The Tiffen 55mm Black Satin 1 Filter helps to reduce the overall contrast of an image and better control the highlights within a scene. In addition to rendering highlights with a grittier, more grainy appearance, this filter also helps to subtly soften facial blemishes and wrinkles for a natural, refined look. The 1 density provides less contrast and highlight reduction than the 2, while still producing a soft, yet natural appearance.

This filter is constructed from Water White glass and is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and mounting to precision metal rings.

Q: 1. Is this a UV filter?

A: The Canon 58mm Protector Filter is a clear protection filter. It does not block UV light.

Q: 2. is this filter lens glass or plastic ?

A: It is made of glass.

Q: 3. I have a 10-16 wide angle canon lens. I need to know what UV protection filter is good for that lens. Which one should I get? Thank you!

A: I would not know. Canon does not make this lens any more. I have high quality UV filters on all my lens's

Q: 4. What size UV filter for What size UV filter for an '80s Canon AE1 w/a 50mm/1:18 Does anyone know? lens

A: Let me see if I can help you !On the business end of most lens, there will be a Greek symbol, next to some numbers. That is the size of the opening / threaded end and the size of the filter you will need. This is the thread size which means you can attach that size of filter directly. There are lots of other options available, such as step up adapters, and just as many opinions as to their functionality. Some specialty lenses do not accept filters, in which case you won't see any markings. Some believe that there will be a reduction in image quality if you use a filter. I will say that just as there is a difference in the glass quality in different lens, there is most certainly a difference in glass quality in filters too. For that reason, buy quality. Generally, the less you pay, the better the chance for a reduction in image quality there will be. UV filters are usually sold for protection but polarizers have a genuinely useful photographic purpose, reducing glare, surface reflections and increasing color saturation of the sky and some other surfaces as a side-effect.Good luck and I hope that helps!

Q: 5. Is it compatible with canon 70-200mm f 2.8?

A: Hi--this filter is compatible with the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM Lens.

Q: 6. Does this filter fit the canon ultra wide angle 17-40m USM?

A: The Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM lens accepts a 77mm filter. With that said, the B+W 77mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter B&H # BWUVXSP77 would be a better choice in terms of size and offers a thinner ring to prevent vignetting. Please see the image below for reference.

Q: 8. I just purchased a Canon 50mm/1.4 lens. What type and size UV protector filter would you recommend? Thanks!Michelle

A: I bought the fame filter for my Canon 58 EFS 18-55 and it fits very well. I can ever fix over my polarized circular filter.

Q: 10. hi, can I put the canon cap 24-70L after installing the filter?Thank you

A: If youre talking about lens hood then the answer is yes because I use the filter and lens hood on my 70 to 200mm canon lens all the time.

Has a very high-quality construction look. The sliver color makes it readily obvious when mounted on the lens. The fraction of a millimeter over the OD my Nikon 24-70 zoom requires a little practice to put hood on when mounted.

I have tried a few different brands of circular polarizers, and I decided to change my kit over to Tiffen HT specifically due to how clear the optics are, they're easy to clean, and the damping on how the filter turns is as smooth as the manual focus on my Zeiss lenses. Those benefits really sold me! Highly recommended!

This really is a precision piece of gear. It screws on very easily. Absolutely no color cast in my images that I can see. Works wonderful to cut glare on the water. Extremely happy with it and highly recommended. JKA

This is an excellent CP filter with a very sharp polarized reflection notch as well as minimal overall scene attenuation. Under most outdoor lighting the amount of exposure compensation required is between 1 and 1-1/3 stops. That's considerably less than many CP filters. The mounting threads are deep and clean and the gray-colored Titanium-plated aluminum rotating mount works smoothly. I've noticed absolutely no resolution loss on a EOS R5 using this filter. The mount is a little deeper than that of the B+W 72mm XS-Pro Kaesemann High Transmission Circular Polarizer, but otherwise they are quite similar in performance and optical attenuation. This should not be an issue on any lens longer than 14 mm FL. Color balance is neutral, so no significant color shifts occur. The polarized reflection blockage is very deep (many stops) but is also quite sharp, so care is needed to find exactly the best rotational position of this filter. Once found, it works amazingly well. A must-have filter for any shots over reflecting water glare or glass windows.

The skies in my photographs are true blue and the cloud details are magnificent. No reflections.

I had just purchased a new lens for my Nikon D5600 which required a 52 mm circular polarizing filter. Since I have several other Tiffen filters, I decided to stick with the same brand. I was not wrong in my choice. The filter is well made and does what it was made to do. If Tiffen is not you choice, B&H has a great selection to select from at very reasonable pricing.
