Q: 1. should I level the tripod before balancing the gimbal? I have this question because I am going to use SK-100 with a ball head on top of the skyguider pro. Thus, there is always an angle and the sk-100-ballhead combo cannot be leveled all time. Not sure in this case will a gimble is still usable.

A: Yes, always level the tripod.

Q: 2. Will this work on Benro B5 ball Head??

A: Yes, it is compatible with the Benro B5 head.

Q: 3. Hi, will this sidekick work with the Sirui K-30X ball head?

A: It will! Per Wimberley, it will work well even on the smaller and lighter K-20x. I contacted them directly about using the Sidekick with the K-20x, a Canon 7Dii w/grip, and a Canon 100-400ii. Their response: Yes, the Sirui K-20x is an excellent choice for use our Sidekick and your listed equipment.

Q: 4. can you safely walk around with the camera on the sidekick attached to the tripod?

A: In the past I have carried my D750 and 80-400 lens over my shoulder with no problem. Always tightened all knobs carefully before carrying. Had a stranger tell me my camera/lens seemed to be wobbly as he passed me, sure enough, I think if I had walked another 100 feet it would have fallen. I was sure I had tightened all knobs! Do I carry the combination over my shoulder anymore? A big resounding NO!

Q: 5. Can it be used with a monopod?

A: I have actually used this combination at many professional sporting events. I use the tilt of the Sidekick, but lock the pan base down and turn the monopod to get the side to side motion I need. Doing it that way, makes it a little less unwieldy.

Q: 6. are any adapters needed for the nikon 200-500mm f/5.6?

A: You will need an Arca Swiss style mounting plate.

Q: 7. My ball head is an Induro BHL3. Camera is D810 and lens Nikon 80-400mm Will the Wimberly Sidekick work without further adaptation?

A: As long as the tripod head has an Arca type quick release clamp, it should work. You simply lay the clamp over (as if shooting a vertical photo), and slide the sidekick into the clamp. The quick release plate on the lens will have to be long enough to slide the camera/lens combination forward or back to balance it correctly. When properly balanced, the camera/lens combination should be able to move easily when the knob is slightly tightened, and not fall front or backward.

Q: 8. What if my ballhead detent goes past 90 degrees, say 100 degrees?

A: If your head goes past 90 degrees, then adjust it to 90, it should lock position without going into the slot.

Q: 9. Will this work with an Oben BE-117T ball head?

A: It will work but I would recommend a head with a higher load capacity like the Oben BC139. You can click on the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/2VxQusi

Q: 10. Will this system work with my KIRK BH-3 ball head....and my canon 500 f4 L lens..? also what plate do I need on the lens .. a P 40 or P 50 quick release plate?

A: I have used it on a Gitzo tripod with a Canon 600mm f4 and it was fine. I would not recommend carrying this combo on the shoulder as an assembly however.

Preparing for a trip to Yellowstone. I purchased a 70-400G for my Sony 850. Using a ballhead was a little troublesome, and don't use a long lens enough to justify the purchase a full gimbal head. Was expecting a half-solution for the less than half-priced sidekick, but was amazed. It worked as advertised and much better than I expected. Once the ball is locked down, the pan friction set, the camera/lens balanced in the sidekick, and the friction set on the sidekick, you can track birds or moving animals with ease. Keeper percentage was much better than I expected.

Great to hold my Canon 300mm 2.8L lens with 2x converter. I use it for birds and large mammals
