The Lectrosonics DBu is a digital bodypack wireless transmitter compatible with D-Squared Series receivers. Powered by 4th generation Lectrosonics digital technology, it includes high-efficiency circuitry specially developed for extended operating time on two AA batteries, and offers RF power selections at 25 and 50mW. The pure digital architecture enables AES 256-CTR encryption for applications requiring high-level security.

The DBu features a standard Lectrosonics TA5M connector with a servo-bias input compatible with a wide range of lavalier and headset mics, dynamic mics, and line-level sources. The unit employs high-quality components in the preamp, a broad range of input-gain adjustment, and DSP-controlled analog limiting to deliver studio-quality audio at a 24-bit/48 kHz resolution.

The switch on the top panel can be configured for use as a mute or power switch, or for talkback communication with the production crew; it can also be disabled to prevent accidents. The DBu's housing is constructed of solid machined aluminum with an ultra-hard, black electroless nickel exterior finish for lasting performance.

  • The DBu input preamp features a unique servo-bias design that delivers audible improvements over conventional transmitter inputs, making the unit easier to use and much harder to overload.
  • The input gain is adjustable over a 44 dB range in 1 dB steps, allowing for an exact match to the input signal level, while maximizing the dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio.
  • The transmitter employs a digitally controlled analog audio limiter prior to the A/D converter. The limiter has a range greater than 30 dB for excellent overload protection. A dual-release envelope makes the limiter acoustically transparent while maintaining low distortion.

  • The DBu tunes in coarse or fine steps across the entire 138 MHz UHF frequency range, from 470 to 608 MHz.

  • Standard: This is the highest level of security.
  • Shared: The encryption key can be shared by the transmitter with other transmitters/receivers via the IR port.
  • Universal: This is the most convenient encryption option.

  • Setup and adjustments are enabled through a backlit LCD, membrane switches, and an intuitive menu structure.
  • The IR Sync port lets you transfer the frequency settings from the receiver to the transmitter for quick setup.
  • The top panel contains the antenna jack, audio-input-level LEDs, the programmable function switch, and the audio-input jack.
  • LEDs provide red/green indications of the audio level from -20 dB to the onset of limiting, enabling accurate input-gain adjustment.

  • The transmitter is supplied with a stainless, spring-wire belt clip that remains secure, but which can be easily detached and re-attached without tools.
  • A BCSLEBN spring-loaded belt clip is available as an option.
  • The battery door latches securely to prevent it being opened inadvertently and does not pop open even if the unit is dropped.

  • The LectroRM app (available separately) is a mobile application that lets you remotely control the DBu. It allows you to change the audio level, frequency, and lock mode wirelessly. The app is available for iOS and Android operating systems.

  • Operates for up to 5 hours on two AA batteries
  • Removable antenna with SMA connector
  • Settings can be locked to prevent inadvertent changes from being made. When the unit is locked, the programmable switch continues to operate
  • Firmware updates are made via the USB port on the side panel. The procedure is simple, using a menu item on the transmitter and a standard micro-USB cable

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this unit be powered by the USB port?

A: Yes, the Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver can run on USB power.

Q: 2. What does this mean: "Note: While this system includes two transmitters, only one can be used at a time". So I can't use both mics on separate receivers? Would like to plug into my zoom h6 and have both mics on separate channels. This sounds like I can only use 1 mic and 1 receiver at a time from the description. Is that correct?

A: The Sennheiser EW 500 G4 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System Kit includes two separate wireless mic systems that can be used simultaneously. The first system is the Sennheiser EW 500 FILM G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System includes two transmitters - the SK 500 G4 Wireless Bodypack Transmitter and the SKP 500 G4 Wireless Plug-On Transmitter. This system gives you the option of using either the bodypack transmitter and lavalier mic or the plug-on transmitter with a handheld or shotgun style mic. The note you saw refers to the transmitters included with the EW 500 since only one transmitter can be used at a time with the system's EK 500 G4 Wireless Receiver. The second system included in the kit is the Sennheiser EW 512P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System which has a single SK 500 G4 Bodypack Transmitter and lavalier mic along with the EK 500 G4 Receiver. The Kopul CMCS-1 Passive 3.5mm Microphone Combiner/Splitter is included in the kit to join the two receivers so that the audio from both receivers can be combined into a single signal when using a device with a single mic input like a DSLR camera. When using a device like the Zoom H6 Handy Recorder, you can connect each of the receivers to separate input channels.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with the Sony DWT-B01 Digital Wireless transmitters?

A: No, components from Sony's UWP-D line such as the Sony URX-S03D UWP-D Dual-Channel Slot-In Wireless Receiver are not compatible for use with components from Sony's DWX line such as the Sony DWT-B01 Digital Wireless Bodypack Transmitter.

Q: 4. Would this lavalier mic work in europe? italy?

A: The wireless systems that are sold by B&H are intended for use in North America without a license. The FCC regulations vary in different countries, so a license may be required. The A1: 470 to 516 MHz, A: 516 to 558 MHz, and G: 566 to 608 MHz frequency bands for the Sennheiser EW 112P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System are all able to be used in Italy, however, a license is required. As additional options for a Sennheiser wireless system that you can use in Italy without a license, you may want to consider the Sennheiser AVX-ME2 SET Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System (B&H #SEAVXME2SET4) or the Sennheiser XSW-D LAVALIER SET Digital Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System (B&H # SEWXSLSTR). The AVX system operates on the 1.9 GHz frequency band and includes a plug-in receiver which can be connected to a 3.5mm mic input using the included XLR to 3.5mm cable. The XSW-D system operates on the 2.4 GHz frequency band and can also be used with an XLR female to 3.5mm cable to connect to a 3.5mm mic input. Both systems include the Sennheiser ME 2 II Lavalier Microphone, which is the same microphone that is included with the EW 112P G4 system.

Q: 5. Can the EW 500 receiver XLR be connected to a mixer rather than camera?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser EK 500 G4 Pro Wireless Camera-Mount Receiver from the Sennheiser EW 500 FILM G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System can be connected to the XLR input on a mixer, rather than being connected to a camera. You can use the Sennheiser CL-500 Balanced Cable for use with Sennheiser EK500 Receiver 1/8"-Male Mini Jack to XLR-Male Connector (B&H # SECL500), which comes included in the package with the EK 500 Receiver.

Q: 6. Does the URX-P41D provide a stereo digital Mi connection with a FX30 camera when used in conjunction with the SMAD-P30 adaptor?

A: Yes, the Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver can send stereo audio into the MI shoe of a Sony camera, but the adapter you would need is the SMAD-P5.

Q: 7. Of the DCHR compatible transmitters; D² Series/DPR/DCHT/M2T; can you use any 2 of those simultaneously with the DCHR receiver?

A: Yes, two compatible transmitters can be used simultaneously with the Lectrosonics DCHR Camera-Mount Miniature Digital Camera Hop Wireless Receiver.

Q: 8. Which batteries last the longest in these?

A: Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA Batteries (BH #ENAALU8) would be a good choice for the Sony UWP-D27 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System.

Q: 9. Is the DCHR receiver compatible with the Lectrosonics LRSHOE Receiver Mount on the Sony FX6 camera?

A: Yes, the DCHR can be camera mounted using the optional LRSHOE accessory. The Sony FX6 camera has a coldshoe bracket on top of the handle; the shoe adapter can attach to it.

Q: 10. I am interested in purchasing this wireless microphone but am unsure what frequency to purchase. I live in Los Angeles, is there a preferred frequency for my region of the USA?

A: Because the Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver offers the ability to auto-scan it's 2,772 potential frequencies, it should allow you to find an open channel in virtually all areas in any of the three available bands. Frequency availability across bands could also change depending on your location within the greater Los Angeles area. In general, it appears that the UC14: 470 to 542 MHz band may offer the most access to open channels in Los Angeles out of the three available frequency bands.
