The TH-05 Monitoring Headphones from TASCAM are designed for recording, mixing, and everyday music-listening needs. The headphones feature 40mm neodymium magnet drivers that deliver a clean, balanced, and honest representation of your source audio. The TH-05's are built with circumaural closed-back oval earcups, which provide listening isolation while minimizing headphone bleed. They rotate 180° and employ pliable materials that are stitched around a stainless steel frame, combined with a flexible, lightweight manganese headband that ensures a comfortable fit. The cable is 9.8' in length and terminates with a gold-plated 3.5mm plug and a 1/4" adapter. Q: 1. I’ve got the Tascam dr-10L yesterday. The OLED display under the clear protective display panel is not aligned. This is visible when the unit is turned ON. I clearly see that the OLED display rectangle not properly aligned with the protective display panel rectangle because its right side is higher than its left side. In other words, there are display external clear panel and the OLED display rectangles are misaligned: the sides of these two rectangles are not parallel to each other. Sorry, but It is causing annoyance. Anyone has same problem on its unit?

A: That is not correct and seems to be a defective unit.

Q: 4. Is there an advantage between recording to this and say an iPhone 7 using the same mic? I have recording software on phone that allows me to export files as AIFF etc and set record quality according to mic options. (assuming you already have a phone and are not concerned about recording to an sd card)

A: Massive advantages. Locking thread. No inferences from iPhone (what if you forget to put it in airplane). Battery is replaceable (gotta charge phone, what if you forget?). Dual recording levels. Auto levels is actually usable. Hold switch. Everything is related to being able to actually safeguard your audio.

Q: 5. Can this sync into dragon?

A: The audio from the WAV files created by this digital recorder cam be transcribed using Dragon.

Q: 6. Just unboxed two identical mics, one works perfectly the other is not receiving any input and recorded files are empty. Any ideas on troubleshooting to get second mic to record?

Q: 7. Can you record in variable rates i.e. 30fps vs 24fps to match your camera?

A: You cannot record in FPS on the Tascam DR-10L.

Q: 8. If I need to purchase a replacement lav, is there a specific one that I need. I tried to use a lav mic from a Sony UTX-V023 (looks same connection) but no audio comes through to the recorder. Not sure why and now not sure which one to purchase? Thank you

A: Although the locking 1/8 connector looks the same, Tascam has the same polarity as Sennheiser. Not Sony. The Sennheiser lav SEME2II will work with the DR-10L.

Q: 9. Why won't a Sandisk Ultra micro SDXC work with this and an SDHC will? I have both cards and only the HC works. XC just causes it to freak out.

A: SDXC is a designation for Xtra Capacity which means larger than 32gigs. The specs for the Dr-10L only support memory cards 32gigs and smaller, which would be MicroSD and Micro SDHC.

Q: 10. I cannot update the firmware. I have gone through steps 1,2,3,4,5, & 6 but pressing the + button while sliding the Record button to on does not initiate the update process. What is the problem? The file I copied to the memory card is dr10l.200. There is no other file on the card.

A: Xero B,According to our engineering department...While pressing the ENTER /(pause mark) button and PHONES + button, turn on the power to the unit, the message SD mount OK will be displayed.Thank you for your interest in TASCAM products.

We like to get away from boom mics anytime we can. The DR 10 is a good secondary recorder and possibly a main recorder with some post work. The build is rugged and made to last. The mic locks into the recorder. 5

Does exactly what it should, but it took me quite a while to figure out why my 64GB memory card was not working. This device will not work with any memory card that is larger than 32GB. Seems like this should have been something that was very prominent in the description, or very prominent in the manual, but it was not. 5

I have a total of four of these now. I originally purchased two to replace my wireless system. It was becoming increasingly irritating to get my handheld audio recorder through security, in certain countries, because all brands tend to look like a handheld taser. And they hate anything with antennas! I used to have put my wireless packs in my checked luggage. I admit that they are a little hard to get familiar with, and if you have big fingers it's a bit hard to turn them on and start recording, but that fact means it's hard to accidentally stop them recording. I find the mics have good capsules, which sound better than my more expensive wireless mics. With a 32GB card and a fresh quality battery, you can turn it on and record for hours! The dual recording mode is very helpful, having an attenuated recording in case of loud noise. Recording at 24/48, dual recording, I have pushed a continuous recording to 8 hours, on a 23GB card. These are great for documentary work. Especially in situations where you have several subjects, in various locations. I have filmed at a lot of archaeological excavations, and I am able to put mics on key persons and capture interesting audio, even if I'm not filming them. Makes great VO possibilities. Admittedly, it is a bit disconcerting not being able to monitor them. I always plug in headphones to each pack and make certain that my initial setup is working properly. Triple check that it is actually recording, and you are good to go. I always check to see it is still recording, at regular intervals. Since you are not limited by range and interference, it makes these great for shots that would be impossible with wireless systems. Just make sure it is actually recording!!! 5
