Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The 2.8 flavor definitely needs its tripod collar. But does this really need a collar? I'm using a 5D IV.

A: It depends on the user, if you only hand hold, then no. If you use the lens on a tripod or monopod then a collar is most definitely needed.

Q: 2. Does it work with Canon 6D mark II ?

A: Yes, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM Lens is compatible on the Canon 6D Mark II camera.

Q: 3. This lens has three IS modes. Which is best for hand-held video use?

A: Well, Mode 1 corrects vibrations in all directions and it's mainly used for Stills. Mode 2 might be best since it's mainly stabilizing vertical or horizontal motions. Mode 3 is similar but only when you're taking the shot so I would stick with a mixture of Mode 1 & 2 for your video work.

Q: 4. Is this lens compatible with a 5D MKII ?

A: Yes this lens is fully compatible with the 5D mark II or any other Canon eos camera.

Q: 5. Does this lens come with a Lens case like the 2.8 version does?

A: No, it comes with a soft cloth bag cover. It is not the more durable canvas zippered case that comes with the 2.8 L versions.

Q: 6. I just bought the 70-200 f4L IS II and the IS makes noise. What can I do / is this a problem?

A: That is normal, the IS does make some noise at start up and shut down and a faint noise while activated.

Q: 7. If used with the 1.4 extender, does the minimum focus distance remain the same?

A: Teleconverters do not affect the MFD (Minimum Focus Distance) of a lens so you can still use the lens's focus scale.

Q: 8. Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM is it is made in Japan!?

A: Yes, the Country of Origin for this product is Japan.

Q: 9. Is the image stabilizer still noisy like version 1 of this lens?

A: No.

Q: 10. Can this lens be used for weddings and street photography?

A: Yes, the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM Lens is a good option for weddings and street photography when you need a longer focal length.

My wife had the same model for a few years, and took thousands (and thousands) of pictures with it. No complaints other than it eventually gave out from above average wear and tear.

From 70-200mm, this lens provides all the sharpness and contrast you could ask for, even wide open. As you move towards 300mm, it's softens just a bit. However, even at 300mm, it remains quite respectable. At 300mm, stopped down one or two stops, I'd say performance is quite good - better than some reviews would lead you to believe. CAs are present in the extreme corners at 300mm, but Photoshop takes care of them fairly easily. In good light, autofocus is swift and sure. In low light situations, the lens can hunt a little - something that's true of all f/5.6 lenses. VR is outstanding, and comes close to matching Nikon's claim of a four stop advantage. Build quality is good - not professional grade, but better than consumer grade. The zoom ring is a bit stiff, but the effort required to turn it remains constant - it's not sticky, like some zooms I've encountered. The focus ring moves more freely, and has a nice feel to it for an autofocus lens. The only real drawback is the relatively slow speed of this lens. f/5.6 at 300mm means you lose some ability to manipulate depth of field... but it also means the lens remains both compact and affordable. There are always compromises to be made when choosing equipment, and this is a compromise I can certainly live with. Overall, I'd say this is a 4 1/2 star lens in terms of absolute performance. In terms of value, it's definitely a 5 star lens.

This last year, I got the 55-300mm lens, but wasn't happy with the overall sharpness. The 70-300 surpasses the other in all areas except for weight. My photos are much sharper, and the auto-focus is much faster. I love this lens and am completely happy with my purchase.

I have had this lens for about a week and for a kit lens its really a nice lens. Seams like Nikon always pulls out the stops for the kit lenses.

This lens is fantastic! We shoot mostly our kids' sports games and wanted a lens that could really get up close and personal, something that is especially challenging when shooting soccer games. We were also on a pretty tight budget so we bought this as a refurbished product. It's like new. I honestly would never have guessed it's refurbished. Finally, B&H proved to be a great retailer. The price was more than fair; ordering was simple and easy; ...
