Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it compatible with the NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4E ED VR and D500

A: Quoting directly from the Vello website... They are compatible with all AF and AF-S lenses.

Q: 2. Will this work with the Matthews 5" pocket c-stand legs?

A: Yes, this Matthew MICRO Shot Bag can work with the Matthews 5" Pocket C-stand Legs.

Q: 3. I have a Nikon D610 along with a Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G Macro lens and would like to get close ups of flowers, insects and snowflakes. Are these extension tubes compatible with my equipment?

A: The extension tubes are absolutely compatible with your gear. You have an excellent macro lens already. The extension tubes will let you get even closer. A tripod is absolutely necessary.

Q: 4. I am new to macro photography. I have the Panosonic G85 and the Olympus pro 12-100 Lens. How much closer will I be able to get to my subject using these extension tubes? I have seen other questions that show calculations but I dont really understand the answers. I am am amateur photographer.

A: The length of tube divide the length of focal length equal to the magnification. Example: 26mm tube/10mm lens = 2.6 magnification. If your lens have 1:1 magnification ratio then you have total 2.6 plus 1.1 =3.7 magnification.

Q: 5. Three questions 1)What benefit would I have by using these tubes with a Nikon D5000 and a Macro Nikon Lens 60mm. Would it extend the distance of the Macro lens or increasae magnification. 2)Can I use it with a Tamron DX -70-300mm? 2) Is it fully AF on those two lenses.

A: It will not extend the distance. It will give you more magnification and will shorten the shooting distance. And it will retain autofocus with the Tamron DX -70-300mm and the Nikon 60mm AF-S version on the D5000 But you cannot close down more than 5.6 depending on how many rings you use. Otherwise it will be manual focus. As a note, with macro photography the depth of field is so small that it can work better to manual focus.

Q: 6. Will these tubes work with an AF-P lens (like the AF-P 70-300 FX)? What about an E-type (electronic aperture) lens, like the AF-S 16-80?

A: These extension tubes are only compatible with AF-S lenses or older.

Q: 7. When disassembled, what is the length on the longest of the 3 pieces?

A: The longest part should be 2.8'.

Q: 8. B & H salesmen told me the tubes only work with a macro lens. From what I'm reading on this site a macro lens is not necessary. I was at B & H an hour ago. I'm confused now. Do I need a macro lens?

A: Extension tubes will work not only with macro lenses, but with many other prime and zoom lenses as well. I could provide you with additional sources of information but B&H prohibits me from citing other sources or from providing you my contact information. Google topics like close-up photography' or 'macro photography with extension tubes' or 'how to use extension tubes' and look around. I forwarded specific information on this topic to B&H several weeks ago, but they must have decided not to use it.

Q: 9. Will these work with any MFT lens? Specifically, will they work with the Olympus 60mm f/2.8 macro lens?

A: Yes, they pretty much work with any lens, especially macro lenses.

Q: 10. In one comment it says the Nikon version does not pass exposure info to teh camera. Is that correct?

A: From my experience it depends on the lens the extension tubes are being used with. They do work fine and pass all data for exposure and focus if the right lenses are used. So it is a matter of lenses working correctly rather than Nikon camera bodies. I bekieve you will always find that some lenses work better with extension tubes than others. These tubes work fantastic with the Nikon D7100 and Tamron 70 - 200 macro combination.
