Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the Oben ACM-2400 4-Section Aluminum Monopod sturdy enough for a pair of them to be used as walking sticks as well? My wife had a knee replacement but wants to get out and hike and take photos. She has a pair of collapsible walking sticks (somewhere buried in our garage), but monopods would certainly expedite our photography if they are strong enough to serve double-duty. Thank you for sharing your experience with this monopod!

A: I would say yes as long as she needs a little help and if it's for a short distance. I can place my bracket, canon 5d m3 & 70-200 lens on top of this baby but if I push down hard enough it will lower (a lot of force). It is very sturdy. I'd recommend going on a short adventure, use them and let her test the weight of the monopod and comfort of use as a walking stick. Good Luck!

Q: 2. Is it possible to remove the legs from the bottom cap, or purchase a bottom cap without the legs?

A: The legs are stored inside the monopod and that acts as the cap for the bottom when you are not using the legs. It is best described on page 7 of the user manual: https://bhpho.to/2waKRWW

Q: 3. Three set screws underneath the collar enable you to fasten the head securely to the plate. What exactly does this refer to? How does this relate to Oben heads for example which do not show an ability to be screwed to the plate other than with the main reversible mounting screw?

A: All of the ball heads will screw onto the tripod center column plate and are snugged down by hand. On some tripods, under the center column plate are three set screws that when run in from underneath will contact the underside of the ball head. This helps keep the ball head from unscrewing when panning back and forth over time. Hope this helps, Kirk

Q: 4. Hi,I'm thinking of buying the OBEN ACM-2400L along with 'Manfrotto 498RC2 Midi Ball Head with 200PL-14 QR Plate'. Are they compatible to one another? Manfrotto monopod with self-standing legs is a bit too long for my liking (31' with ball head)

A: Yes. The 498RC2 Ball Head will work on the Oben ACM-2400L. Since the monopod has both a 1/4-20 and 3/8 compatible male thread, any standard head will work.

Q: 5. Is this a thicker, more heavy duty type monopod or a skinny lightweight version?

A: I will admit to not using a monopod much, I got this one as part of a package deal. However, this monopod is quite sturdy and the leg clamps on it are tight and secure against slippage. There is no side-to-side wobbling in any of the sections and the sections are reasonably thick - actually thicker than the legs on my tripod.

Q: 6. Hello. I have the ACM2400 right now. Could I just purchase the 3 x feet assembly to make it ACM2400L? Or do I have to buy the ACM2400L to have the feet assembly?

A: You need to buy the acm2400L

Q: 7. Which is the better ballhead for the Oben ACM-2400 monopod, the Oben BE117 or BE117T?

A: We would recommend the Oben BE117

Q: 8. Which would be the better ballhead to use with this monopod, the Oben BE117 or BE117T?

A: We would suggest the BE117T to use with this monopod.

Q: 9. Is anyone using this with a newer Sony Handycam Camcorder or similar? I am going to be using this with my brand new HDR-PJ670. I can see this as being a great replacement for a bulky tri-pod.

A: You still need to brace yourself with this even with the legs out and it would be necessary to purchase a ball head or pistol grip head to adjust for uneven surfaces to get a level. The legs on the tripod don't allow for you to adjust for horz/vert uneven ness in the ground the monopod is standing on.I can ajdust by grabbing railing, chairs or other surfaces to compensate but a pistol grip like Sliks would work much better.

Q: 10. How much does the ACM-2400L 4-Section ...self standing Monopod weigh?

A: That monopod weighs 2.5 lb (1.13 kg)

This is a great monopod. It looks and feels very sturdy, but is also lightweight enough that it is not tired to use or carry around with you. The head seems nice, but I have not used it yet.

I wanted something simple that I could easily take almost anywhere. This monopod fits the bill. Added an Oben Qra-R2 quick release assembly with extra mounting plates and I'm good to go. While not entirely effortless, this device does provide some additional stabilization so you can clean up those shaky videos. Add a cell phone attachment and shoot almost like a pro.

I haven't really had a chance to use it much but looks to be fairly sturdy. It does make it easier to steady the camera than hand holding and sets up much faster than the tripod. May use it as a hiking stick also.
