A: Yes. Apple has a migration system built into Mac OS that allows you to transfer files, apps etc. between two macs. Apple has great guide on how to do this. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204350.

Q: 6. If the Mini's SSD isn't big enough can I run everything from a big external SSD and not use the Mini's SSD at all? (I don't want to mess with having the OS one one drive and the data on another drive unless Migration Assitant will do this by default.)

A: So if the drive is not large enough you can install and Run programs off an external SSD. However, the pathways for applications to run would be linked to that external drive. Applications like migration assistant would see this as an external drive. So it would be required to reinsert drive, and then make sure all applications are pointed to the appropriate directory.

I wanted to buy a Mac Mini, but my budget was limited. I finally decided on a model with a 6-core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD. The unit was on sale at B&H for $999, a saving of $100.

The SSD size is fine--I can expand storage with the use of external SSDs, which are becoming increasingly affordable. I wanted more RAM, but that gets expensive at Apple's prices.

Then, on checkout, B&H offered me 32 GB of RAM (to replace the existing 8 GB) for $128. That looked appealing, but, klutz that I am, I was unwilling to open up my new computer and try to install the RAM myself. Then I saw that B&H would install the RAM for me for $40. And, since their techs are Apple-certified, the installation would not void my Apple warranty. I went for it.

Bottom line: I got a Mac Mini with a 6-core i5 processor, 32 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD for $1167. A Mac Mini identically preconfigured by Apple would have cost me $1699. I saved $532 (31 percent).

Just bought this to use in our office in our small business conference room. So easy to set up and so quiet. I considered getting one of those tiny windows computers but opted to spend a few hundred more on this. The ease at which Macs connect to displays and get the font size right is reason enough. It starts up incredibly fast and is very quiet. Considering I bought the cheapest mac mini I'm surprised at how fast it seems....seems fast than my $4,000 windows desktop PC.

So far so good. I upgraded the memory to 32G. It was a little tricky but it worked. You need special tools Using an external 1TB SSD to augment the storage. Using two 4K 27 monitors.

It's fast!

Most Apple products are overpriced these days, so if you want to buy a new Apple computer you're going to pay more than it's worth...except with the Mac Mini series. No, it doesn't come with a screen, but it is loaded with everything else. I got a 32gb of ram/1TB ssd drive/3.2ghz model, and if I wanted a macbook pro with the same specs I would've spent nearly double. Thus, to me, it's definitely your best bet if you want a new apple computer.

I bought the 3.2Ghz 6 core i7, 8GB, 256GB SSD. My only regret is that I didn’t spend just a bit more and get the 512GB SSD. Otherwise, this is a great replacement for my 2011 iMac. Of course, I had to buy some things like a monitor, keyboard and trackpad. The Mini came with 8GB but I upped it to 32GB. Except for graphics the Mini is a beast! It came with Mohave but I recently upgraded to Catalina Beta and it works great! Some don’ts, do not buy Apple’s keyboards, they are simply overpriced. I went for a Space Gray look and found the Space Gray Magic Trackpad 2 on eBay for less than what Apple charges and an iClever keyboard for around $30. I found a couple of 1TB SSDs for $109 each and so my main storage is SSD and as such the system is extremely quick! If you want to expand your options the Mini has 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports and 2 USB 3.0 ports. I chose the Gigabit Ethernet but a 10 Gigabit is available for $100 more. There’s also an HDMI 2.0 port and a speaker port. RAM is upgradeable but unless you have the tools and know what you’re doing you are better off letting a pro do it. Now, if you want to do gaming or graphics intense work, get an external GPU! Graphics are the weak link in the Mini but otherwise it really is a Pro level system. You would have to spend considerably more to do better. I like the small form factor but do get the most powerful CPU if you can afford it. This will help future proof your system for quite some time.

Been on the market for a new Mac Mini for a while and finally ordered this one. Maxed out the work I could on my Macbook Pro for music and video production and needed a workhorse machine. Computer does a great job handling a lot of work and it fits nicely with my limited desk space.

Excellent value if you want to run the superb macOS. Even with the 8GB DDR4 option, it's powerful. My use is for light photo editing and web development.

Loved my 2012 MacBook Pro, I really stressed over a replacement - initially ordered 2018 MB Air from B&H which arrived damaged and did re-think. It did feel like a hasty compromise when I ordered the MBA. I thought about how I used my 2012 MBP - mostly in one location and plugged into an outlet. The intrigue of the Mac Mini bit and stuck. I wanted BT 5.0 and that wasn't MADE available by Apple at the time. I liked the specs 3.0 chip, 256 GB etc and paired with Apple keyboard and mouse due to review complaints about connectivity with both devices. If there was an issue I would deliver all to the local Apple store and they could sort it out. I was really perplexed by Apple butterfly keyboard mechanism issues on their labtop line and their 4 year extended keyboard warranty from product introduction will roll around quickly. So Mac Mini with it's compromises (quiet speaker volume, no FaceTime camera or microphone) was decided and the last hurdle was finding a smaller display so I did not accidently knock it over. There are essentially 2 decent quality 14-16
