The NiSi Solid Neutral Density Long-Exposure Filter Kit contains three filters that are compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 100mm-wide, 2mm-thick filters. Each filter can be used individually or in various combinations to create a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

This kit's NiSi 100 x 100mm Nano IRND 0.9, 1.8, and 3.0 Filters are ND filters that provide a respective 3-, 6-, and 10-stop exposure reduction. The design of these filters has been optimized for use with digital sensors and to promote nearly flat attenuation of visible and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. To provide a high level of neutrality across the visible and infrared spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks, one layer of NiSi Optical Nano Coating is applied to each of these filter's surfaces. The nano coating associated with these filters also results in an improved beading effect when in contact with water or oil for greater cleaning efficiency.

An included NiSi Four-Filter Soft Case for 100mm Filters is designed to provide a secure and convenient transport and storage solution for any combination of up to four NiSi 100 x 100mm or 100 x 150mm filters. Filters placed within this pouch are each held within one of four nonabrasive slots. They can be easily accessed by opening the pouch's touch-tab fastened front flap.

When photographing with a tripod, a loop along the rear of the filter case allows it to be secured to one of the tripod's legs, putting your filters in more immediate reach. This pouch's exterior is woven from canvas for durability.

Also provided is a microfiber cloth for cleaning and maintenance of the filters, as well as three light-blocking gaskets. Each of these gaskets can be used to form a seal that is intended to prevent stray light, which could have unwanted effects on exposure, from coming in between a filter and the lens behind it.

Q: 1. Needing a backdrop that is 20' wide and 10' tall. Could I rotate this 90°, or is there a curtain rod guide built in to the 10' side? Wondering if I can put it on my own 20' core to hang and roll up sideways

A: This vinyl background is rolled onto a core so it cannot be placed on its side.

Q: 2. Can you use it on a carpet floor?

A: It would not be recommended to use this on a carpet.

Q: 3. The photo shows a texture to it. I do not want a texture, can you speak to the macro finish?

A: The vinyl used in the Savage 5 x 12' Infinity Vinyl Background (Pure White) BH #SABGIV512W does have a slight texture. If you light it correctly it will not be visible.

Q: 4. Can I hang this on my backdrop stand without sagging? Ive always used muslin or paper and it has worked fine... but know this is heavier.

A: You can hang it from a backdrop stand. If you put it up and take it down for each session (like a friend of mine does) it will be not problem at all. If you leave it there (or hanging from the ceiling (like I do) it will begin to sag after 2-3 days if it is not being used. When mine sags, I simply roll it 180 degrees to put the sag upwards and by the next day it is straight again.

Q: 5. Is the core strong enough not to sag if using a portable background support crossbar?

A: My team needed to purchase a new heavy-duty backdrop stand (thicker metal) to hold the weight with minimal sag.

Q: 6. Does this backdrop have a sewn loop on one end for attaching to a background support system? Photos seem to show it as just a roll of vinyl.

A: It is glued and taped to a heavy cardboard core. Also note that you will need something heavy like speed rail to keep it from sagging under its own weight.

A: Unfortunately, this meter would not display a percentage of flash.

Q: 8. Do you think this will hold up to dog nails and activity?

A: I've been using the 5'x12' white vinyl for 4 years, It holds up really well but after 4 years it's harder to get the markings made by dogs and handlers.

Q: 9. How dark is this gray?

A: It is a neutral gray. The perceived color will vary depending on how you light it.

Q: 10. I currently use a your 36' x 86' #60 Focus Gray paper backdrop. How do the two colors compare?

A: If lit evenly, Focus Gray would offer a cooler tone compared to this Photo Gray background.
