Sigma's 40mm T1.5 FF Canon EF Mount Fully Luminous High-Speed Prime Lens, with the scale marked in feet, combines the same high-quality optics and mechanics of their Global Vision still line in a cine-oriented design. This 40mm Canon EF-mount prime is a mid-range focal length in the series, offering full-frame sensor coverage, 6-8K resolution, and a T1.5 aperture in a compact, lightweight form; it is also available in Sony E and PL mounts. A common 95mm front diameter and similar physical attributes across the lens line make it easier and quicker to mount lens accessories such as matte boxes, follow focuses, and lens control motors.

The 9-bladed iris produces pleasing out-of-focus bokeh effects, and ghosting and flaring have been minimized. Color reproduction is standardized for easier color correction. Each lens in the range offers consistent lens gear positions and 180° of focus barrel rotation. The FF High-Speed Primes also feature a clickless iris with linear markings, dampeners on each gear ring for silent operation, industry-standard 0.8 module gear pitch, and engraved markings for durability. What sets this lens apart from the standard Sigma High Speed Primes is fully luminescent markings. When shooting in dim or dark environments, focus pullers and camera operators will be able to easily discern lens markings without resorting to distracting lamps or other disruptive light sources.

To relieve stress on your camera's lens mount, a support foot is built into the dust-resistant and water-resistant metal lens body. If you wish to fit your FF High-Speed Prime lens to a different camera, the Canon EF and Sony E mount versions can be converted from one to the other by an authorized Sigma service center (not available for PL mounts).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. No image stabilzation?

A: You are correct, no image stabilization for the CN-E 14mm T3.1 L F Cinema Prime Lens (EF Mount). Virtually all Cinema lenses do not have image stabilization. Ironically, pro grade equipment generally lags way behind what consumer equipment can do. Mostly it is because there is no need for many of the consumer advances, or there are answers for the problem in say using a dolly, a Steadicam or simply a good camera operator. IS would be expensive to implement and at this time, I am sure the powers that be do not feel the need for it.

Q: 2. Does this lens support 6k resolution? Can i put a circular ND filter & is there a 114mm circular ND filter?

A: This lens is capable of full 4K-Resolution performance. You can use 105mm screw in filters on all the Canon Cinema Prime Lenses. Here are three suggestions in good-better-best order: Tiffen 105mm Coarse Thread UV Protector Filter B&H # TIUVP105, B+W 105mm UV Haze MRC 010M Filter B&H # BWUVMC105, Sigma 105mm WR UV Filter B&H # SIUV105Q.

Q: 3. do these lens support 8k?

A: yes this lens will resolve beyond 12K.

Q: 4. What is the gear pitch on the lens rings?

A: The gear pitch for these cinema lenses is the industry standard of 0.8mm. The other pitch 0.6mm is reserved for ENG 2/3 lenses and is very, very rare to have it on cinema lenses.

Q: 5. which one is better, this lens or Rokinon Xeen 16mm T2.6?

A: The Canon would be considered the overall superior lens. But the Rokinon Xeen lenses are terrific glass for the money that would perform admirably in most projects for most filmmakers.

Q: 6. What kind of horizontal distortion does this lens render on full frame around the top and bottom of the frame? Does it have barrel distortion, bulge distortion, pincushion distortion, or wave/ wiggle distortion? Do lines stay straight horizontally?

A: All extreme wide lenses exhibit some level of barrel, chromatic, and rectilinear distortion. If you wish to avoid these negatives while using wide lenses, do not get too close to your subject and cause barrel distortion or tilt and cause leaning lines. This Canon CN-E 14mm reduces all wide angle distortions to an absolute minimum. This is in keeping with the fact that this lens is meant for the Hollywood market where only the best will do. Final note: Wide and tele lenses have characteristics unique unto themselves. In the beginning of their camera career, people often look at these characteristics as negatives to be overcome. In time, the user knows what to look for and then exploits these characteristics to storytelling advantage.

Q: 7. Does this lenses support auto focus?

A: I don't think so, as far as I know this is a completely manual lens...but she's a dandy!

Q: 8. If the EF Mount version is adapted with a Metabones adapter onto an FS5/FS7, Will that difference in distance from rear element to sensor throw off the distance marks on the lens barrel for focus?

A: We do not believe it would throw off the distance markers. However, this lens is available with an E-Mount, B&H # ROXN50NEX, you may want to use that model instead for a direct connection to the FS5 or FS7.https://bhpho.to/2HeeiuH

Q: 9. Is there thread for screw on lens filters? What mm?

A: Yes, these are 114mm threads.

Q: 10. I am considering purchasing this for cinema and astrophotograpy. Does the cine version focus confirm like the photo version?

A: The primary difference between the still and cine lenses made under the Samyang/Rokinon brand names is the barrel. Still lenses have vertical scales and no gears. Cine lenses have horizontal scales and gears. The image quality of the color and sharpness is remarkable considering their cost. These would be excellent for cine use. For astrophotography, I would be of the opinion that the corners might have chromatic aberration and coma. This would have to be tested.
