Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine Ds Lens For Sony Alpha Mount

Utilizing a multi-layer coating process for consistent color rendition from lens to lens the Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine DS Lens answers the challenge of assembling a set of lenses over time. The lens comes in a Sony Alpha Mount and features industry standard geared focus and iris rings that share common position with other Rokinon Cine DS lenses. To aid focus pullers who have to work both sides of the lens, the aperture and focus scales are marked on both sides of the lens.

This 24mm lens produces a 84.1° FOV when used with full-frame cameras. Hybrid aspherical lenses render sharply defined images with a minimum of distortion and chromatic aberrations, with a minimum focus distance of just under 10" from the lens. A removable petal shaped lens hood provides flare protection when shooting without a matte box, the lenses threaded front accepts a 77mm filter ring.

Please note that some cameras may require that Shutter Lock be disengaged when using this lens.

Ultra Multi Coated lenses minimize flare and ghosting, and the lenses are color matched to a standard eliminating the need to acquire an entire set of lenses at the same time.

ED, extra-low dispersion glass, helps reduce chromatic aberration and can improve contrast and color saturation.

Industry-standard gearing for focus and aperture rings. Each lens in the Rokinon DS series share common focus and iris gear ring positions, which speeds up lens changes as accessories such as follow focus units or iris motors don't have to be re-positioned.

"De-clicked" aperture ring for smooth iris pulls.

A minimum focusing distance of 9.8" allows you to get up close to your subject.

A removable petal-type lens hood provides flare protection without a matte box.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between this lens that costs $584.00and the Samyang 24mm T1.5 VDSLRII Cine Lens for Micro Four Thirds Mount that cost $699.00?

A: No difference since they are made exactly the same except for the name badge. I would get the Rokinon. It normally is more expensive but it is on special sale right now with a limited supply.

Q: 2. how will it work with Sony PMW F3?

A: You can use this lens on that camera. You will need an adapter. See below. You will not need the adapter's aperture feature with this lens but you will if you get Canon EF lenses.

Q: 3. Do you have to disengage shutter lock if using Rokinon 24mm T1.5 cine DS lens on a 5D mark ii?

A: You can use this all-manual lens on the 5D Mark II without issue. Since you have to set both focus and aperture by hand, using the Manual, Shutter or Aperture modes is recommended.

Q: 4. How long is the focus throw?

A: This is a cine-type lens so it is about 1 1/4 -1/2 turns as against a still AF lens of about 1/8th of a turn.

Q: 5. What's the difference between this lens and the Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine ED AS IF UMC Lens for Sony E Mount? Besides the price?

A: sorry but we bought this for a client of ours and so do not know the answer. Peter

Q: 6. Where on the lens is the serial number?

A: The Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine DS Lens for Canon EF Mount's serial number will be listed on the box, and is not printed on the lens itself.

Q: 7. Is there a replacement hood available?

A: This lens does have a removable hood, however we do not have that available for a separate purchase. Feel free to email us directly at provideo@bhphoto.com and we can guide you in the right direction for a replacement part.

Q: 8. What size filter does it use?

A: 77mm

Q: 9. will this lens work perfect with sony a7s2?

A: Yes it does!!!

Q: 10. this lens covers the sensor of the GY-LS300 100°?? Tanks

A: This lens only covers an MFT sized sensor. Here is a list of MFT mount lenses that can cover a Super 35mm Sensor. https://bhpho.to/2BecfST

My primary focus is "Motion Picture", I'm a retired pro still photographer. This lens intrigued me so I ordered one. I chose Nikon mount as the most adaptable, 24mm as a "normal" focal length for Micro Four Thirds and I can always adapt it to Canon if I go back to that brand camera. With initial testing it seems more than adequately sharp without the "clinical" look colors and image tones can get from digital camera processing native M4/3 lenses do with the camera. Manual focus throw is decent and smooth, a follow focus mounted on the right goes towards infinity when turned clockwise and focuses closer when turned back towards camera operator (Panasonic Lumix GH5 camera). Iris has no detents (is clickless) and I like this very much. Both focus and iris rings are geared.

This lens is larger and heavier than most of my native M4/3 glass, which creates a bit of a dilemma for me. What drew me to M4/3 was smaller size and much less weight of bodies and lenses. At 70 going on 80 this lens size and weight are going in the wrong direction but I'll use it and enjoy the features it offers. When it goes in a cage with rails, follow focus, and audio recorder I'll have to use it on a tripod. Hand held I'll have to forget all the "add on stuff" and use it like we used gear 50 years ago.

Other accessories I've already got for it are ND filters and a diffusion filter for a soft look when needed. A .71x focal reducer (I have RJ & Viltrox) gives me 2 lenses in one, a 50mm equvalent mounted on the GH5 with a Nikon to M4/3 adapter and a 34mm equiv with a focal reducer.

I like this lens very much, might even order a Rokinon 50mm when the sobbing credit card recovers from this and a few other purchases

I produce indie film. I purchased this lens as part of the four lens DS bundle. The 50mm is a favorite among Rokinon owners, and I too love it. This 24mm lens is a close second or third as it performs very well for me. I am using these lenses with an adapter on a Sony FS7. As with all the other lenses in this bundle, T1.5 is amazing at this price point. It certainly has more plastic in it than other lenses I own. The powder coating does a good job of not showing fingerprints. Smooth rings. I will say that of all the lenses in the bundle that I got, the lens hood on this one does not snap as tight as the others. Not really a big deal, but I noticed it.

I previously purchased Rokinon lenses and I just bought this as an addition to my collection of primes.

I use this lens to shoot various projects including weddings and independent films. The image quality and clarity are fantastic and the manual focus is extremely smooth. The de-clicked aperture is great because it can be extremely fast and you are able to expose during recording, although I would stay away from that unless absolutely necessary. It is a little bulky, especially with a lens hood. Switching out lenses make take slightly longer and storing it in a bag may prove a little more difficult then with some other lenses. But it's definitely worth it.

I bought this lens as a kit with the 35mm, 50mm and 85mm DS lens. This lens when compared to the canon L glass (16-35) was just as sharp if not sharper. I highly recommend this lens.

First, I mainly use this lens on Sony bodies. I've used it on an a6300, an A7S II, and an FS5 using two FotodioX adapters (one that just passes it through, one with a built-in variable ND filter) and a Metabones Speed Booster. This is actually why I prefer using Canon lenses on a Sony body - it effectively multiplies your capabilities. No matter what I'm doing, I can pull a great image from this lens.

An interesting side note: Rokinon lenses can focus beyond infinity. This is incredibly useful when you're running them through the speedbooster, which moves your focus point out a bit (in my experience). Your new infinity is now where the focus ring physically stops when using the speedbooster, rather than the infinity mark.

As with most of the Cine DS series, it's a bit soft until you hit around T4-5.6 (I've found this one gets tack sharp around T4). I actually like the softer look for video work, as I feel that it looks a bit more classically cinematic than a tack sharp image does.

All in all, it's an utterly beautiful lens. I'm looking forward to using it more in the future! Paired with my Rokinon 50mm lens, I don't really see myself needing anything but the two for most of the work I do.
