Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Would this film work with an Ansco Shur Shot? The inside of the camera says For best result use Ansco 120 film . Also would it work in bright sunlight? (Southern California)
A: Yes it will fit. Get Portra 160 for bright sunlight.
Q: 2. How many photos can you take with this?
A: It depends on the format of the medium format camera being used, and on occasion the particular camera. 6x4.5mm = 16 shots (15 on some older models)6x6mm = 12 shots6x7mm = 10 shots
Q: 3. First time I've bought film not in a roll. Using it in a pinhole camera. How does it come packaged? Is each sheet in its own lightproof sleeve or is it all bundled in one lightproof sleeve? I ask because I need to put it into 5x7 film holders in the dark and I want to know what to expect. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I have a darkroom with a red light bulb I can dim way down. Should that be okay for processing in trays?
A: Sheet film is packaged in a trip box..... The 25 sheets of film will be in a black plastic bag and then contained within a box with an additional lid. The combination of black plastic bag and the double-boxing keeps the film light tight. Sheet film comes with a notch code in the top corner. If you are loading your holders with the opening flap at the top; the notch code should be in the top right corner when loading. Film is panchromatic so it must be loaded and processed in complete darkness. Your red safelight can only be used when making contact prints.
Q: 4. Has anyone using this film had success pushing or pulling this film? If so, by what number of stops? Thanks.
A: Portra 400 is really amazing as it has about a 7 stop latitude. 4 over and 3 under. It has Kodak's movie film Vision3 technology in it. Its made to cover about every situation. I think its best overexposed 1-2 stops. But also pushes quite well. Remember, pushing color film only increases contrast not light. The scene still has to be lit.
Q: 5. What's the main difference between Lasal Matte and Entrada Matte? Which would work better for prints mounted to greeting cards? Need a soft velvet matte finish.
A: The Entrada paper is thicker, 15.5mil. If you are mounting the paper to greeting cards, the thinner Lasal would probably be fine. As far as which one looks better would be a matter of opinion and might vary depending on the image too.
Q: 6. Does this film have a expiration date ?
A: B&H buys and sells film in bulk. In general we regularly maintain fresh film stock. All of our film is at least 6 months from expiration (typically much longer). Anytime film stock is less than 6 months from expiration we sell it in a separate section and label it as short-dated film and also price it with a slight discount (again due to the volumes we sell this rarely occurs). Unfortunately we do not have access to our inventory to hand inspect the expiration date of any of our films prior to purchase.
Q: 7. I live in oversea. so i want to know if it is safe from Xray when it shipped. Can i using it without problems like fog?
A: Yes, it will be safe for shipping overseas, it will not fog up from X-rays during transport.
Q: 8. How many exposures could I get with one roll of this film if I was using a Nikon FM-10?
A: This film is not compatible with 35mm cameras, but rather medium format. I suggest Kodak TX 135-36 Tri-X Pan Black & White Print Film, which will give you 36 exposures: http://bhpho.to/1m9bwkW
Q: 9. How do u rate this fpr monochrome prints
A: Hi Arvind. Thanks for your inquiry. The paper is superb for both monochrome and color, with an advanced coating that reproduces a wide tonal range. You'll also get very good detail in the blacks with its high dmax.
Q: 10. Will this work in a Konica t3 and If so will I need different film for different lighting or will the 400 be okay in bright sun (Arizona)Thanks!
A: This film would be 120 format so it would not be compatible with your Konica T3 which accept 35mm format film. You could use ISO 400 film if you are shooting in various lighting conditions. However, if you're only shooting in bright sunlight most of the time, you would be better off with a film such as Kodak Professional Portra 160 Color Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures) B&H # KOP16036 which is best suited for those conditions.
