long as it has the appropriate voltage. A: Yes, it could be used as a back light, if you get it fairly close(no more than 6 feet away). I often use it that way. I mainly use it as a camera light to fill in the face on hand held work. It doesn't project very far, but it is a great light for what I use it for. I love the light.
