Defend your data with the Aegis Secure Key 4GB 3NX Encrypted USB 3.1 Flash Drive from Apricorn. Featuring read and write speeds up to 77 and 72 MB/s, respectively, the 3NX allows you to quickly import and transfer data. Additionally, this drive also sports hardware-based 256-Bit AES XTS encryption for protecting stored data. The polymer-coated keypad is designed to be wear-resistant, preventing buttons from betraying signs of repeated use, thus further protecting your login information from would-be compromises. Incorporating a small battery in its design, the drive allows a PIN to be entered prior to insertion. In the event of a brute-force attack, the Apricorn 3NX deletes its encryption key after a set number of failed login attempts.

Separate Admin and User modes on the 3NX allow for tailored access, including read/write or read-only modes. Both Admin and User modes require programmable PINs from 7 to 16 digits in length, and the PINs must be set up before using the drive, as it lacks a factory-default PIN. The Admin mode can be used to override user-set permissions, or to access User mode. Additionally, the Admin mode can be utilized to reset the drive, and an automatic lock feature secures the 3NX when removed from a USB port or during a period of inactivity. The Aegis Secure Key 3NX is deployed in an IP67 aluminum enclosure designed to ward off dust and water. Internally, the drive includes a hard epoxy resin intended to prevent tampering with the encryption circuitry. This USB drive requires neither drivers nor software and will work with Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and Symbian operating systems.

USB 3.2 Gen 1 features a maximum throughput of 5 Gb/s and is synonymous with USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.0.

Limiting the number of possible failed attempts, the Aegis Secure Key 3NX erases the encryption key in the event of a brute-force attack. The limit for failed login attempts can be set in the Admin mode and can range from 4 to 20. Once half of the limit has been reached, the drive automatically locks itself from further attempts, requiring an Admin-enabled "LastTry" code before allowing the remaining login attempts.

When compromised, the Aegis Secure Key 3NX can be rendered unreadable by way of a Self-Destruct PIN. This Admin-designated sequence will erase the cipher key used in the encryption, rendering data inaccessible.

When using the drive during reboot or with a virtual machine, the auto-lock feature can be overridden to ignore renumbering or power loss to the USB port.

Using a function called PIN Guard, the Aegis Secure Key 3NX will recognize isolated, accidental button presses and power down the drive, preventing battery depletion. Furthermore, this USB drive can be programmed with up to four one-time-use recovery PINs.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the rotational speed of this drive?

A: As the manufacturer has not specified the spin speed of this set of drives, it is safe to assume it is 5400 RPM.

Q: 2. I have a 5yr old laptop w/2.0 A-Ports. Can I extract my folders, music and pictures on this?

A: No. This SanDisk 256GB Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB 3.1 Flash Drive (USB Type-C / Type-A), would not plug directly into a USB 2.0 port.

Q: 3. Can a computer without usb-c connect to the usb3.0 and access the drives and the sd card and other ports becoming hub? Most importantly can it access the drives to dump footage to this drive with just usb3 connected to computer?

A: You would only be able to connect to your computer via Thunderbolt 3 or Gigabit. The USB A ports are only to connect external drives.

Q: 4. For archiving, would you buy one of these and use in RAID 0 (for maximum size) or an 8TB desktop-size drive (losing the benefit of portability and encryption) ?

A: If one drive fails in a RAID 0 configuration, you would lose all of your data. The desktop drive has the advantage of an external power source. You could use a program like bitlocker to encrypt the drive. If you are looking for a portable solution, you could divide the data across 2 or 3 Lacie 5TB Rugged drives.

Q: 5. Does this require wall power or is it bus powered? The photos and description are confusing.

A: The LaCie 8TB Rugged RAID Shuttle USB 3.1 Gen 2 External Hard Drive B&H # LASTHT800080 works over bus power if you use it the USB Type C to Type C cable on a laptop with a native USB Type C port. If used with the included Type C to Type A USB cable and an older computer, you will need to use the included power supply.

Q: 6. Is this USB Drive "OTG" compatible for Android devices? Thanks.

A: If your Android phone has a USB Type-C port, yes.

Q: 7. What is the maximum capacity per HD?

A: I have two 4TB HDs working well

Q: 8. If one of the hard drives fail, is the failed drive user replaceable?

A: The LaCie Rugged RAID Shuttle's internal drives are not made to be user-replaceable.

Q: 9. Can I download a pc game to it from computer and load it to another computer?

A: The preferred process is to install the game from original media/download onto another computer. Copying an application (which is what a game would be on a PC) does not always work as other hidden files are usually installed during installation.

Q: 10. Is it fast enough to allow working in video edition reading the footage right from this USB-C unit?

A: Although you can probably do some light video editing using a flash drive, it is recommended a more powerful device with sustained writing and reading speed like an ssd or a hard drive.
