The 12mm T3.1 ED AS IF NCS UMC Cine DS Fisheye Lens for Nikon F Mount from Rokinon is a lens optimized for digital cinematography and as such provides a de-clicked manual aperture for smooth and silent adjustment and unified focus and aperture gears for use with follow focus accessories. Also, focus, aperture, and depth of field markings are on the side of the lens to aid focus pullers who typically operate on the side of the camera. Aperture is measured in absolute T-stops to provide accurate and consistent exposure across lenses and color rendition is matched with other Rokinon cine lenses for consistency.

This fisheye lens provides a 180º diagonal angle of view on full-frame cameras for an ultra-wide angle, distorted perspective that is useful for architectural interiors, landscapes and creative experimentation in any application. The T3.1 maximum aperture is effective in low light situations and enables some measure of shallow depth of field control.

The lens' optical design consists of 12 lens elements arranged in 8 groups including three elements made of low dispersion ED glass and two aspherical lens elements to minimize coma and chromatic aberrations. Highly effective nano crystal anti-reflection (NCS) coating applied together with UMC coatings improve light transmission and reduce ghosting. Its internal focus system does not extend the front elements during focus and minimizes the effects of lens breathing.

This Nikon F Mount manual focus lens optimized for digital cinema provides a de-clicked manual aperture for smooth and silent adjustment and unified focus and aperture gears for use with a traditional follow focus.

An ultra wide-angle fisheye lens with a 12mm focal length on full-frame cameras and an 18mm equivalency when used on APS-C and Super 35mm format cameras. Its distorted perspective is useful for interiors, landscapes, group shots and many creative wide-angle applications.

Extra low dispersion and aspherical lens elements reduce aberrations for sharp, color-accurate imaging.

Nano crystal coating and ultra multi-coating on the lens elements improves light transmission and reduces ghosting and flare.

Sturdy metal barrel with removable petal-shaped lens hood.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this the same as the Samyang model? If not, what is the difference?

A: In general Samyang and Rokinon are the same if both lenses list exact same specs, but we do not have a Samyang with T stop and gears for follow focus at this focal length and mount. The most similar Samyang is only F stop and no outside gears for follow focus.

Q: 2. I hear this lens is sharper and has less chromatic aberration than the 2.0 version. I will be using it on the a6000...but does that really matter. I just want the sharpest picture possible. I am aware of the crop factor, but is there anything else i should know about. Any help on this would be amazing. Lenses are expensive so im just trying to make the best possible choice!?

A: I sold my Rokinon 8mm f2.8 fisheye after a year of use to buy this 12mm full frame Version. I am Much happier with the 12mm f2.8 on my A6000. It's quite a bit larger but the trade off is the photos are over the top better without a doubt.

Q: 3. How does it compare to theRokinon 12mm f/2.8 ED AS fullframe Fisheye Lens (https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1089938-REG/rokinon_12m_e_12mm_f_2_8_ed_as.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1089938-REG/rokinon_12m_e_12mm_f_2_8_ed_as.html/a - wich I have in canon-mount version, a very good copy and that I use very, very often) but consider to change for the E-mont version. -Exept I now see ths new other one.(T3.1 might be the same as f2.8).I have not found any comparison study jet. THANK YOU !I shoot at 5.6/8 with my actual lens, max app is not my concern but corner-sharpness and rendition of people. Fully correctet anty-fisheye effect lenses do not render people as I like with my Rokinon 12mm 2.8)?

A: The more expensive cine lens has the Dual Side markings, focus and aperture gears plus the coatings that are supposed to match the others in the set. Otherwise the lens performance will be comparable.

Q: 4. Is the lens hood removable or fixed?

A: It is fixed. And don't lose the lens cap because you will never find a replacement!

Q: 5. May I use these lens for video too.(Rokinon 12mm f/12 fisheye sony E mount ) ?

A: Absolutely, any photo lens can be used for video, basically.

Q: 6. Will this work the D5500 model?

A: It may work, but, your camera is a DX format. My D810 has a FX size sensor. This lens might be better for you, and its cheaper :) a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/886555-REG/Rokinon_hd8m_n_8mm_f_3_5_HD_Fisheye.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/886555-REG/Rokinon_hd8m_n_8mm_f_3_5_HD_Fisheye.html/a

Q: 7. auto or manual focus?

A: Manual focus but with such a wide angle most subjects are in focus unless youre really trying to spot- focus within the frame

Q: 8. doesn this lens has a removable lens hood ? if it's fixed does it affect the picture negatively on FullFrame bodies ?

A: Hi! the lens hood is removable and has no negative effect on FF bodies!!! by the way, this is on my top 3 favorite lenses.

Q: 9. Hi There,Does anyone know of a good MATTE BOX solution for the Rokinon 12mm Cine DS Fisheye Lens?(I know typically with wide angle lenses, they run into vignetting problems if the Matte Box isn't wide enough.)Does anyone know of a good Matte Box that works great with this lens?Additionally, do you know if that same Matte Box will also work for the Rokinon Cine DS 14mm Lens?In advance, thank you for your help and for your recommendations. I really appreciate it!

A: This lens is too wide to be used with a matte box without any vignetting.

Q: 10. does this lens fit to work with the SONY A7?

A: There's several manufacturer specific models. Yes it fits the Sony A7R and A7R II without additional adapter. By the way its a wonderful lens. There's several articles out on using the files in post production adjustment -S

This lens is a ton of fun at a really great price. Some of the other reviews mentioned that this lens is perfect for those who are used to shooting in manual mode and I couldn't agree more. That being said, I wouldn't let that discourage anyone looking for a fisheye lens to not buy this one. Just keep shooting and you'll get the hang of it!

Great sharp lens with very wide aperture able to give a blurry background. The fact that its manual is not a problem. However it can get a bit hard to tell if you are in focus or not if the subject is smaller and not to far but neither close. Excellent build quality!

I'm loving this lens! If you google this lens you will see many very favorable comparisons to other more expensive fish eye lenses. As a hobbyist it brings out the creative and makes seemingly mundane subjects unique and interesting.

I enjoy shooting with this lens, landscape and macro. It doesn't pass EXIF data to the camera. But pictures are OK.

I was skeptical about this lens. I had purchased a 14mm Rokinon, but that really didn't do much for me - was a bit soft, even for value lens and I thought maybe focus was a touch off from the indicator, but couldn't tell given softness. Thanks to B&H's AWESOME return policy, I returned the 14mm after just a couple days. Bought Nikon 16-35 from B&H and am very happy with that for wide angle shots. However, I kept thinking a fisheye would be fun ... Very happy I gave Rokinon a second try with this lens. This lens, at least my copy, is very sharp in center. Even more so than I expected at 2.8. Most of what I've done with it has subject/focus at center, so can't say I've had problems with edges ... this is a fisheye, I guess I expected heavy distortion at the edges. I have noticed only minimal CA. The lens focuses closer than I expected - am really having fun experimenting with fisheye closeups! I spent a couple decades with manual focus, so that didn't bother me. Contrary to what some people think, it is possible to focus a lens yourself gasp!!... and as bonus, at least on my copy, the focus indicator is dead-on. No problems with color casts on my lens. My D750 meters well with it, so no complaints there - but I shoot full Manual, spot metering thinking, then take a couple exposures to cover things ... again, from my days shooting positives. Only down side I've found: Ergonomics. Given size/configuration of lens and lack of lock like Nikon, sometimes I bump it off F22 when mounting/unmounting lens, resulting in an error. First time it threw me, but once I realized the cause, when I get error, just adjust ring. In summary, this is first non-Nikon lens I've bought in a long, long time. For the price, optical quality, ease of focus, integration with camera (for manual lens), close focus, and fun factor all exceeded my expectations so makes up for minor ergonomic issue with aperture ring; still 5 stars. Just be careful when mount/unmounting.

I ended up returning this as I it was a little too wide for what I wanted. It did work great though and I'm sure I would have more to say if I had kept it longer and used it more.

I bought this to go with my Sony A7II camera, and I absolutely love it. Produces sharp images with beautiful colors, good size for printing. I can't wait to take this to Disney World this December! Lens is nice and lightweight, which I really appreciate.

Very sharp fish eye lens. I use this with my A7rII and i produces wonderful images. I used to use the 16mm add on fish eye for my sony FE 28mm lens and this is far better.
