A: 7/8th of an inch in depth. the pocket takes up a rectangle that is 7&3/8s x 21 inches, centered to the top side of the case. the non-retractable handle takes up an additional small space, protruding 1&3/4 x 3&1/2 into the main case. this is on top of the protrusion from the retractable handle.the wheels on the bottom also protrude into the main case, 2 x 2&1/2 cheers.

Q: 4. I purchased this unit about a year ago. I use it to store my equipment. My question is as follows. The place where I keep the unit is on the other side of the wall of the bathroom. There are heating pipes not far away and they too are behind a wall and under the floor. I do not live in a very high humidity location (Canada), and I rarely open the storage unit. A: There should be no issue with the gear inside the Pelican but you can also add silica gel to be certain.

A: I would go for the unit with foam or TrekPak. I bought 2 of these units for high end printing units and photographic gear. Have gone with the TrekPak inserts and the equipment is very secure and stable when the case is closed. I have an older unit with the foam and the gear in that unit has travelled on many global flights and never had an issue. I think with either foam or TrekPak, you will be good to go! I can't comment for size as I don't know how big the Celestron is.
