Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will it work with the z150?

A: Because of the design of the Sony Z150 it would be better to use counterweight stabilizers with a wider and more open platform, here is a good option from Glidecam for example: https://bhpho.to/2gOyg2v

Q: 2. Is there any place on the handle where you can mount a wireless receiver (audio)? If there is a 1/4''-20 hole somewhere that will work to be able to mount a cold shoe on to put the receiver in.

A: There are currently no accessories designed to be able to do this, but we are working on a wide range of accessories that will allow for a large number of mounting and accessory options.

Q: 3. Do you need the app in order to balance/use this or the Ronin M, or does it just help fine tune?

A: The App is not required to balance this gimbal. However it is very helpful to use for fine tuning.

Q: 4. Do I need a cable to operate the Ronin S with the Canon 5DIV?

A: You can fly the camera on the stabilizer without needing any control cables. If you wish to have start and stop recording through the handle, consider purchasing this cable. DJI Ronin-S Multi-Camera Control Cable (Micro-USB Type-B) B&H # DJCPRN001101 MFR # CP.RN.00000011.01. https://bhpho.to/2VuK4XK

Q: 5. Can this be used with a Canon C300?

A: We have not tested the Ronin-S with the C300, but upon review it may be too large to be balanced properly and/or give you full range of motion. The weight may not be an issue depending on your lens.

Q: 6. What is known about that follow focus system on the side of the handle?: Is it included? Does it work with only certain cameras? Will they have an external servo that that piece can control?

A: Hey William. A list of included accessories has not been announced yet so as of the writing of this comment we can't say. Compatibility with other cameras is still being developed and a full list will likely be released when it starts shipping. For cameras that are incompatible, the focus unit will be compatible with our DJI Focus motor.

Q: 7. Does the Ronin S essentials Kit cable compatibility with Sony a7iii or I have to buy another cable?

A: Unfortunately it does not. You would need to purchase BH #DJRONINP13CB which is the control cable for the Sony A7iii. https://bhpho.to/2KuHQ7Y

Q: 8. Will this be able to balance with 11-24L on 5dmkiii?

A: Ronin-S can carry a maximum payload of 8lbs and according to our tests, the Ronin-S can capture stabilized footage with a 5D Mk IV + EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM lens.

Q: 9. Can I mount a Sony PXW-Z90 V cam corder on the Ronin S and still have the tilt functions work? The camcorder is 7.5 inches from the front of the fixed lens to the back of the battery.

A: Based on the size dimensions and weight specifications on the camera, it should work fine. I have seen a RED Epic w/battery and Canon 24-70 work, and while smaller in size, the weight is much higher and the motors were able to compensate with some adjustment on the Ronin app. I would take time to set up the proper tilt speed on the Ronin app if longer weight distribution effects the tilt motor performance. The primary limiting dimension for mounting cameras on the Ronin S would be width, (Cannot exceed Approx 6 or so?) and weight. While weight can't be fixed necessarily (is still able to hold beyond suggested payload) Width can be compensated using an additional wide slider plate attachment

Q: 10. Can someone explain why the manfrotto-style plate which comes with the Ronin-S is not compatible with standard Manfrotto style tripod heads and quick releases?

A: The Ronin-S plate is not compatible with most Manfrotto heads. Currently the only confirmed 3rd party plate that works in the Ronin-S is the BH# EIEH6P plate.
