Tiffen 55mm Satin 1 Filter

Tiffen 55mm Satin 1 Filter
  • Product Code: ga18740
  • Availability: In Stock

$156.33 $198.54

The Tiffen 55mm Satin Filter can be applied to purposely reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles. This can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject while highlights are softened, contrast is reduced, and textures are given a smoother appearance. Additionally, a halation effect around highlights is created which can further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect while overall sharpness is maintained.

This filter has a grade of 1. Grades of 2 and 3 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

This filter is constructed from water white glass for increased clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Bought this to use it with a Zeiss 16-70 Sony E mount lens on an FS100 to open up the aperture a bit outdoors. I noticed no quality degradation of my images and it stopped down the light nicely. Great filter.

Excellent pola. Machining of ring is great, very smooth rotation. And of course, the great optical quality that Tiffen is know for. I have close to a 100 Tiffen motion picture filers and know the company's quality standard, which are very high. Even if you don't think it's important to buy American products, you won't find a better filter from any other manufacturer in the world.

When I first started getting into photography, everyone kept telling me that a polarizing filter would greatly benefit me, so I bought a relatively cheap one. You get what you pay for, and I would recommend anyone to spend the extra money and get a good one, like this Tiffen. It is very solidly built with a low profile, and the colors are completely neutral unlike the cheaper one I was using that adds a yellow tinge to the photos. The deep blue skies and clarity in the clouds are astounding! It adds so much depth to the composition. My only complaint with this filter is that it does not mount very easily onto my Nikon lenses. It doesn't look like it has the normal looking screw on mounting as other filters I've seen, but if you turn it enough, it eventually goes and stays put. Rotating the filter itself once it was on was rather stiff and sticky at first, but it seems to move easily now. Probably just needed to be loosened up a bit after its first use.

I found this product to be of great use. Just did a shoot where it was incredibly sunny outside. Popped the filter on and was able to get the blur that I needed. In addition, the filter is incredibly durable. Would definitely buy this filter for any future lenses.

I did comparison of with/without the filter on a bright sunny day with patchy cloud cover. The results were awesome. You get much more detail in the clouds, a rich blue sky, and no sacrifice of detail in the shadows. It actually does something to the luma curve that make it feel like the footage has been run through colour correction. I purchased this specifically for an epic documentary film I'm shooting in the snow - and have no regrets.

Great for tempering those sunny days. Screws off and on easily. No complaints.

This filter gives the effect that I expected, no problems using it with a range of lenses on a 16M pixel APS-C. It also comes in a stiff nylon pouch which I personally prefer to those plastic cases that most other filters come in. There are no blemishes that I can find on the coating or glass. The rotating ring is put together well. This is the newer ht titanium one with the titanium grey ring, don't get this one confused with tiffen's older regular polarizer which has a black ring (they seem to have the same product image here on B&H). These are of a higher quality and are also supposed to be very durable with a titanium oxide coating, although I haven't put mine through enough use to say much on that.

Tiffen delivers! This filter offers a beautiful transition of various scenes from mediocre to transcendent! The great contrast, vibrate colors, and ease of use make taking that perfect shot even easier.
