Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the cold shoe be unscrewed to expose a 1/4" screw, or does it require an adapter to provide screws on both ends?

A: Yes, iFootage MA3-4 Spider Crab Magic Arm with QR Mounting (7") has 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 screws at each end. You just have to depress the 3/8"-16 sheath to expose the 1/4"-20 screw. Here's an image of the 3/8"-16 and 1/4"-20 ends: https://bhpho.to/4eFmu3Y.

Q: 2. Is the quick release Arca-Swiss compatible or is this a proprietary Manfrotto quick release?

A: It is not Arca Swiss compatible. It is a proprietary Manfrotto release.

Q: 3. Will it work on Odyssey 7Q+ and Sony FS700? Or should I use another Magic Arm? Thanks.

A: The 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket is much heavier than you need for that application, in my opinion. Depends on your rig or setup. But a smaller extension device will likely be more acceptable.

Q: 4. I have a Manfrotto tripod with 100cm rail/slider and I'd like to know if the 422n Magic Arm will extend to the end of my rail? If so, I'll probably need to purchase additional hardware to support the Magic Arm to rail. Any suggestions will be helpful and thanks for your time.

A: you will need manfroto 635 quick action clamp to attach to your rail. also ends of friction arm are two different sizes 1/4 and 3/8 good thing depending on your mounting set up ,kevin vmsg ventura

Q: 5. Will this adapter hold the Leica geovid 15x56 R rangefinding binos?

A: If there is an area of less than two inches of diameter (probably toward the back of the tube or on the prism) the clamp will hold it. As an alternative, the Berlebach adapter tray; BH# BEBN2AOC is worth a look too.

Q: 6. Can this hold a t8 bulb? How small can this clamp down?

A: The Matthews Super Mafer Clamp with Baby (5/8 ) Pin has a maximum jaw opening of 2 inches, while the diameter of a T8 fluorescent bulb is 1 inch. As such, yes, a Matthews Super Mafer Clamp with Baby (5/8 ) Pin may hold a T8 fluorescent bulb. I would simply caution its usage as the glass bulb is fragile and the clamp is strong and can easily crush the bulb.

Q: 7. What is the maximal length? What is the length of each section?

A: Each section of the Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Bracket (B&H# MA244) is about 9" long. With the middle connection, the camera bracket on one end, and the pin on the other, the maximal length is 20.87" or 53 cm.

Q: 8. What is the maximum opening of this clamp? I would like to use it to hold a Rode Boom Pole.

A: This clamp would open up to about 2 inches wide.

Q: 9. can I replace the camera arm end with a clamp end?

A: If the intent is to use the arm to hold a camera but with the ability to use a clamp on both ends, then you would actually need the Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Arm With Camera Bracket, B&H # MA244. Please see the following image.

Q: 10. Is the spigot at the end removable (presumably resulting in a male threaded stud) so I can attach the arm to my MVH500AH that has a female threaded hole?

A: You will need to buy Impact 3/8" to 3/8" Adapter Spigot B&H # IMCA115 to mount your head on the arm.
