Well-suited for portraiture, the MK-85mm f/1.8 Lens from Meike is a short-telephoto prime designed for Canon EF-mount cameras. Pairing well with the short telephoto focal length is a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture that benefits working in low-light as well as affords greater control over depth of field for selective focus control. An AF/MF switch on the lens barrel permits quick switching between focusing methods, and the lens can focus as closely as 2.8' to suit photographing nearby subjects.

Ideal portrait-length prime is designed for full-frame format Canon EF-mount cameras, however this lens can also be used with APS-C-format models where it will provide a 136mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture offers increased control over depth of field and also benefits working in a variety of lighting conditions.

Multi-layer nano coating has been applied in order to suppress ghosting and flare for increased contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.

An AF/MF switch on the lens barrel allows you to select focusing methods, with either setting allowing you to focus as closely as 2.8' away.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens work with a Canon RP?

A: The Meike MK-35mm f/1.7 Lens for Canon EF-M is for cameras with a cropped sensor that uses EF-M lenses. The Canon EOS RP camera has a full frame sensor and uses EF-R lenses. So the lens is not compatible.

Q: 2. Will this work on my full frame a7ii?

A: Yes, this is compatible with the Sony A7II. This lens is made for APS-C format so the focal length will be 52.5mm on the Sony A7II.

Q: 3. How does this lens handle low-light sports action? I am specifically thinking about getting it for swim team action pictures.

A: This lens is geared for portraiture. It would not work well for shooting multiple lanes at a swim meet. In low light, especially indoor, you would have to open up the aperture. You would lose sharpness in your fore or back ground. Fixed focal length. Only your subject would be in sharp focus, and you might not have the reach (you want) for shots across the pool. This is a great lens, but not for your intended use.

Q: 4. Hi, will this lens work with a Canon 70D (cropped sensor)?

A: absolutely. will need to adjust your framing horizontally though but once you get used to it you'll find this lens is your best friend for portrait photography. Visit MyronMcClurePhotography to see what it looks like. about 75% of the pics I used this lens. Good luck

Q: 5. Will this work with my Canon 90D?

A: The Meike MK-35mm f/1.7 Lens for Canon EF-M is not compatible with the Canon 90D. This lens is for Canon M series mirrorless cameras.

Q: 6. Is it compartible with the bmpcc6k?

A: Yes this would be compatible with the Black Magic Pocket Cinema 6k.

Q: 7. Will this communicate with the camera or can it only be manually operated?

A: This is a fully manual lens. Both the focus and aperture are controlled on the lens only.

Q: 8. Will this work with the 2000D (T7) canon camera?

A: Yes, the Meike MK-85mm f/1.8 Lens for Canon EF is compatible with the Canon T7 camera.

Q: 9. Poor auto focus performance. I received this lens on Tuesday and find poor AF performance with both my Canon 7D Mk ii, and my Canon 6D. I do not get an acceptable image until I stop it down to f5.6. I can, however get a sharp image all the way down to f1.8 by manually focusing using magnified live view. Did I get a defective lens?

A: Please email us at photo@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a for in depth assistance with your inquiry.

Q: 10. Is compatible with canon M50?

A: With an adapter it can be. This is for the DSLR cameras.

I bought this to tackle kid recitals, shows and sports (indoors). This lens lives up to the great reviews for it. Focus is decent, but the low-light and brokeh is where this lens shines. Even at 1.8 it is pretty sharp, but at 2.2 or higher (on my copy it is really sharp).

I bought this lens because I wanted a faster lens for portraits and sports. It is compact is size, fast , and produces really clear shots. I have no complaints after using it for about two weeks.

A smaller version of its big brother the 85 1.2L the 85 1.8 is less expensive, smaller, lighter, as sharp and faster focusing than the 1.2L. This lens has great bokeh, color, shallow DOF at 1.8 allowing for precise focusing and isolation of details. This lens is often overlooked and is one of the best lenses for the money a must have for many lens lineups.

I was worried there would be an obvious quality difference between this my my L lenses. I honestly can't tell the difference. All pictures I take are as sharp as you can get. I LOVE the depth of field on this thing. I used to shoot all my portraits with a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens, but have switched to using this. Also, at 85mm (especially shooting with my 40D) there's no lens distortion and the image has a nice compressed look. Last but not least, it's lightweight....much easier to handle than the 70-200.
