Have all the essential focal lengths covered with this E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens from Sony. Designed for APS-C-format E-mount cameras, this lens offers an extremely versatile 27-157.5mm zoom range and has a constant f/4 aperture for consistency through all focal lengths. Making this lens a great choice for both stills and video is the implementation of a power zoom mechanism and Handycam technology that provides smooth, quiet zooming and focusing. Also, it uses two extra-low dispersion elements and three aspherical elements to combat aberrations for crisp, clean images.

On top of these features, the lens is equipped with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization to help reduce the effects of camera shake, especially at longer focal lengths. The lens benefits from an internal focus design that ensures that the overall length of the lens does not change during focusing. Additionally, it offers a minimum focus distance of 1.5' and uses a seven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

A versatile mid-range zoom for APS-C-format E-mount cameras, this 18-105mm lens provides a wide-angle to short telephoto 27-157.5mm equivalent focal length that works for anything from vast landscapes to tight portraits to distant subjects.

A constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also lends greater control over focus position for shallow depth of field techniques.

Two extra-low dispersion glass elements are featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.

Three aspherical elements, including one Advanced Aspherical (AA), are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.

Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.

Enjoy smooth zooms ideal for shooting movies with the power zoom mechanism which uses Handycam technology from Sony's well-regarded camcorders.

An internal focus design contributes to fast autofocus speeds and the minimum focus distance of 1.5' and easier handling as the lens maintains its overall length.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a Sony a6000 with the kit lenses 16-50 and 55-210. Is there a better lens than the 16-50? What about the 18-105, would that lens have better contrast and color?

A: I use it on a Nex7 and in my opinion it is a better lens for sharpness, contrast and color; but you have to be using software that allows for lens correction as this lens has some wicked distortion issues.

Q: 2. my 16-50 lenses has 4x digital zoom capability effectively taking it to 200 with some noise. does the 18-105 lenses have a digital zoom capability also?

A: No it does not. It has a constant F4 aperture from 18 to 105mm. Digital zooming is usually accomplished in camera with fixed lenses. The 18 to 105 is a removable lens. I am using mine on a Sony A6000 ASPC interchangeable lens camera.

Q: 3. I have the Sony 18-200 Power Zoom and I notice a good deal of resistance when zooming manually (because of the servo motor, I believe). Does this lens have the same sort of resistance when zooming manually, or does it feel normal?

A: I wouldn't say there's resistance but it doesn't feel like a typical manual zoom lens. The ring is easy to rotate but there seems to be a slight delay in response. I find it completely usable but it's not as a natural feeling as a manual zoom lens.

Q: 4. where is this lens manufactured ?

A: Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens country of origin is China.

Q: 5. Would this lens fit sony a7r II without any adapters?

A: yes. you can use the lens in super 35mm mode where the a7R II 4k mode has the best quality.

Q: 6. I bought this lens for my Sony a6000. The power zoom does not wok. Is it normal or a defective lens?.

A: try updating the lens and camera firmware and then try if it still doesn't work then you may want to return it for a new one. I have bothe the a6000 and a6300 and the lens works perfectly on both of them.

Q: 7. I'd like to put this on a gimbal with my a6500, is there any way to control the zoom with a remote that is quick/responsive? Is there a better lens/remote combo to do this with an a6500?

A: It is a very good lens, but I only use it with my Hasselblad lunar camera, sorry.

Q: 8. Is it a good choice for ZV E1?

A: The, Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens is a very good lens. But it will crop when using it with the Sony ZV-E1 Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 9. Can I shoot photos in full frame mode on my a7s with this lens?

A: You would have to put the A7 in crop mode, This is not a FE lens

Q: 10. Would this lens work with an A7R III to shoot full frame photos?

A: No, the Sony E PZ 18-105 f/4 G lens will not allow you to shoot Full Frame images. While it functions on the A7R III, it is a APS-C sized lens. You will not be able to shoot at 42 megapixels as the camera will automatically crop to adjust to this lens. Consider the Sony FE 20-70mm f/4 G lens instead since it is a full frame lens.

I bought this lens to shoot video with a sony a6500. Perfect team - I now have 2 of these and 2 6500's and buying a third. The video output is incredible! and the lens will stay at 4.0 thru the zoom range - a great advantage.

The b&h store in NYC, I was persuaded to buy this lens instead of the kit lens on the Sony a6000. For my niche, travel photos, this lens is amazing. It still has the potential for a low enough f stop to create cool focuses, but can get wide frame shots as well as dramatically zoomed in shots. Love it so much, the colors are beautiful

Bought this a month ago with a6500, a day before for my 3 weeks west coast road trip. In which, i'm glad i did, with my limited knowledge with cameras and lenses, i was able to take astounding pictures be it portrait, landscape, or even at a low light environment such as the caverns, all i did is set it up in auto mode with my cam, use the toggle to zoom in/out, point and shoot.

I got this lens ever since it was out and I use it on my A6000. Its compact enough, sharp enough, fast enough and most important sturdy enough. I have traveled over 20000 km with it and 0ver 6000 km on my motorcycle through real rough weather, from sea level to 18,000 feet. No complaints of any kind.

If I only have room for one lens this my go to lens it's light, compact and sharp. The photo was shot at 105mm on an A9 in full auto settings. Sure you can buy a lens with a lower f stop but it will double the weight and triple the price and a maybe a fraction better quality???

I bought this lens to shoot pictures in a gym at my sons basketball games. I have used it about 6 times so far and love this lens. some of the gyms were very low light and it did a great job. I have not used it for video yet but the movement is very steady and quiet.
