Capture the Magic: Train Your Eye, Improve Your Photographic Composition from Rocky Nook is an inside look at the career of Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist Jack Dykinga. After winning prestigious accolades as a young photographer, Jack worked as a photo editor and later as a wilderness guide before becoming a celebrated landscape photographer.

Later in his career, after surviving a life-threatening operation, Jack adopted a new perspective that provided a framework for self-examination and a deeper look into why images resonate with a photographer's feelings. As the photographs in this book progress through various eras of his life, Jack describes the influences and events that shaped his changing aesthetic and design sense. Packed with hundreds of images, the book explains with immense gratitude the forces that caused his work to evolve, and the subtle changes that have come to define his work.

Over the past 50 years, a virtual "who's who" of editors, writers, and photographers have influenced Jack's photographic journey, and his amassed images form a body of work that is varied and profound. From huddled figures in mental institutions, to epic landscapes, his images are both disturbing and sublime. And ultimately, they are touchstones in a master photographer's life.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the train only for 6 feet wide? Or can it go either way?

A: There is Velcro on two sides of the box so the train can go either way.

Q: 2. I'm looking to hook up external microphone to my iPhone 14 pro. Would this Apple adapter work for me ? Microphone Is Sunpak

A: Yes, the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter BH #APLAADAP would be the adapter needed to connect a 3.5mm mic.

Q: 3. will this work with high quality pro mics like the RODE lavalier for iPhone mics?

A: Yes. This is compatible with that Rode, and most mics that do not require phantom power.

Q: 4. How challenging is it to control wrinkles with this backdrop over the 6'x7' HiLite?

A: The cover stretches taught over the frame on the Hilite. If you check the video in the overview tab at the bottom of the page you will see what it looks like after you do. If you run into creases they can generally be easily released with a clothing steamer.

Q: 5. I heard from someone that this background is opaque. I also read on your site that there is no need to relight the background, leading me to believe that the lighting from behind it will light it evenly and sufficiently. Please shed light on this contradiction...?

A: The HiLite Bottletop Cover is a cover that fits over the Hilite and is not translucent. Lastolites site recommends to not light it from behind so front lighting will be needed.

Q: 6. Is this connector compatible with iPhone 11?

A: Yes, the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter BH #APLAADAP is compatible with all iphones that use the Lightning connection which is the connection on the iPhone 11.

Q: 7. Can I use a mic that requires plug-in power such as the Rode Videomicro?

A: This will only work with self powered mics. It passes through enough power for many headphones, but not microphones.

Q: 8. Can this be mounted on the smaller Canon rectangular Speedlite and attach the MagMod Sphere 2 defuser to it? Thank you, MAW

A: The Rogue Photographic Design Rogue Flash Adapter (Small) will fit the Canon 430 EX speedlite. It does not accept MagMod modifiers however. It will fit Rogue modifiers like this Rogue Photographic Design Flash Diffuser Dome. https://bhpho.to/38ZOcez

Q: 9. Are there adapter for this charger to charge LP-E6 batteries?

A: No, the Watson Pro L-Train 6-Bay NP-F Battery Charger has fixed charging plates, unlike the single-battery adaptable plate chargers from Watson, and cannot be changed to charge the Canon LP-E6.

Q: 10. What’s the difference between 2A & 1.2A?

A: The Watson Pro L-Train 6-Bay NP-F Battery Charger has two different amp settings for charging, 2A and 1.2A. At 2A a battery is charged in about half the time as at 1.2A.
