Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is a dry cabinet like this appropriate for preventing condensation forming on gear that I've used for hours in below freezing weather - like chasing auroras or other astrophotography in subfreezing temperatures for hours?

A: The Ruggard Electronic Dry Cabinet would not work for your stated usage needs. It is designed to protect your equipment from dust, dirt, and moisture and to regulate the interior's relative humidity to help prevent fungus and corrosion from damaging your gear, and it is designed for indoor storage usage. Condensation or frost is caused by the combination of indoor/outdoor temperature differences, indoor/outdoor humidity differences, and the dew point. Your issue would be moving your equipment from outdoor freezing conditions into the warmer indoor conditions inside the cabinet would still run the risk of condensation/frost if you take your equipment out of the case you used to transport the equipment indoors. The rapid temperature difference and dew point is the cause of condensation/frost. If you will place your wrapped equipment inside a case that you had with you in the freezing conditions, and keep your camera equipment INSIDE the case and place it inside the Ruggard Electronic Dry Cabinet, then allowing time for the temperature inside the case to warm up slowly without opening it, then this would work and would regulate the humidity inside the cabinet. I would still recommend waiting approximately 12 hours so the temperatures can equalize before exposing your camera to the warmer air.

Q: 2. Can I stack another one on top? Any vibration from the cabinet?

A: Yes, No vibration of any kind from unit.

Q: 3. Is the 120L large enough to store a canon 5dmk4 with a canon 70-200mm lens attached?

A: Easy! I own the 80L and hold 2- 7d's with 70-200 and 100-400 attached, plus a few of my older lenses and bodies. And yes, battery grips on both too!

Q: 4. A dehumifier works by condensing moisture out of the air. What happens to condensed water in the Ruggard dry cabinet?

A: It uses a Peltier thermoelectric module (solid-state cooling device). The cold-plate is on the inside of the cabinet, the hot-plate is on the outside which uses natural convection to cool the plate (thus, quiet operation). Condensate on the cold-plate is wicked outside of the cabinet where it evaporates.

Q: 5. How sturdy is the cabinet, can I store stuff on top of this? Any specification on what's the max load cabinet top can handle? I have limited real estate, so I tend to stack stuff vertically alot.

A: The top of the Ruggard Electronic Dry Cabinet (80L) is not designed for load bearing, and there have been no tests done to find a load capacity for the top of the cabinet. If you wish, you may try placing a 1/2-inch to a 3/4-inch piece of plywood on top of the unit to disperse or spread out the load of items placed on top of the cabinet, but we have no load capacity specifications for the top of the cabinet.

Q: 6. Is it ok to store in the cabinet my camara lens inside their soft cases and pouches or will I negatively affect the moisture protection provided by the cabinet?

A: You can store the lenses in their cases, but it is not necessary when using this cabinet.

Q: 7. Can this run on 12 volt DC? If so, do you think I could keep this on a 38 foot sailboat without draining my batteries?

A: Unfortunately, the EDC-50L cannot run on 12 volt DC.

Q: 8. Is the door reversible, right hand or left hand open?

A: No, right hand open only.

Q: 9. what temp should i keep it at?

A: You cannot control the temperature inside the Ruggard Electronic Dry Cabinet (30L), B&H # RUEDC30L. The unit simply allows the unit to display the current temperature in either Fahrenheit or Celcius, but you cannot control the temperature. The instruction manual comes with a guide for recommended ranges of humidity depending on the type of items you plan to store inside the cabinet. While you cannot control temperature, you can control the cabinet's humidity level.

Q: 10. does the screen on the unit turn on/illuminate once you plug it in or is there an actual on/off power button? I plugged the unit into the outlet properly but the display did not illuminate so I'm thinking that I received a defective product.

A: Your Ruggard EDC-80L dry cabinet should work fully out of the box. There is no on/off switch and the unit should power up once it is plugged in. We would recommend contacting the manufacturer at info@gradusgroup.com for assistance in troubleshooting this issue.

Thanks to B&H for sending a Nitecore Tube V2.0 as a bonus gift with my recent purchase for a Maglite flashlight. Thanks because that probably ended my search for a basic no-frills flashlight in these days of hi-tech light furnaces that spew hair raising LED beams and throw gobs of heat, lots of them even provided by Nitecore.
I was trying to find another flashlight equal to my Led Lenser purchased several years ago. It is the only flashlight I have ever owned that still has a working on/off button after several years of use. Obviously other considerations are now more important and they broke the mold on one of the most durable flashlights ever made. I've been looking but can't find another one, but this TUBE V2.0 will light up a dark path and won't blind anyone. It has one button and initiates in low beam. Hold the button and it goes into 55 lumens high beam. Push it again to turn it off. It can do other things too, like preventing it to operate to conserve battery.
It's the only rechargeable key chain light I have ever seen, and that in itself is simply great. When the button wears out, buying another is an inexpensive investment, and it might even prevent an injury when traversing an area that's too dark to see any hazards.

Compact, slim and light weight, it's the only flashlight I've ever considered attaching to my automobile and house key ring. The 2 levels of illumination are useful, low for visualizing the door lock at night and very bright for greater distances. Micro-USB rechargeable. I wasn't looking for such a flashlight, just happened to see it on a page with another item, ordered it out of curiosity and am glad I did.

Perfect for travelers who love to shoot. Charging two batteries at the same time is genius!

I received this as part of buying a Nitecore Charger.

However, if anyone thinks that this little flashlight has no purpose/use then this person is dead wrong.

It is quite useful to have attached to your keys regardless if you paid for it or received as part of another purchase.

Today my keys fell down on the stone floor. THIS LITTLE SUCKER IS STILL WORKING!!!

I've received it as a bundle with the Nitecore MH25GT flashlight.
It's quite powerful for its small size and lasts for a long time between charges.
