Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the amp rating for the phantom power?

A: 1 or 2 mA with 2mA being the maximum.

Q: 2. is it capable of generating phantom power over all four inputs?

A: Phantom power on the DR60D is available on both XLR inputs. Mics or other devices that connect via the 3.5mm input jack to channels 3&4 do not require 48v phantom power. They may require what is called plug-in power which is generally 1 - 10 volts and the unit is able to provide this as well.

Q: 3. Can I use this with a Rode NTG-3 and a Sony A7s ii?

A: Melissa,Actual users have indicated they have used those mics successfully.Thank you for your interest in TASCAM products.

Q: 4. Can this be used to input audio to an iPhone 14?

A: The TASCAM DR-60DmkII 4-Input / 4-Track Multitrack Field Recorder's direct output could technically be connected to an iPhone 14 by using a 3.5mm TRS to TRRS adapter cable and a 3.5mm TRRS to Lightning adapter.

Q: 5. Can I plug in two wired lavs and have them both be stereo?

A: Why would you do that? Lavs are monaural source capture devices. Any lavs that are stereo are selling you function with no usable application. Human voice comes from one point source, not a stereo source. (For capturing sound reverb of a given setting, stereo for one vocalist makes sense, but for interviews it does not.) Consider: most vocals in video are mixed down to center channel (such as in 5.1), .... or contribute from a mono track when mixed into an overall stereo mix down.

Q: 6. When you push the Slate button. Does the Tascam DR-60mkII play and auditable tone that you can hear?

A: Yes. You can set the slate tone to play before or after a recording. A great feature.

Q: 7. Can I input a wired shotgun mic on input 1/L and a wireless lav on input 2/R then mix the two inputs to a mono mix and feed this mix to bout output channels to my camera?

A: Yes. Mono is on the Menu; on page 17 of manual: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1084690-REG/tascam_dr_60mkii_portable_recorder_for_dslr.html

Q: 8. I have a Canon with XLR mic/Line input. Will it work with it?

A: It will, assuming you want to record audio to the camera and Tascam at the same time you may need an adapter if the only input to the camera is XLR. But this unit is a very flexible option for recording and syncing audio to video.

Q: 9. What is this generally used for?

A: The Tascam DR-60DmkII 4-Input / 4-Track Multitrack Field Recorder BH #TADR60DMKII is highly recommended for Filmmaking, TV, and Web Broadcast. It could also be used for HOW applications , meetings and most general recording applications.

Q: 10. I need to connect Rode NT1 with phantom power and a dynamic mic that doesn't require phantom. Can I connect both to xlr inputs? Would this harm the dynamic mic?

A: yes, you can connect dynamic microphone to XLR with phantom power. I have don it without any problem.

Its design as stand alone or to incorporate mounting with the camera mount is Perfect for shoots where ya dont have a whole lot of crew. Its features and ease of use is just fantastic. I will never need to replace or upgrade. I am set for years

This has been a game changer for me. Now I can record sound directly into the camera footage and have the backup file to really edit!

I produce YouTube videos for a schoolteacher and moving from
her cell phone to a hybrid camera improved the video but not the audio so much.

Looking for an economical audio solution I purchased the TASCAM DR-60DmkII and coupled it with a TAKSTAR SGC-598 Microphone.

The result has been incredibly good, I now get a clean audio track to take into DaVinci Resolve.

Pros: (the ones that affect me)

* Built in hi-pass filter and limiter
* Accommodates three types of input connectors
* Can be tripod mounted or stand alone
* Three outputs, high, low and headphones
* Up to 32gb sd card
* Dual mono channel record with one channel 8db lower (this has
saved me more than once)
* Setting for rechargeable batteries

Cons:

* Only one for me, the menu system is old school and takes a
bit to get used to.

I would recommend this recorder to anyone looking to improve
the quality of their native audio track and boost the overall quality of their videos.

I now find myself mounting the mike on the unit and going
out to collect ambient sounds to enhance my videos even further. I am happy with this unit.

Excellent device for multiple purpose use DSLR sound and Music recording. Excellent pre-amps with separate phantom power switch's for channel 1 and 2 which makes for a much cleaner sound than the Tascam DR40X. The DR-60mkII pre-amps contribute virtually no noise to the recording for a professional sounding track. Has many essential manual controls like channel 1 and 2 level knobs. Menus not so cumbersome to navigate than the typical menu system through the main knob/button controller. Worth the investment for serious results.

so just fyi if you adapt a mic with a 3.5mm TRS plug to XLR, heres a really useful tip
adapting what looks like a 3.5mm stereo jack to a 1/4 inch jack to the XLR adapter you will wanna use a 3.5 mm jack to a 1/4 inch MONO jack. otherwise you will not get a signal. i know it seens like a 3.5 stereo jack to a 1/4 inch jack seems like what ya wanna do. And a lot of people make this assumtion, i did. Just figured id share this info for anyone who is trying to troubleshoot why they are getting no XLR input.

We've been shooting video with DSLR or Mirriorless cameras for years and with this unit I finally have something that handles audio the right way! I haven't even been able to tap all it's features yet. Generally I use it on interviews to monitor and adjust the level of the talent. I record on to the SD card as a back-up even through I record video and audio via our Sony a7s on to an Atomos Inferno. Good peace of mind. I either mount this mixer/recorder on our cage that hold the a7s or just sit with it in my lap during an interview. Sound quality is great, strong pre-amps and it's nice to have locking XLR connectors.

Nice combination of inputs and recording options. Has some self-noise but much lower than some comparable units.

Very good preamps, very good price tag, easy to learn, a bit power hungry but nothing that a battery pack or rechargeable NiHM batteries can't solve.

I've had one of these for a couple years now and I'll say that it has no business sounding as good as it does for the money. I've shot many, many projects with it, including a 53-minute documentary, and it has been great to use. There are some idiosyncrasies, but all-in-all, you can't beat it for the price. I'll take this over a Zoom H4n (which I have used also) any day. I like the form factor too (see picture). Maybe I'll upgrade to a MixPre one day, but for now, I'm very happy with this unit.

Works very well. Feels well made. Very versatile in the ways it can tie into the audio capabilities of the camera. I got this in order to start making nature videos. For now, I am just using one shotgun microphone to get sounds of nature, so this recorder is just what I need, but it is capable of more input, should I need it. The slate tone is very handy for syncing video to audio when editing. Definitely need to read the users manual and practice recording and navigating through the menus to get it set up to record properly. Once you're familiar with it, it becomes easy to use. I needed to get a 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter to get my RODE mic to work with the main XLR line-in inputs - an $8 adapter, no big deal. I am very happy with how this recorder is performing.
