The RocketStor 6661A-mSAS3 supports up to eight 6 Gb/s SAS or SATA drives with a total capacity of 112TB.

Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.

The integrated hardware controller allows you to configure one or more configurations, including RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and JBOD.

With a few clicks, you can check available storage capacity, the condition of any arrays and all hosted drives, and enable auto-rebuild and hot spare features for added layers of data security. You can also schedule maintenance sessions and enable email notifications to alert authorized users of changing storage conditions when away from the system.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do you provide a EU AC power supply?

A: The OWC ThunderBay 4 mini 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array and Drive Enclosure BH #OWCTB3QMJB00 has a dual voltage power supply which works 100-240V, however, it is shipped with a US power cable. You would need to use an adapter or source a cable locally.

Q: 2. Is it compatible with an Intel P4610 SSD ? (BH #IN2KE064T801 MFR #SSDPE2KE064T801)

A: The OWC ThunderBay 4 mini 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array and Drive Enclosure BH #OWCTB3QMJB00 is only compatible with SATA drives. It is not compatible with a U.2 drive.

Q: 3. Hi I just wanted to confirm if this has a hardware raid controller built-in? Also will there be continued Mac OS support?

A: Yes, the HighPoint RS6618V 8-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Enclosure uses a hardware RAID controller and supports Mac systems running macOS 10.13 and newer.

Q: 4. Does this work with El Capitan? Is anyone using it with 6TB drives? Does it allow for easy mounting and unmounting of drives while there are two hardrives connected? any crash issues or kernel panic warnings I should know about?

A: I have El Capitan running on a SSD in the dock, no problems, crashes, etc.

Q: 5. what is the speed difference between the HDD and the SSD raid?

A: In general, SSDs will have much faster read and write speeds than traditional HDDs. The read/write speeds of the hard drives included with this enclosure are not listed, but on average you can expect a SATA SSD to be roughly five times faster than a 7200 RPM SATA HDD.

Q: 6. it is compatible with macbook pro 17 late 2011?

A: As long as it has a thunderbolt port.

Q: 7. Will this drive support two disks in a raid setup?

A: I'm doing that right now. Have three sets of disks, 1TB SATA, 500GB SATA and 256GB SSDD. Works great. Both the Mac's OS solution for soft raid (established in DiskUtilities) and the commercial SoftRaid software did the trick.

Q: 8. Can you use multiple RS5212 at the same time, on a thunderbolt hub, or from two separate thunderbolt connectors on my MacBookPro? (Use two/three of these to access 4/6 drives at the same time)

A: You can not daisy chain them. but if you use separate connections from MBP, it will see 4/6 drives at the same time.

Q: 9. Can I use this enclosure with a computer that only has USB 3(5 gbps), not Thunderbolt? I know I won't get all the speed advantages of Thunderbolt, just curious about backward compatibility with older machines.

A: The OWC ThunderBay 4 requires Thunderbolt 3 speeds to operate properly. Any type of port that is less capable can produce unexpected results.

Q: 10. Would it be practical to connect this to a mac mini being used as a media server? The 500 GB drive in the Mac Mini is inadequate for my iTunes library and Video_TS files, but I don't want to pay several hundred bucks for a regular Thunderbolt external drive/enclosure.

A: Yes, this would work well with you're mac mini. However you would still need to buy the hard drives to dock into the rocketstor, as this is only an interface device. I have found it has worked with with all the SATA drives I have docked into it and have yet to run into any problems. And the transfer rate between the machine and the dock is superb. I do a-lot of video editing on our machine's and by using the dock I no longer have to copy the source material to the internal Hard drive and can edit the material direct on the drive I have docked. I hope this is helpful
