Distinguished by speed, the Ibelux 40mm f/0.85 from Kipon is an exceptionally fast prime lens for Micro Four Thirds-mount mirrorless cameras. The impressive f/0.85 maximum aperture affords extensive control over depth of field for isolating focus and it also benefits working in low-light conditions. The ten groups in eight elements optical design incorporates a front concave element, which helps to reduce color fringing and various aberrations in order to achieve a high degree of sharpness. The all-metal construction realizes a rugged physical design, and the lens barrel's exterior also incorporates both depth of field and focusing distance scales for more accurate focus control. Additionally, a ten-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality to suit working with shallow depth of field techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will it work with the Z9?

A: KIPON Ibelux 40mm f/0.85 Mark III Lens (Nikon Z) will work with the Nikon Z9 but it is a APSC lens. It will crop the full frame sensor of the Z9. Less than half of the available megapixels will be used.

Q: 2. Can this lens be adapted to a Fujifilm X/T1?

A: B&H does not carry an adapter that would enable one to mount an E-mount lens onto a Fujifilm X-mount camera, nor am I aware of one on the market.

Q: 3. Hi, I want to use it with a Sony A7s in aps-c mode, is that camera compatible with this lens in E mount?

A: I didn't try specifically using apps-c mode but I am using (actually I am trying to use) with full frame mode. But thinking why not. Very interesting but needs lit of experiment to find the sweet spots. I will try one of these day with my 7r.

Q: 4. how does this lens compare to the Russian Zenit zenitar 50mm .95?

A: The largest difference is the KIPON Ibelux 40mm f/0.85 Lens for Sony E is a crop lens (APS-C) and the Zenitar 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Sony E is full frame. The Zenitar has a De-Clicked, Stepless Aperture Ring. So, very good for video use. Both are sharp lenses.

Q: 5. Is this a good lens for astrophotography? Is there a better choice for X mount?

A: Yes, the TTArtisan 10mm f/2.0 Lens (FUJIFILM X) can be used for astrophotography. This Rokinon 12mm lens would also be a good option: https://bhpho.to/3VYAv4j.

Q: 6. Will this adapter work to mount a L39 lens (such as an old Leica LTM lens to my Olympus OMD M1Mk2? Or will it place lens too close to sensor? I thinking of the 5cm Leica Summacron or the 3.5cm Summaron

A: Yes it will.

Q: 7. Quality wise?

A: Good quality and super fast lens a great lens for night photography..

Q: 8. Is there clearance for shifting the lens up so that it doesn't hit the OM-D EVF housing overhang?

A: The KIPON Shift Lens Mount Adapter for Olympus OM Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera will not hit the EVF overhang on the camera.

Q: 9. This lens is compatible whit the s1h panasonic

A: Yes, it'll be able to mount but do keep in mind that it is APS-C format and not full-frame so it'll be in Super 35 format for video.

Q: 10. What version is it ? First version, mark ii, mark iii ?

A: The KIPON Ibelux 40mm f/0.85 Lens for FUJIFILM X is version two.

I use this lens on my BMPCC, BMPCC4K and my Olympus camera! Stunning images both for cinematography and photography. In the hands of the right person this lens is a pure joy. I own the 17.5mm as well as the 42.5mm. Love them all! Worth every penny and then some...

These lenses are built like a tank. Everything is solid and smooth, you can adjust the aperture with clicked or clickless settings. This is the most distortion free wide angle lens I have ever used. There is some color fringiness at full open, but its a tradeoff for the amount of light pouring through the front, which lets you take shots in really low light conditions without cranking up the ISO.

All in all a really fantastic lens.

Amazing lens... the stepless, De-Clicked aperture ring is smooth as butter. Sharp to the edges and incredible in low light. As a Panasonic GH4 user this lens keeps me away from the noisy ISO 1600 when external light is not an option. Depth of field is amazing (for a M43) wide open at F-0.95 so you have to be careful if that's not the look you're going for. Manual focus only so you have to be comfortable with that but with focus peaking I find it is dead on. At 21mm (35mm equivalent)I'm not noticing any distortion, so for me... it is the perfect lens. A little long and heavy but it is a well built piece of glass.

This lens is just wide enough before it gets that fisheye bend. It's gorgeous in both imagery and craftsmanship, the same as the rest of the lens line. My biggest surprise was the incredible depth of field when the lens is wide open. Still sharp enough to use, especially, at like 1.2. For the work that I do, this lens is a god send, and the missing piece to my micro 4/3 lineup. It's also the perfect mate for the GH4 and my Helix Jr.

This lens is the widest of them I own. It's sharp, well built and the bokeh is amazing. I LOVE these lenses and they serve as my go to with the GH4 and GH5. No speed booster needed.

Wide spectrum of f stop so you can function in various light conditions. With BMPCC, I have also variable neutral density filter and I can use it at night and bright day light. It's amazing.
