Q: 3. Will this fit my EF 80-200 f/2.8L (1989)? If not, which tripod mount ring would?

Q: 5. Has anyone compared this to the BH-30 with the compact lever-release clamp?

A: I have. I have both the full size and compact lever release clamps. Both are excellent. The full size is on my BH-50 (large head) and the compact clamp I got when I wanted a smaller ball head for travel. I tossed and turned on both clamps for a while, but very happy I went with the compact for the BH-30. For me, it made no sense to get the lager one when my aim was to reduce wait and be as compact as possible. It holds my 6D with 70-300L perfectly and I really don't miss the larger clamp.

Q: 6. Can this work on an 055XB Manfrotto Tripod?

A: This will be compatible with the 055XB.

Q: 7. The BH-30 doesnt have the ball tension adjustment. Has this been a problem?

A: No, not having a ball tension adjustment option has not been an issue with the Really Right Stuff BH-30 Ball Head with Full-Size Lever-Release Clamp, B&H # REBH30LRII. Really Right Stuff offers a wide range of ball heads, some with ball tension adjustment options, and some without the ball tension adjustment feature. If you require ball tension adjustment, I would recommend purchasing the Really Right Stuff BH-40 Ball Head with Full-Size Lever-Release Clamp, B&H # REBH40LRII, for your usage needs.

Q: 8. The product photos all show a bubble level, but the specs say bubble levels none. If I order this, will it have a bubble level or not?

A: The full size lever release clamp will feature a bubble-level while the compact lever release clamp does not.

Q: 9. Does this ball head allow to put the camera in a vertical position and tilt the camera up and down?

A: Yes, you can maneuver the head in any position.

Q: 10. Can this be used with the base plate that works with the BH-55 head? I am considering the BH-30 to use on a travel tripod.

A: Yes the same base plate will work for both!

Shipment from B&H was on time as estimated, and it came in a secure box. Thanks for the service. I tried the Ball Head out and totally satisfied with its feature of lever release. In fact, this ball head is my best one as I feel very secure of its clamp's grabbing. Highly recommended!

I owned and used a BH-55 for years and loved it. I have since gone mirror less with an Olympus micro 4/3 and no longer needed my heavy tripod and head so I went lighter. The BH-30 is pricey but is of the same quality as it's larger brother. I'm not sorry for having purchased it.

Too many close calls with my camera falling out of a cheap ball head so I splurged on a RRS head with lever-release clamp so I will KNOW that the head is securely attached. I debated getting the BH-40 with drag resistance but I opted for the smaller BH-30 because often times less is more. The clamp is stronger more precise than I had hoped. It is compatible with Hejnar, Benro, etc. QR plates as well as with Sunwayfoto and Kirk L-brackets. And it supports a Nikon D810 with 70-200mm even when tilted in portrait mode. Absolutely no regrets.

Took this up for some astrophotography in the Northern Sierra Nevadas last weekend. This thing is simple to use in the dark, FIRM, no-creep hold in any position, and the clamp release is just a dream to use. And it's built SOLID. Buy this, and you will probably never need another ball head in your lifetime. It's that good... don't think twice, just buy it. As they say, buy mediocre quality twice, or buy the best quality once.

Small and mighty!
Holds a Nikon D810 with a 28-300mm lens just fine, rock solid!

There's nothing like RRS ball heads. I purchased the Gitzo traveler Tripod with the Gitzo head...it was a no go for me. I have been spoiled by my RRS BH-55 for my other Gitzo. It's just the ease of use for me. This is perfect for my lighter setups.

This stuff is properly named. It is just right. This Ball Head is perfect for my needs. Landscape with Canon R5 and any of my Wide Lenses.

Haven't tried it yet with Large Telephoto, but, I have other rigs for that.
Love the ease and paired with the L clamp for the camera, it does the job.
