Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the length of the exposed bolt after the swivel bearings and hold down nut are installed?

A: When the Glide Gear Dolly Track Swivel Wheel Assembly is fully assembled, The bolt and swivel bearings are no longer visible.

Q: 2. Is the screw size 1/4inch or 3/8inch?

A: According to the manufacture the Glide Gear Dolly Track Swivel Wheel Assembly uses a 3/8"-16 screw.

Q: 3. What transport case is recommended for these since the legs don't detach?

A: C stands with permanent legs not a turtle base are an issue for travel. The stand is about about 53 inches x 22 inches. B&H does not carry a case that large. The C stands with legs that come off are much smaller in the width. Those types give you some case options.

Q: 4. Will this fit the Manfrotto 114mvb tripod? I do not see a through-hole on the flat bar for the wheel bolt. I can replace the bolt with the correct pitch and thread if needed. I need to know if this item is compatible with my tripod.

A: It should work. It comes with a 12mm bolt that you can remove.I have the Kessler K-pod tripod which has 3/8 and 1/2-inch tapped. So I just replaced the 12mm with a 3/8 and it works fine. The bolt feeds through the bottom of the triangular plate and is easily tightened with a deep socket wrench. It's a great buy and I'm buying more to make a large dolly platform with. You won't be disappointed!

Q: 5. What is the circumference around the bottom when folded up?

A: When folded the Impact Monitor Stand (Chrome) BH #IMMONSTAND is about 31.9 x 13.9 x 13".

Q: 6. What kind of wrench can I take off the stock wheels and put these on? A regular wrench is too thick.

A: Echoing the previous response, it looks like a small channel lock or pliers would get the job done.

Q: 7. What size track work best for these wheels? What are the wheel dimensions? DO these wheels work well with PVC pipe? There is no information about these wheels published at this point on the B&H website, only a few photos. More information would be helpful.

A: These wheels are meant to be used on the movie industry standard size for dolly track pipe which is 1 1/2 . I imagine they will be fine on pipe anywhere from 1 to 1 3/4 . The wheel diameter of these Glide Gear I would say is approximately 2 . They are made of a very hard rubber-like material. They should work fine on PVC as well as stainless or chrome dolly track. I will alert the B&H Webteam to get more information from Glide Gear.

Q: 8. IS this safe for a doorway dolly that would hold an operator too?

A: I would think so. You basically have 16 skateboard wheels underneath fitted to sturdy metal triangular frames, so that should be okay. It will depend more on your dolly surface. One more thing: the bolts are metric unfortunately (M-10); the Allen head bolt requires a 9-mm Allen wrench that are very hard to find. I replaced mine with 3/8th-16 bolts, the little bearings work fine with them!

Q: 9. Will the QRA-501L fit the Manfrotto ball head on a 055xB tripod. And does the assembly come as bottom tripod plate and a quick connection to camera or accessory? I need more stable platform to hold 22#.

A: What you see is what you get. There is a bottom plate with screw holes to accommodate any tripod quick release plate. Then the QRA-501L's own quick release plate that you attach to the bottom of the camera slips right into bottom plate. Once mounted, be sure to clamp the plate with the ratcheted lever. If the lever is blocked by the camera body and cannot tighten, pull the lever out and move it into a good position, push in and then tighten. Do this as much as needed, usually no more than 1-2 twists.

Q: 10. $22,000 is a deep investment. Why is it better than the rest? And how close can it view the surface of the moon or other celestial bodies

A: It is a unique item with the best accessories on the market. The astroimaging camera alone is over $4,000. It still requires a mount and tripod.
